Only a thirteen-minute walk away, the ruins, that can be dated back to the 1100s, still stand but are easily missed because of the thick surrounding forest, so be sure to keep a lookout. There's also a small beach in the opposite direction rumoured to be for nudists, so we'll leave you to do what you will with that information.

There's nothing quite like a sea view, and this laid-back villa has scenery in spades. Perched on a cliff above the Adriatic, you can relax and enjoy the panoramas from either the sunny terrace, private pool, or main bedroom's balcony. While the modest interiors aren't as show-stopping – the kitchen is rather tiny, truth be told – we still think it makes for a lovely getaway for families and friends. It's also in a great location. A two-minute stroll lies a pebbled beach (although you'll need to climb down the cliffside path to reach it) and Vrbnik's shops and restaurants are about 300 metres away.

You’re up in the peace and quiet of Croatia’s Northern hills, yet a 16km drive sees you at the buzzing little coastal town of Senj.
