Nestled in a valley of vineyards and olive groves, this tranquil country house estate, just a ten-minute drive away from Tsilivi Beach, offers an authentic taste of Zakynthos. It is set in the historic village of Agios Kyrykos, which boasts strong ties to some of the island's best wineries. The estate itself also has an impressive wine heritage, having harvested one of the most popular grape varieties within the region for the best part of two centuries. We recommend popping by the village for a bottle of the good stuff, best enjoyed perched by the pool at sunset, glass in hand, gazing out to the fruit trees kissing the horizon.

This villa is a really special home. It can be found in Machairado village – an almost untouched part of Zakynthos at the heart of the island. The home is on a vast plot of land, tucked away amid acres of lush greenery so if peace and quiet are what you’re craving, you’re in luck. 

You could easily spend your whole stay on the property, with your every need catered for. Hire a private chef and enjoy your meals at any one of the many dining areas in the grounds – we’re particularly fond of the tables on the covered terrace, where you can shelter from the midday sun and still enjoy the views all the way to the mountains. A huge brick barbecue sits alongside its own bar area to the side of the pool, the perfect setting for celebrations. 

The heart-shaped pool takes pride of place at the centre of the outside space. The hydro-massage jets mean it’s a hub of relaxation. After a morning spent floating and feeling your worries melt away, head to the tennis court. There’s also table tennis, a basketball hoop and billiards, so nobody is likely to feel bored. 

If you do feel the urge to explore beyond the gates, you can be in Zakynthos town in just fifteen minutes. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars and activity, and you can be back in time to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun sets.

The outside space is centred around the seasonally-heated pool, with comfortable loungers around it and plenty of room for gathering together with pre-dinner cocktails – the fire pit is perfect. There’s an open-air spa for relaxing, and children can tire themselves out in their own play area. You’ll need a car to get around, but the beaches are only a short drive away. 

Thalia's Cottage

When holidaying on one of the Greek islands, it's tempting to find a home as close as possible to the sea, but there's a lot to be said for settling on somewhere in the mountainous interior instead. When you experience the peace and tranquillity that surrounds this villa in the heart of Zakynthos, you'll see what we mean.

Surrounded by woodland and verdant hillsides, you'll find it easy to completely switch off and relax at this address, with long days in the sunshine sure to be packed with paddling in the pool, sunbathing on the loungers and whipping up dinner on the barbecue. The balconies are a prime spot for catching the sunset, too.

The home itself is generously sized with heaps of natural light coming in through the windows. We have to concede that it's not the most modern when it comes to interior design, with some parts looking a little dated. However, aesthetics aside, there are a few amenities that will help you feel at home, including the corner bathtub and fireplace in the living room.

Although you could enjoy a relaxing stay without leaving the address, there are some attractions to explore not too far away. The nearest village, for instance, is Vougiato only a kilometre away, while Laganas Beach is 9k away. The island's main town is a similar distance, too.







In a Perfect World

For those who appreciate traditional charm, and who want to stay in a more authentic village setting, this comfortable home is spacious, stone-clad and ever-so private. Surrounded by olive groves and farmland, it's tucked away in the village of Vanato and feels far from the busy resorts – yet it's just 3km from Zakynthos Town and the long sandy beaches of Tsilivi. 

All arranged on the ground floor, this place is full of character – we love the fireplace, the vaulted timber ceilings and the numerous patio doors that allow most of the rooms to open out to the garden. There's a modern, fully kitted-out kitchen, a built-in barbecue outside and tables both indoors and out. And the master bedroom is a real treat, with its vast space easily fitting not one but two king-size beds pushed together for the ultimate luxury. Step outside and your flat lawns are perfect for kids to play on, with a private pool, sun loungers and plenty of privacy thanks to walls and screen hedges.

Having first opened its doors to guests in July 2020, this home has since grown exponentially in popularity due to its spectacularly sought-after location on the island of Zakynthos, home to breathtaking views, sugar-fine, sandy beaches, and crystalline, turquoise water. Spend your days in complete relaxation, lounging by the pool with a refreshing glass of Retsina in hand and some delicious skewers on the barbecue. Apollo's Rest

Perched on top of a cliff at the northern tip of Zakynthos, this villa has the sort of view that has the power to bring about a reverent silence as you try to take it all in — from here, you can see Kefalonia,  the Peloponesse shoreline and a vast expanse of sparkling Ionian Sea.

Thankfully, this home makes it pleasingly easy to admire this landscape. Slipping into the infinity pool with a built-in hydromassage area is one way of doing just that, but the surroundings are no less awe-inspiring from the home's terrace or alfresco dining area.

The home itself has been built in the traditional Zakythinian style, with stone walls, wooden ceiling beams and a fireplace in the living room. The galley kitchen has enough space to whip up a Mediterranean banquet, too.

One of the major perks that we should probably mention is that there's direct access to the sea via a stone path and you can borrow kayaks or snorkelling and fishing equipment, as well as binoculars, a telescope and gym equipment. The island's famous Blue Caves can be reached in ten minutes on foot, too.

Keri Beach can also be reached in a five-minute walk and is fantastic for long, lazy beach days. We highly recommend visiting Zakynthos city centre, which can be reached in a twenty-seven-minute drive, to sample local delicacies and visit historic sites.

Located just a couple of kilometres from the vast sandy beach and crystal-clear waters of Laganas Beach, this two-storey villa is perfectly set up for large get-togethers with your extended family, or a large group of friends. 

On the ground floor, you'll find an impressive open-plan space with sky-high ceilings and a mezzanine level above. The ability to glide seamlessly across the polished concrete floor between the kitchen and seating area means that whoever's cooking for the group can flit between socialising and keeping an eye on whatever's in the oven.

You'll find a couple of en-suite bedrooms on this floor, each capable of accommodating up to five guests. Upstairs, there are a further two en-suite bedrooms with space for a further four guests in each, bringing the total guest count up to eighteen.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy in Zante Town, or, of course, you could return home and enjoy a homemade moussaka alfresco with views of the ocean, or even take advantage of the barbecue and grill some delicious souvlaki under the shaded pergola.
