If you're heading to this part of Holland we can safely assume you enjoy the water. Right on the coast and just 1.5 kilometres from Wemeldinge Beach, it's part of a holiday park that's all about getting outside and enjoying the water. Bring your bikes and explore this part of the world at your own pace.

Inside, this home is modern and comfortable, with plenty of room for a family. But the real star of the show is the home's spacious deck overlooking the park's lake. Dine out at one of the local seafood restaurants – we've heard that Zeeland's oysters are to die for – or rustle up a home-cooked meal in your home's fully-equipped kitchen. As night falls, rest your feet on the plush corner sofa in front of the television, and make plans for another day in this charming destination.

Plus, you're just a ten-minute wander from the beach, where you can take up surfing, sailing or simply just lie back and relax. Whether you're off exploring or hanging out at home, it's a perfectly practical pad to reconnect with extended family and friends with plenty to keep you actively engaged.

When you can wake up and be greeted with the view of grazing cattle from your window, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the middle of the countryside. However, this converted farmhouse actually sits within the charming town of Elsloo, less than twenty minutes' drive from Maastricht. The interior certainly nods to the home's rural heritage, with exposed stonework, wooden beams and sloping ceilings, but there are a whole host of modern touches, too — our favourite has to be the hydro-massage bathtub. Outside, there's a pretty terrace with an alfresco dining area, as well as a barbecue grill for whipping up some meaty feasts. Nearby, you'll find plenty of distractions to keep your group entertained, from strolls in the forest to a dip in the baths at Thermae 2000, just over twenty minutes away by car.

Nestled in the heart of Ghent, this home caught our eye with its romantic living area and the stunning dome above the staircase. The fireplace beckons you on colder evenings and creates a romantic atmosphere –  perfect for trying Belgian beer. From your spot at this apartment in the east of the city, you can reach the opposite side and visit Anne Frank’s house in just over thirty minutes on foot, or even less by bike. If you’re looking for a cosy bolthole to base yourself during your trip to the Dutch capital, then this may just be the place for you. Don’t let the 18th-century exterior deceive you, this home is full of modern, Dutch design. The minimalist interior pops with colour thanks to the bright furnishings, as the tangerine-coloured sofa catches your eye and then invites you to snuggle down. Breakfast is sorted for the first morning thanks to the welcome pack, and regular cleaning is also included. Sitting next to the Nieuwe Keizersgracht canal there are lots of scenic walks to enjoy, with plenty of inviting cafes along the way. The furnishings take influence from the Scandinavian nations lying a few hundred miles away across the North Sea, while the kitchen and bathroom showcase pristine minimalism at its simplest. Elsewhere in the building, you'll be glad for access to a shared fitness centre and a communal lounge, and there are even well-maintained grounds to take advantage of during sunny days. Located in the Plantage neighbourhood, this is one of the more leafy corners of Amsterdam. Hortus Botanicus gardens can be reached in seven minutes on foot, while the city's zoo only takes four. The famous Rijksmuseum is a twenty-five minute wander along the canals, too.

You can tell this incredibly chic apartment has been designed by someone with a keen aesthetic eye. The walls are painted in distinctive, elegant tones, the cream corduroy sofa is an enviable centrepiece to the living room, and the pops of lush plant life in each room tie the whole effect together. Wake up and draw the curtains to let the sunlight stream in through the two huge bedroom windows before sipping a coffee on the balcony. Every effort towards comfort and enjoyment has been made: the bathroom has a bathtub and a huge double headed walk in shower, and there is a clothing rail and plenty of storage space for your things.

The kitchen is a joy to cook in, with high spec appliances and plenty of space. On warmer days, fire up the barbecue and enjoy al fresco meals on your spacious, modern roof terrace. There is an antique desk at the window and high speed Wi-Fi if you need to do a spot of remote working. Amsterdam is the city of cycling, and you are well placed to reach its main attractions within minutes by bike – both the Anne Frank Museum and the Rijksmuseum can be reached in under ten minutes.

On the outside, this 18th-century building is bursting with character and charm. There are some period characteristics, too – we love the beams on the ceiling and the gorgeous sash window that floods the space with light. Guests will also have access to the communal gym for morning workouts, a sleek lounge for when you need a change of scenery and a beautiful courtyard for relaxing in the sun.

Location-wise, you're right on the tree-lined Nieuwe Keizersgracht canal, just a stone's throw from excellent restaurants, local boutiques, hip bars and historical museums. With Central Station only fifteen minutes away and everything within walking distance, you won't need a car here. Set off and explore on foot, or better yet, make like the locals and rent a bike from the kiosk out front – it's truly the best way to get around Amsterdam.

Renovated within what used to be two luxury mansions built in the late 17th century by architect Marshal Gerards, this stunning apartment has preserved almost all of its historical aesthetic while revealing contemporary character through its furnishings and accessories. At the heart of the home, the living area set up presents a sociable space to kick back in after days spent discovering the city of Brussels. On sunny days, make the most of the terrace balcony featuring a small seating area – the perfect place for an aperitif or sampling some local Belgian beers. 

Conveniently located right in the centre of Brussels, you'll be just an eight-minute walk away from the Palace of Justice and only fifteen minutes on foot from the Place Royale and Church de Notre Dame de la Chapelle. For days when you don't feel like cooking there is a large choice of local restaurants waiting to be discovered. Head towards Rue Dejoncker (150 metres away) and you'll have an array of bistros, pubs, and restaurants at your fingertips.

There's nothing run of the mill about this unique apartment, set in a period building overlooking the pretty Place Stephanie. It's on the top floor, with plenty of stairs to contend with, but we guarantee the climb is well worth it. Spacious and stylish, with a few quirky features that make it stand out from the crowd, it's been fully renovated to create a modern home in the historic city centre.

The living space is open-plan, keeping everything sociable during your stay, and there's a comfy sofa area, a dining table for six and a really well-equipped kitchen. With a double-height space above the dining area, lit by skylights, and stairs up to a loft level, it's every bit the smart city pad. And yes, that is the front end of a 1950s Cadillac on the wall. Why not?

The bedrooms and bathrooms are all immaculate, and some come with impressive views. But our favourite spot has to be the secret terrace, accessed through the fourth bedroom at the top of the building. It's such a rare treat to get a bit of outdoor space in this central location, we bet you'll be sneaking out here to gaze across the rooftops with a glass of wine at every opportunity.
