Such is the beautiful landscape in abundance and the hilly terrain from which to appreciate it, it seems a waste to go to the Greek islands and not stay somewhere with a decent view. As you would hope, there are plenty of places where you can sit and gawp at this pretty scene, including alfresco dining tables, lounges and a hot tub with an uninterrupted view of the caldera. 

Although your attention might naturally be drawn elsewhere, the home itself is a treat for the eyes, too. Although it has recently been reconstructed, it has been built in the neoclassical style popular with affluent residents that made the island their residence in the nineteenth century. As a result, you'll see domed ceilings, arched doorways and thick walls, as well as an eclectic collection of artwork and decorative items.

The prime location in the middle of Fira means that there are plenty of restaurants and cultural distractions within walking distance, including the Megaro Gizi Museum. The town's old harbour isn't too far away either.

From the moment we saw the views from this villa in the village of Firostefani, we were sold. Endless stretches of blue radiate from all sides, best enjoyed from the terrace and hot tub. There’s an alfresco dining spot too that’s just waiting to be used for Greek treats in the sun, and when the rays get too strong, you can retreat inside amid the villa’s cool whitewashed walls. There are a few signs of wear and tear in the decor and the kitchen is on the small side. But with Fira just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample the local fare. And when you’re ready for a dip in the sea, pebbly Gialos Beach is 3.5 kilometres from your door.

Situated underneath the Venetian-era Pyrgos Castle in Santorini, it's hard to imagine this beautiful setting being the site of a factory, but rather remarkably, this home has an industrial history. In a former life, the building was used solely for the production of wine and tsipouro.

It has since been refurbished to become a set of four self-contained homes that can be booked out all at once. There are still signs of its history, from the cave-like rooms and the massive piece of machinery that sits in the middle of one of the living rooms. 

However, there are plenty of luxurious touches that have since been added, like the swimming pool and Jacuzzi that sit in the middle of the outdoor space, as well as the dreamy rooftop terrace that looks out over the Aegean Sea and neighbouring islands.

The historic village of Pyrgos has medieval streets and alleys to peek around, as well as a handful of restaurants and the aforementioned castle. There's also an abundance of wineries in the local area if you feel inspired by the villa, as well as Kamari Beach, which can easily be reached with a car.

This fabulous home sits high in the hills of Fira boasting breathtaking views of this volcanic island. Compromised of a main house and a guest house, a group of friends or a family will be well looked after here. We would, however, recommend having a car in order to explore the island's impressive scenery and to make it easier to get to and from the many beaches – from red coves to volcanic sands, this is a holiday to remember.

Located just outside the picturesque village of Oia, this two-bedroom villa with panoramic views of Santorini’s caldera offers guests a mix of the luxurious and rustic throughout their stay. From inside, guests will find the modern, yet cosy design frames numerous views of the surrounding vineyards and Aegean Sea, with the bedroom suites also providing access to the downstairs terrace or upstairs balcony. While there is no kitchen, there is a mini-fridge and counter space for preparing cold meals, drinks, and snacks, which can be enjoyed outside by the private plunge pool.
