With the beach just 250 metres away, this beautiful home makes use of natural elements and a boho touch to instil a sense of tranquillity that’s only helped along by the breathtaking sea views from the terrace. 

Embrace a slower pace by staying in bed long after you’ve woken up just so you can read another chapter. Eventually, drag yourself out towards the kitchenette where you can grab a coffee to enjoy out on the terrace. Savour the sounds and smells of the ocean as you watch the horizon from the hanging egg chair, or fill out a crossword puzzle at the outdoor dining table. In a beautiful stone building that dates back to 1880, it’s been restored to maintain its stunning traditional features, yet modernised to embrace the unique use of space. The open-plan dining and living space is ideal for a sociable evening enjoying a few drinks and dinner with friends. The velour corner sofa with a view extending across to the coastline is just an additional luxurious touch. Open your doors and you’re met with a second seating area, should you prefer to dine alfresco. Our favourite spot, however, is the private infinity pool where the crystal blue sea can be seen in the distance. 

Situated in the centre of Maroulas village, you’re surrounded by rich history and high above Rethymno – springs, several valleys and picturesque greenery are the natural beauty spots which beautifully complement the local taverns, cafes and mini-markets. After a day of exploring, retire for a relaxed evening at home. The bedrooms are classically calm, dressed in serene white and natural textures. In the morning, pour yourself a coffee and grab a bite to eat and head to your private balcony, where you can watch the sunrise over the horizon – another reminder you’re in holiday heaven.

Where do we start with this villa just outside Agios Pavlos? There's so much to love. Firstly it's under 250 metres from the beach – that caught our eye straight away. And then there are those immaculate views over the shimmering sea that are enough to make anyone swoon with holiday envy. The vistas over the water are absolutely stunning from sunrise to sunset, best enjoyed over long alfresco meze lunches before cooling off in the private pool or simply relaxing on the daybeds as you work on your tan.

You'll be pleased to know, too, that this home was built in harmony with the natural environment and follows the principles of bioclimatic design, so it almost has zero energy consumption. Inside, the decor is stylish and sleek with its concrete finishes and intricately carved wood panels. The hewn stone sink in the main bedroom's en-suite is a real feature too. 

With direct access to the beach, you can go for a swim in the sea, or it's 3 kilometres to the nearest taverna, café, bar and mini-market (all open from April to October).

From the near-constant cloudless sky to the crystalline Aegean Sea and the shimmering private swimming pool – this place is an ode to the colour blue. Three kilometres away, you’ll find the calm shallows of the nearest sandy beach and the charming town of Chania is a short drive along the coast. Right on your doorstep (within 200 metres), you’ve got cafés, bakeries, tavernas and a mini market to stock up on supplies.

If you’re not cooling off from the Crete sun in the swimming pool, our favourite spot is the table and chairs on the covered veranda, facing a panorama of Crete’s stunning coastline. This is a great spot to dine of an evening. Inside, the home is split between two apartments, each with its own kitchen and living room. On the first floor, the living room is a grand space with marble floor, candelabra and velvety tufted sofas. Two full kitchens across the whole home mean it’s easy to cater for huge group meals and two living rooms give everyone enough space to spread out. The peace and quiet are blissful in bedrooms and each room has its own access to the terrace or a first-floor balcony.

Surrounded by olive groves and fruit orchards, this 160-year-old estate opens its doors to the beauty of western Crete. Outside, days can be spent lounging by the private pool or admiring the views from the terrace. It’s also just a short stroll to the nearest pebble beach, while adventures further along the coast will bring you to Maleme and Platanias (just 4 kilometres away). Guests can also enjoy a range of extra services here – including private chefs and massage treatments.

The sweeping coastal views from this newly-built villa may be heaven-sent, but it’s the lengthy pool and stylish sun terraces which are getting us hot under the collar. An excellent choice for two couples sharing, each bedroom has direct access to the wraparound panoramic balcony and an en-suite shower room to kickstart your day. Location-wise, the centre of Elounda and its wide sandy beach and seafront restaurants are just a two-kilometre stroll downhill –⁠ and you can always hop in a taxi on your way back home later.

Looking out over the Bay of Falasarna, this cute stone villa has everything you could want from a holiday on the coast. First, there are sea view at every turn. Then there’s the sun-dappled patio where you can set up for a long lazy lunch or slip into the swimming pool to cool off. While away the days on a sun lounger and fire up the gas grill for an evening meal as the sun sets over the mountains behind you.

Inside, the quaint living room is set around an old-style fireplace and exposed stone is on display. The kitchen is a country-chic spot with plenty of room to dine if you’re not eating alfresco. Heading up to bed, you’ve got sea views from the master bedroom’s windows, set in beautiful exposed stonework. The real highlight? A dedicated therapy room should you want to indulge in an at-home massage (available as an extra) or beauty therapy with your own sauna.

Located just 800 metres from the Cretan coast, you’re within easy reach of an array of sandy beaches and hidden coves, and only a short stroll from the village of Kokkino Chorio.

It's also fair to say that this corner of Crete isn't short of sandy beaches, either.

Sitting just 200 metres from the beach and from a plethora of waterfront restaurants, this villa offers stunning scenery and plenty of seaside fun along the Cretan coast. A private pool and an alfresco dining set provide ample opportunity for outdoor leisure, and the home’s single-level layout is ideal for multi-generational families. While the functional decor isn’t the most inspiring, the villa’s mountainous backdrop more than makes up for it. And with Kissamosjust 6 kilometres away and Chania city a thirty-minute drive, there’s plenty to enjoy in the way of sightseeing and exploring nearby.

Perched on the west coast of Crete with spectacular views of the Meditteranean Sea, this villa feels like a private corner of paradise reserved just for you.

The swimming pool surrounded by rocks has been expertly built into the landscape so that it looks as if it's part of the ocean beyond. Stretching around the house itself is a pergola that offers a shady respite from the sunshine, as well as spots for lounging, barbecuing and dining alfresco. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a Jacuzzi on the rooftop which offers a lovely panorama as you sink into the bubbles.

With an exterior this incredible, some architects might be tempted to phone it in when it comes to designing the interior, but credit must go to the brains behind this project as the inside living space is a thing of beauty, too.
