This fairy tale tower is the perfect place for a unique, romantic getaway. Located in picturesque Porto Venere, you’ll have four floors to yourselves here, including a roof terrace with sea views. The stone tower, which dates back to 1161, boasts a marble dining table – perfect for pasta for two – a Jacuzzi bathtub, and a wine cellar. To make your stay even more special, your host provides breakfast and can help arrange a variety of treats, such as a private chef to cook for you at home. The tower is a destination in itself, but if you can tear yourselves away, you’ll find a pretty harbour, Medieval buildings, and a viewpoint overlooking the Ligurian Sea nearby.

Nestled next to the beach in Syracuse, this home is an ideal base for a stay on the Sicilian coast. With one bedroom open to the living area below, we think this apartment is best suited to a family who don’t mind the lack of privacy. Still, when you can wake up to sea views, best enjoyed from the private balcony, sleeping on the mezzanine area seems a small price to pay. You’ll be drawn to the water in no time here – and you’re in luck, Cala Rossa beach is a mere 50-metre stroll away.

Housed in a residential building, this sleek room offers a convenient hotel alternative for solo travellers or couples, equipped with everything needed for a fuss-free stay. Location-wise, you're in the heart of Sorrento, just a short walk from the beach. You'll also be within easy reach of the port, with restaurants and bars on your doorstep – handy, as this pad doesn't come with a kitchen. The interiors are a little basic for our liking, but it's modern and there's a dedicated workspace. Plus, the freestanding tub is the perfect place to relax after busy days spent travelling.

Soak up the awe-inspiring views from the private terrace of this home situated on a picturesque hillside overlooking the Amalfi Coast. Sunset has to be our favourite time of day here. Cultivate paradise at this gorgeous villa, with its vegetable garden, surrounding olive grove and citrus fruit orchard. Made up of four buildings – a main house and three cottages – there's more than enough space for large groups, whether you're exploring the gardens or splashing about in the pool. Two of the cottages are on a single level for guests with reduced mobility, and while the decor may be a little dated, it's certainly grandiose. The nearby town of Forio and its beach are both walkable – you might want a car to explore the rest of Ischia island, though.

This charming apartment is a part of a bright and cozy country home located in a traditional Italian farmhouse called Cascina. The property is situated next to the renowned Bogogno Golf Club, near Malpensa Airport and Lago Maggiore, at the foot of the Alps. The entire property underwent an innovative restoration project in 2022, using environmentally sustainable practices. The unit measures about 30 sqm and comprises a spacious living room with a comfortable double sofa bed, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with a large Italian shower. A sixteenth-century villa in the hilly outskirts of Florence that, at times, has been both a stables and a nightclub, Thermae is one of the most spectacular places we’ve seen in Italy. Its restoration has been a labour of love for the host, Giovanni, and the way that he’s incorporated technology into the original structure is simply impressive. There’s too much to describe here, but know that everything's been taken care of. And if we did have to choose one thing that stood out, it might have to be the pool, hidden away in the vaults, and only accessible through a trapdoor.

Perched on a hilltop above Santa Margherita Ligure, this villa puts you on the route of the Cinque Terre – five towns that cluster rainbow-bright around coves and harbours. It’s a six-minute walk into the charming town centre for meals on the waterfront, just remember it’s a steep walk back up the hill. But the views are worth it – gaze out over the rooftops and shimmering sea from the sprawling terrace. It’s all about dining, reclining and unwinding in the pool or hot tub out here. Two kitchens (one indoors and one covered outdoors) will keep the chef of the group happy and sliding open the glass doors blends the terrace with the huge, open living room.

Nestled within a lemon orchard, this stunning villa is practically hanging off the side of the Amalfi Coast. On the villa’s stepped terraces, the citrus scent of fresh lemons combines with sea salt as you enjoy uninterrupted views over the azure Tyrrhenian Sea. Walkways shaded by twisting grapevines, magenta bougainvillaea and wisteria bursting in purple clouds give way to panoramic views. You’ll find endless secluded spots for dining outdoors, or lounging in the sun. Inside, we were really taken by the hand-painted tiles in every room, bursting with blues, yellows and greens, and the hand-painted details like the decal in the shower, that feel distinctly Amalfi. Rather than facing the TV, the living room’s sofa points directly at the French windows and that incredible sea view and both main bedrooms have their own French windows for a view all to yourself. From the villa, it’s a short walk to the beach at the bottom of Maiori. Here, you can join the coastal walking path that links all the quintessentially Amalfi Coast villages. Or, head out in the car to the town of Amalfi, a fifteen-minute drive away.
