Indeed, there's quite a rustic flavour to the interior what with all the wooden beams and exposed brickwork, but it's fair to say that quite a few changes have been made in the century or so since.

Some of these can be found outside, such as with the swimming pool surrounded by loungers and a dining table – thankfully, there's a pretty impressive outdoor kitchen out here as well so you really embrace the alfresco way of life. However, there are plenty of modern amenities to be found inside, including a games room complete with shuffleboard, darts board and PS5.

If you're more than happy to simply sit back and relax, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to spots to do just that. Step through the French doors into the beautiful garden and bask underneath clear blue skies. Idle away the afternoon swimming in the crystal clear pool, lounging with a cocktail under the shady umbrella and digging into fresh-grilled seafood on the terrace come dinnertime. As the sun begins to set, head upstairs to the sublime roof terrace and watch the night roll in, feeling completely relaxed.

A twenty-minute walk away is Istria's dazzling coastline, so don your comfiest shoes and set off on foot. If it's the beach you crave, Lanterna is a half-hour walk. When your feet need a break, hop on one of the bikes and cycle to the local restaurants or marina, or visit the bars, shops and historic sites in Poreč, seventeen minutes by car.
