Indeed, there's quite a rustic flavour to the interior what with all the wooden beams and exposed brickwork, but it's fair to say that quite a few changes have been made in the century or so since.

You'll also be well-positioned for day trips to Novigrad, Poreč and Pula, which are all less than an hour away.

Except to go to the beach, perhaps, which is a mere twenty-minute walk away.

When it comes to places to dine, there's no shortage of indoor and outdoor spots to choose from. Enjoy breakfast on the patio and lunch inside with the French doors thrown open. For dinner, we suggest venturing beyond the villa walls to the nearby town of Poreč. Here, you'll soon stumble across tempting waterfront establishments serving traditional seafood. Wander into the old town and catch sight of the gem-adorned Byzantine mosaics in the Euphrasian Basilica.

Guests can enjoy the private swimming pool (heated seasonally) and outdoor shower in the fenced yard, which also features a terrace with barbecue facilities and comfortable seating. The upper level features three air-conditioned bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom, while the other two share a separate bathroom. The property also has an electric vehicle charging station, and guests can park up to two cars on site. A rocky beach is just four kilometers away, while the nearest supermarket is three kilometers away. One small dog is welcome here.

Istria might be a region rich in natural and historic treasures, but nothing has ever made us keener to visit than this home in the tiny village of Nova Vas. Despite its bucolic surroundings, this place is far from rustic, equipped with everything from a heated indoor swimming pool with counter-current jets – available from September to June – to a fully equipped fitness room where you can hire a private masseuse to knead all your worries away. And that’s without even touching on the sprawling grounds where you’ll find a Japanese koi pond and not one but two private waterfalls. We weren’t kidding when we said this home had it all. 

This is a great base for all age groups, but it’ll be a particularly big hit with little ones thanks to its on-site playground and proximity to Aquapark Istralandia, a fun day out for all the family. That’s not to say that child-free groups won’t have anything to keep them busy though. Grab a bike and set off on a gentle jaunt through the countryside or drive into Novigrad for a day of sunbathing by the Adriatic Sea.
