Experience the Greek island of Lefkada from this villa with panoramic views over the Ionian. Though the decor is a little dated in places, the postcard-perfect views from the en-suite bedrooms are a highlight, as is the outside with its terrace, pool and sun loungers. There’s even a separate children’s pool making it great for family holidays. Outside of the home, hike the nearby trails and take advantage of the mountainous location. Nidri village is a five-minute drive, while the Dimosari Waterfalls (1.8 kilometres) and Nidri Beach (1.3 kilometres) are beauty spots not to be missed.

Overlooking an assembly of islands in the Ionian Sea, this breezy villa has several balconies and a private pool boasting panoramic views across Nydri. Spanning three stories, it won't be suitable for those with limited mobility, and the interiors are minimalistic and dated in some places. That said, it's relatively roomy and the sun-kissed outdoor spaces are perfect for socialising – the veranda makes a great spot for family barbecues. As it's located high in the mountains, you'll definitely need a car – although the beach and centre of Nydri are just over 1 kilometre away, where you can hop on a boat to visit the surrounding islands.

Built into a Lefkada hillside – in a rather harmonious fashion we might add – this sensational villa is blessed with the sort of incredible views at which you'll never tire of gawping. From the address, there's an uninterrupted panorama of the Ionian Sea, Nydri Gulf and the neighbouring island of Skorpios.

As you would hope, there are plenty of spots from which you can admire this wonderful landscape. If the weather's on the warmer side, you can take in the surroundings from the pair of swimming pools or out on one of the myriad terraces and balconies. When the sun's gone down, you can choose instead to sink back into the Jacuzzi or retire next to the fire pit for a little bit of added cosiness.

Although you'll want to spend as much time out in the open air as possible here, you won't be disappointed when you finally have to head inside. There are two wings to the property, plus a self-contained studio apartment, which means that there's an abundance of private space, even for larger groups. The design throughout is gloriously contemporary, with sleek surfaces, a minimalist approach to adornment and oodles of natural light from the large windows. If you ever have a hankering for the more rustic side of Greek accommodation, the pair of wood-burning fireplaces might just scratch that itch.

In the local village, there are a couple of restaurants to keep you satiated, but there's a much wider choice in the tourist town of Nydri, about twenty minutes' drive away. In the same direction, Dessimi Beach takes just over a quarter of an hour to reach in the car.

From this vantage point, views of the Ionian are a given – and if you're anything like us, you'll be keen to spend all day and all night making the most of the scenery. How could you not, with Vlycho Bay and the islands of Scorpios, Meganisi and Atokos glistening on the horizon?

Enjoy relaxing afternoons poolside, flitting between dips in the pool, cocktails on the lounge chairs, and naps in the hammock. Come suppertime, fire up the built-in barbecue and dine alfresco on classic Grecian fare, the setting sun and sparkling sea creating the perfect backdrop.

Five minutes away by car is the charming port town of Nydri, one of the busiest on the island's east coast. Here, you can hop on a boat tour, walk to the Nydri Waterfalls or sample the local cuisine at the beachfront bars and restaurants. Nydri Beach is 4 kilometres away, but for even more postcard-worthy beaches, head west to Pefkoulia or Egremni Beach – both reachable in an hour's drive.

Inside, this stone-built villa is just as beautiful as the outside with its clean lines, vaulted beamed ceilings, wood, marble and granite finishes. We adore the stylish touches like the hammered copper basin in the bathroom.

If you want to swap the pool for the ocean and soft, golden sands, then head to Pefkoulia Beach, a five-minute drive. Or, if you're feeling more energetic, go windsurfing and kitesurfing in Vassiliki. Tsoukalades, 700 metres away, has a smattering of restaurants and shops, while the charming and colourful capital of Lefkada is ten minutes by car.

It’s not just its octagonal shape that gives this home an edge. Though the gated entrance and car park are shared with two neighbouring homes, privacy is guaranteed at the pool terrace and leafy barbecue area. While the mezzanine-level third bedroom isn't suitable for little ones, its sea-facing balcony makes it a winner for older kids who crave space.

Just outside the main town, this villa on Lefkas puts castle ruins, long sandy beaches and streets filled with tavernas and family-run restaurants all within striking distance. It’s a ten-minute walk to the sandy beach at Agios Ioannis, where ancient windmills stand tall against the blue sky. The sea is so blue here, it’s easy to see why Lefkas is known as the Caribbean of Greece. Fifteen minutes’ walk in the other direction sees you in the atmospheric streets of Lefkas’ main town. 

This villa is set in perfectly manicured gardens where the scent of lavender floats on the sea breeze. Plush outdoor lounges are tucked into the side of the house and shaded by wooden pergolas. At the heart of it all, the shimmering swimming pool invites you for a dip on hot days. Come lunchtime, a summer kitchen can provide the alfresco feast at the long dining table outside.

Heading inside, the living area is open-plan and social with a wall of glass sliding back to blend the terrace into the mix. Everything in here feels light-wood and Scandi-chic, from dining table to kitchen counters. While it’s not exactly within walking distance of any beaches, the panoramic vistas more than compensate for it. Speaking of, did we mention the two double bedrooms benefit from spectacular views? With its private infinity pool with Jacuzzi, outdoor kitchenette and alfresco dining table, this home has everything you need for an enjoyable holiday. It’s only 3km from the beach and situated in Lefkada town, where you can explore bustling shops, charming restaurants and vibrant nightlife.  

To the Water's Edge

You'll find this villa only twenty minutes from Lefkada Town and seven from Pefkoulia Beach. It's a great location, close to the action but still tucked away for guests who want a bit more peace and quiet. The Ionian Sea views are pretty hard to be, too. Our favourite spot to admire them is the balcony, but the private pool also offers a glimpse of the scenery. The interior is contemporary, with stone walls and beamed ceilings to give it a bit of character. Upstairs, the snug mezzanine-level twin room is ideal for older children, but as the only two full bathrooms here are en-suites, guests in this bedroom will have to share.

A breathtaking stay awaits you at this divine villa. It sits in a peaceful and picturesque spot, nestled away on a hillside just a short drive from Lefkada's capital city. Built with Byzantine design elements in mind, this majestic home is easy to mistake for an ancient monastery – albeit, more suited to sun-worshippers than monks.

The elevated position means this home benefits from ocean views in one direction and mountain vistas in the other, and it certainly isn't short on places to sit back, relax and soak in these stunning surroundings. We especially love the outdoor pool, complete with in-pool loungers for ultimate relaxation – and the flower-filled courtyard is the perfect place for your morning coffee.

Perched on a hillside overlooking the glistening waters of the Ionian and a fifteen-minute walk outside the village of Agios Nikita, this beautiful villa offers you a chance to relax and unwind on the gorgeous Greek island of Lefkada.

Step inside, and you'll find three bedrooms on the ground floor, each with an elegant curved bed that's built into the very fabric of the building, plus a mix of luxurious materials and some more rustic touches that combine to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Less well-known than neighbouring islands Corfu and Kefalonia, Lefkada packs a punch when it comes to its beaches. Although family-friendly, it’s worth noting that this home’s ladder-effect balconies and low stone walls mean young children should be kept an eye on.

Standing over the glittering Ionian Sea, this impressive villa offers plenty of outdoor space. The garden has an array of patios and relaxing spots from which to admire views of the Lefkada countryside, our favourite being the emerald infinity pool. All three bedrooms have their own balcony too, where you can enjoy some time to yourself. It was the jetty just below the villa that caught our eye, however, which offers a sunbathing area right next to the ocean. It’s only shared with two other villas, so you don’t have to worry about overcrowding. The traditional harbour of Sivota is just a 45-minute walk away, where you can enjoy a meal on the waterfront.

Finding a hillside hideaway for two this picturesque and boasting a private infinity pool is a rare thing. The seascape views are a knockout by day, and wait until you clap your eyes on the sunsets.
