When winding up the path to this home, you'll be struck by its traditional beauty. Reminiscent of ancient Greece, the original lime kiln was built by the owner's family over two hundred years ago. Given the rustic look of this stunning villa, you wouldn't expect to see Smeg appliances, Smart TVs, and Simmons mattresses. The blend of the old meets the new is perfectly done. It's chic and comfortable while retaining that quintessentially Santorini charm.

Swing in the hammock, glide through the infinity pool, and lounge as you watch the sun dance on the Aegean Sea. The sea becomes increasingly tempting, you'll probably want to make your way to the lovely Monolithos Beach, a thirteen-minute drive away. From the moment we saw the views from this villa in the village of Firostefani, we were sold. Endless stretches of blue radiate from all sides, best enjoyed from the terrace and hot tub. There’s an alfresco dining spot too that’s just waiting to be used for Greek treats in the sun, and when the rays get too strong, you can retreat inside amid the villa’s cool whitewashed walls. There are a few signs of wear and tear in the decor and the kitchen is on the small side. But with Fira just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample the local fare. And when you’re ready for a dip in the sea, pebbly Gialos Beach is 3.5 kilometres from your door.

When we think of Fira in Santorini – we imagine views of the inky blue caldera, and this studio apartment doesn't disappoint. You can enjoy them from the private terrace and heated hot tub. Such is the beautiful landscape in abundance and the hilly terrain from which to appreciate it, it seems a waste to go to the Greek islands and not stay somewhere with a decent view. This villa on the highest point of Santorini's capital is, therefore, an excellent choice. From the terrace, guests are treated to a panoramic vista of the Aegean Sea and the Tholos Naftilos volcano sat in the middle.

As you would hope, there are plenty of places where you can sit and gawp at this pretty scene, including alfresco dining tables, lounges and a hot tub with an uninterrupted view of the caldera. 

Although your attention might naturally be drawn elsewhere, the home itself is a treat for the eyes, too. Although it has recently been reconstructed, it has been built in the neoclassical style popular with affluent residents that made the island their residence in the nineteenth century. As a result, you'll see domed ceilings, arched doorways and thick walls, as well as an eclectic collection of artwork and decorative items.

The prime location in the middle of Fira means that there are plenty of restaurants and cultural distractions within walking distance, including the Megaro Gizi Museum. The town's old harbour isn't too far away either.

Situated underneath the Venetian-era Pyrgos Castle in Santorini, it's hard to imagine this beautiful setting being the site of a factory, but rather remarkably, this home has an industrial history. In a former life, the building was used solely for the production of wine and tsipouro.

It has since been refurbished to become a set of four self-contained homes that can be booked out all at once. There are still signs of its history, from the cave-like rooms and the massive piece of machinery that sits in the middle of one of the living rooms.

This bright and minimal apartment would make an excellent base to explore the authentic area of Mesaria. Although it’s not the largest or most impressive of our Santorini homes, this apartment has a fresh and modern feel and would suit a couple perfectly for a long weekend getaway. There's a long list of things we love about this villa in the middle of Santorini, but perhaps the most unique feature is the miniature church on the grounds — St Catherine's — that allows you to get married and host a reception with up to two hundred guests afterwards.

When it comes to settings for a party, there can't be many that are better than this. Starting with the exterior, there's a large freshwater swimming pool surrounded by loungers and covered terraces, which all enjoy a gorgeous view of a Cycladic hillside. Moving around the side of the address, guests also get the run of a massive lawn with children's play equipment on it.

Inside, the home has been appointed in traditional Santorinian style, with cooling white walls, wooden ceiling beams and bare floorboards. Oddly enough, the only rooms that veer away from this script are the bathrooms, which all have been treated to a quirky range of tiling.

Located just outside the picturesque village of Oia, this two-bedroom villa with panoramic views of Santorini’s caldera offers guests a mix of the luxurious and rustic throughout their stay. From inside, guests will find the modern, yet cosy design frames numerous views of the surrounding vineyards and Aegean Sea, with the bedroom suites also providing access to the downstairs terrace or upstairs balcony. While there is no kitchen, there is a mini-fridge and counter space for preparing cold meals, drinks, and snacks, which can be enjoyed outside by the private plunge pool. From here, you can reach the tavernas of picturesque Pyrgos in moments. The beach lies a little further away, but with a car rental at your disposal, it'll take minutes to get there. Throw in daily breakfast, housekeeping, and a guesthouse where four guests can seek a little more privacy, and it's a pretty sweet deal.

This fabulous home sits high in the hills of Fira boasting breathtaking views of this volcanic island. Compromised of a main house and a guest house, a group of friends or a family will be well looked after here. We would, however, recommend having a car in order to explore the island's impressive scenery and to make it easier to get to and from the many beaches – from red coves to volcanic sands, this is a holiday to remember.

Located in the heart of the Santorini countryside, this stylish villa offers a new side to the famed Greek isle.

Pyrgos village, a real haven of traditional architecture and unspoiled beauty, is just a seven-minute ride, while beaches like Kamari and Perivolos are five and fifteen minutes away. For vibrant nightlife, Fira is less than a ten-minute drive.
