This sweet little apartment is packed full of charm. It’s part of a peaceful cluster of apartments in the pretty village of Karavomylos, just a few steps from the sea. You can fall asleep at night to the soothing sound of the sea on the shore, just beyond the balcony. 

After waking up with the sun on your pillow, take your coffee to the balcony to start your day slowly – you’re on island time now, after all. The sea views are the crowning glory of this pretty apartment, which is calm and quiet, ideal for a beach holiday for two. You might decide to stroll to a nearby taverna for breakfast before spending your morning by the communal pool. The beach is two minutes away on foot, so you can switch up your sunbathing locations in a flash. 

A five-minute stroll through town is all it takes to reach Melissani Cave, one of the most beautiful sights on the island. This enchanting cave hides a turquoise lake within, with forests surrounding it. Plan your visit for midday when the sun streams through from above, giving a magical glow and adding to the romance. 

Beautiful Assos is thirty-two minutes away by car, and well worth the trip. The town is known for its colourful houses, traditional architecture, and the ruins of a Venetian castle. The crown jewel of this village is Melissani Cave, a natural wonder just five minutes from the apartment. Boats take you into the cave, which has a hidden lake and forest inside – it makes for a romantic outing. 

The town of Assos is thirty-two minutes away, and it’s well worth the car journey. Wandering around the cobbled streets and admiring the colourful houses is a delightful way to spend a day, especially with an ice cream in hand.

Watch boats bobbing in the water while you eat your breakfast al fresco – the distant mountains make a beautiful backdrop. This is such a pretty part of Greece – we’d definitely be heading out on day trips to make the most of the location. 

Myrtos Beach, which featured in the film version of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, is twenty-five minutes away by car, with its dramatic stretch of white pebbles and beautifully blue water. Of course, there’s a beach just two minutes away from the apartment so you can paddle any time. 

The magical Melissani Cave is just five minutes away on foot, in Karavomylos. After taking a boat trip through the cave to discover the lake and forest within, meander through the village. Pop into a taverna for some meze and a cocktail or two – sit outside so you can watch the sunset over the sea. This place is perfect for romance.

Keeper of the Castle

This villa really benefits from its location situated on a headland overlooking the bay and you will too – the Ionian Sea views are wonderful from the terrace and private pool. You can admire the Venetian castle and pretty harbour as well, while shaded dining and seating areas give cover from the hot Kefalonian sun. When you feel like exploring, the harbour at Assos has a beach or from the villa, steps lead directly down to the sea where there is a small swimming platform. Other attractions include Myrtos Beach, around fifteen minutes by car, while Fiscardo is 20 kilometres from this home.

Grecian Sun

The view from this home in an elevated position just north of Skala is to die for. The glittering sea extends right across your field of vision from the enormous terrace, with a glass safety barrier so absolutely nothing interferes with your view. Out here, which is where we think you'll spend most of your time, you'll be able to relax on the sun loungers, sip drinks on the sofas and eat at the table under the stars. And just when you think this outside space couldn't get any better, there's a beautiful private pool too, with hydrotherapy and swim-against-the-stream settings.

Inside, it's a fully modernised villa that has maintained some of its character features – so expect a glossy new kitchen and fabulous new bathrooms, along with a pretty fireplace in the open-plan living space and vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms. There's a stunning private balcony off one of the bedrooms, perfect for getting some sea air first thing in the morning, and we just love the bunk beds in the third bedroom – perfect for kids. 

Just a five-minute drive from the nearby village – where you'll find traditional tavernas, shops and everything you could need – and a five-minute drive from the nearest beach, it's in a handy location too.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Kefalonia’s clear waters and sloping mountains, we can’t get enough of this villa’s breathtaking views. You’ll have plenty of outdoor space from which to enjoy them too, thanks to a private pool, alfresco dining terrace and hanging egg chair. While there is a mini-market and a restaurant close by, a car is recommended if you’re keen to explore the neighbourng resort of Lourdas, where you’ll find long sandy beaches and lively tavernas. Home chefs will no doubt appreciate the outdoor grill and contemporary kitchen.

You could never tire of the panoramic views of the Ionian Sea from this villa fringing the laid-back village of Spartia. The contemporary interiors will appeal to all you minimalists, and the private sauna, steam room and gym are a bonus. There's also a playroom and table tennis to keep kids busy. While the infinity-edged pool is impressive, it's worth noting there is open-barred poolside fencing surrounding it, so you'll need to keep a watchful eye on little ones. Location-wise, you're just a few minutes' drive from Spartia's sandy cove beach (2.2km), minimarket, bakery and local tavernas. Or, for a change of scene, the golden sands of Avithos and Agios Thomas are just a fifteen-minute drive.
