Such is the beautiful landscape in abundance and the hilly terrain from which to appreciate it, it seems a waste to go to the Greek islands and not stay somewhere with a decent view. This villa on the highest point of Santorini's capital is, therefore, an excellent choice. From the terrace, guests are treated to a panoramic vista of the Aegean Sea and the Tholos Naftilos volcano sat in the middle.

As you would hope, there are plenty of places where you can sit and gawp at this pretty scene, including alfresco dining tables, lounges and a hot tub with an uninterrupted view of the caldera. 

Although your attention might naturally be drawn elsewhere, the home itself is a treat for the eyes, too. Although it has recently been reconstructed, it has been built in the neoclassical style popular with affluent residents that made the island their residence in the nineteenth century. As a result, you'll see domed ceilings, arched doorways and thick walls, as well as an eclectic collection of artwork and decorative items.

The prime location in the middle of Fira means that there are plenty of restaurants and cultural distractions within walking distance, including the Megaro Gizi Museum. The town's old harbour isn't too far away either.

When we think of Fira in Santorini – we imagine views of the inky blue caldera, and this studio apartment doesn't disappoint. You can enjoy them from the private terrace and heated hot tub. Another highlight here is the Greek breakfast with locally sourced ingredients which can be savoured in the room, terrace or the host's secluded courtyard (handy as there isn't a kitchen here). Inside, the suite is decorated in a simple, traditional style, reflecting the island. The location is fabulous too – it's 100 metres from the Megaro Gyzi Museum and 150 metres from the cable car which takes you to the old port. The centre of Fira and the Archaeological Museum of Fira are both just 200 metres away too.

From the moment we saw the views from this villa in the village of Firostefani, we were sold. Endless stretches of blue radiate from all sides, best enjoyed from the terrace and hot tub. There’s an alfresco dining spot too that’s just waiting to be used for Greek treats in the sun, and when the rays get too strong, you can retreat inside amid the villa’s cool whitewashed walls. There are a few signs of wear and tear in the decor and the kitchen is on the small side. But with Fira just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample the local fare. And when you’re ready for a dip in the sea, pebbly Gialos Beach is 3.5 kilometres from your door.

It's chic and comfortable while retaining that quintessentially Santorini charm.

Dining can be an indoor or outdoor experience, with glass sliding doors opening the space up to the terrace, and a fireplace keeps this spot warm in the cooler months. Breakfast is included. This is a stunning home that is perfect for a romantic getaway. The suite is located in the picturesque island of Santorini, Greece, and boasts breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the famous Santorini sunrise. The suite features two cozy bedrooms with a comfortable king-sized beds and a spacious living room with a sofa and a flat-screen Tv. The suite is also equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and a minibar.

Christos Honeymoon Suite

Situated underneath the Venetian-era Pyrgos Castle in Santorini, it's hard to imagine this beautiful setting being the site of a factory, but rather remarkably, this home has an industrial history. In a former life, the building was used solely for the production of wine and tsipouro.

It has since been refurbished to become a set of four self-contained homes that can be booked out all at once. There are still signs of its history, from the cave-like rooms and the massive piece of machinery that sits in the middle of one of the living rooms. 

However, there are plenty of luxurious touches that have since been added, like the swimming pool and Jacuzzi that sit in the middle of the outdoor space, as well as the dreamy rooftop terrace that looks out over the Aegean Sea and neighbouring islands.

The historic village of Pyrgos has medieval streets and alleys to peek around, as well as a handful of restaurants and the aforementioned castle. There's also an abundance of wineries in the local area if you feel inspired by the villa, as well as Kamari Beach, which can easily be reached with a car.

The Grape-Stomper

This stunning villa boasts breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and several nearby islands, including Naxos. Space is limited here and you won’t have a kitchen, but with views like this, we think this home still holds its own. You’ll likely spend your days soaking up the sun on the veranda or unwinding on the pool’s Jacuzzi bench. Pop open a bottle of Champagne and lounge on floor cushions to watch the sunset before heading out to dine at a nearby restaurant. Bliss.

With two alfresco dining areas, several day beds, poolside sun loungers, a chill-out space, and a sprawling pool terrace, this gorgeous villa is perfectly set up for large gatherings with your extended family, or a big friendly get-together. 

Start by sipping a fresh Greek coffee in the comfort of the outdoor sofas, while admiring the shimmering sea in the distance. Swim a couple of leisurely laps of the pool or bubble away in the jacuzzi, before picking out a lounger to dry off on. When lunchtime calls, grill locally sourced meats on the barbecue and serve up an alfresco delight on the dreamy terrace. Achingly beautiful, we particularly love the traditional blue-white exterior and natural stone walls that stay true to the typical Cycladic buildings around the island. 

Speaking of, head out and explore the neighbouring town of Thera, where you'll find plenty of blue-domed churches, whitewashed villas, fine-dining restaurants and buzzing bars, only 3km from your villa. Alternatively, pack your seaside essentials and walk 450m down to the nearest sandy beach at Vourvoulos for relaxing days along the coast.

Located just outside the picturesque village of Oia, this two-bedroom villa with panoramic views of Santorini’s caldera offers guests a mix of the luxurious and rustic throughout their stay. From inside, guests will find the modern, yet cosy design frames numerous views of the surrounding vineyards and Aegean Sea, with the bedroom suites also providing access to the downstairs terrace or upstairs balcony. While there is no kitchen, there is a mini-fridge and counter space for preparing cold meals, drinks, and snacks, which can be enjoyed outside by the private plunge pool. There are also local restaurants nearby, and Oia is just a fifteen-minute walk away.

This bright and minimal apartment would make an excellent base to explore the authentic area of Mesaria. Although it’s not the largest or most impressive of our Santorini homes, this apartment has a fresh and modern feel and would suit a couple perfectly for a long weekend getaway. The white-washed private terrace is the ideal spot to tuck into a Greek Salad, while the outdoor heated Jacuzzi is perfect for relaxing and watching the sun go down.

With views of the Aegean Sea and Anafi Island, this family-friendly home retains character from its past as two old pottery kilns. Spanning a main villa and a separate guesthouse, groups will find ample space to split off after a busy day, with different living areas and kitchens. While the pool and jacuzzi are obvious highlights, we love how the extra services – including daily breakfasts and free airport transfers – make your holiday stress-free. Within walking distance, stumble across restaurants, wineries, and Pyrgos Kallistis Castle.

There's a long list of things we love about this villa in the middle of Santorini, but perhaps the most unique feature is the miniature church on the grounds — St Catherine's — that allows you to get married and host a reception with up to two hundred guests afterwards.

When it comes to settings for a party, there can't be many that are better than this. Starting with the exterior, there's a large freshwater swimming pool surrounded by loungers and covered terraces, which all enjoy a gorgeous view of a Cycladic hillside. Moving around the side of the address, guests also get the run of a massive lawn with children's play equipment on it.

Inside, the home has been appointed in traditional Santorinian style, with cooling white walls, wooden ceiling beams and bare floorboards. Oddly enough, the only rooms that veer away from this script are the bathrooms, which all have been treated to a quirky range of tiling.

However, with bedrooms on the first and basement levels, plus a separate suite, it can be split into three entirely self-contained units, making it an ideal candidate for multigenerational families or groups of friends who want to retain some privacy.

From the tiered terrace, where you'll find ample seating and the private pool,  picture-perfect views of the rolling landscape and deep-blue Aegean Sea unfold, thanks to the house's hillside position. From here, you can reach the tavernas of picturesque Pyrgos in moments. The beach lies a little further away, but with a car rental at your disposal, it'll take minutes to get there. Throw in daily breakfast, housekeeping, and a guesthouse where four guests can seek a little more privacy, and it's a pretty sweet deal.

If you're looking for a unique stay in Santorini, away from the hustle and bustle of tourist spots, look no further than this sumptuous pad on the island's peaceful northeast coast. Designed in the style of a traditional Santorini windmill, the elegant timber ores of this three-storey home look proudly out to the Aegean Sea.
