Appearing like a wedding cake out of the verdant hills of Astypalaia, this palatial whitewashed structure has been converted into three design-led villas, and here is one of them. The interiors are enviably chic: smooth concrete floors, exposed stonework walls, and a grey-blue colour palette create the architectural ambiance, while statement lampshades, an indoor bamboo plant in the high-spec kitchen, and artful wall hangings provide idiosyncratic charm. Between Kolympia and Faliraki, you will find Afandou, where The property occupies a breath-taking location; complete with private pool, terrace and landscaped gardens.

The outdoor spaces at this villa are inviting and invigorating, with the fresh sea breeze and near-constant sunshine likely to prove irresistible. There is a covered area with dining table, chairs and barbecue, as well as a comfortable seating area, while sun loungers and armchairs line up poolside. The 9m x 4m pool is a pleasure at any time and looks particularly beautiful when lit at night.

Life on the farm doesn't get much better than this. Set on the outskirts of Salakos village, in the lush foothills of Mount Prophitis Ilias, it's a high-end villa surrounded by rich agricultural land. Olive groves, walnut trees and nearby glasshouses producing fruit and vegetables make this a slice of rural heaven, and every morning you'll be brought fresh produce, olive oil, eggs and bread from the farm.

Away from it all but just a fifty-minute drive from Rhodes Town, here you'll be able to experience a slower pace of life. Bask on your enormous deck, find a shady spot beneath the palms in your private garden or swim and play all day in your pool. An elegant and charming home, it's been built in the traditional style with plenty of character – think vaulted ceilings, bare stone walls and plenty of natural wood. Our pick of the rooms has to be the main living room here. With its open layout and fabulous high ceilings, there's something quite Hollywood about it. We love the leather sofas, the sleek, black kitchen and the green-framed window walls. But there's much more to explore, with a second living space and three beautiful bedrooms. There's even a home gym if you're feeling like some exercise.

In the evenings, light the barbecue and eat outside under the stars, or head into the village (where you'll find a couple of small eateries) or to the coast at Kamiros Beach for dinner in a seaside taverna. And there's plenty to explore locally too – don't miss a visit to the butterfly valley, the seven springs and a chance to go wine tasting.

And not only is Ayhan, the lovely owner, a qualified guide offering private tours around the Bozburun Peninsula, but he has a few treats in store – fresh eggs, horseback rides, maid service and meal delivery can all be arranged on request.

We can easily spend all our days here by the pool, swimming in the crystal-clear waters and catching ray's on the comfortable sun loungers. Come dinnertime, whip up something in the glossy kitchen and gather around the table outside, sharing a meal and a bottle of wine underneath the stars.

When you fancy a day out and about, hop in the car and drive ten minutes to Rhodes' city centre. Steeped in history, the ancient streets are perfect for a wander, while local tavernas and cocktail bars are the ideal spots to take a breather and rest your feet. For the beach, Paralia Faliraki is just an eight-minute drive away, but there are many more coves hidden up and down the coast.
