This cosy cottage is tucked down a quiet street within the historic walls of Conwy. Perfectly sized for two guests, there’s an open-plan living room with a wood-burning fire, a snug bedroom and a small courtyard (shared with the neighbours). From here, it’s a short walk to the castle, beaches and amenities. It’s also a great base for guests looking to adventure further afield and explore Snowdonia National Park.

Discover one of Carmarthenshire's best-kept secrets at this grade II-listed cottage set just a flip-flop from the beach in the village of Llansteffan. Well suited to a multi-generational family holiday (including your four-legged friend), there are bunk beds for little ones and an enclosed private garden for a runabout. If the weather doesn't buck up, the three sitting rooms allow everyone to spill out, and the wood-burning stove is a nice touch. Set on a peninsula between two estuaries for waterfront walks, the pace of life is slow here. However, the village inn and seafront cafe provide a little bustle.

A long, private drive leads to this romantic retreat in the rolling hills of the Llyn Peninsula. A restored cottage just for two, it's been modernised to a high standard with slate floors, all-white walls and a sociable, open-plan layout to the ground floor. A perfectly well-equipped kitchen and cosy sofa area include a small indoor dining table, and contemporary bi-folding doors open the space up to the patio outside, so it's easy to eat outdoors on fine days. Upstairs, the romantic bedroom has vaulted ceilings, skylights and a unique full-length arched window so you can stare across the fields even from bed. And we love the huge, super stylish bathroom, with its walk-in shower and freestanding tub below a skylight. Just a ten-minute drive from the pretty seaside village of Abersoch, it's the perfect base to explore this beautiful part of the world.

This barn conversion in deepest Herefordshire is bursting with rural authenticity. Not only is the property located close to a peaceful nature reserve complete with lakes, but it's also been Grade-II listed to protect its historical importance. The crashing waves are so close you can almost touch them from the living area – in fact, you can sit at the dining table and see the beach out the big windows.
