Sitting close to the coastline on one of the approximately 24,000 islands in the Stockholm Archipelago, this address benefits from not only a private dock, but also a motor boat you can borrow to explore your surroundings a little further. Alternatively, if you're more than content to sit and admire it from afar, there are alfresco tables in the pretty garden from which to dine and gaze out at peaceful waters.

This being Scandinavia, there are certain points in the year in which you'll simply want to coop up inside and it's more than possible to get toasty and warm here. Not only are there wood-burning fireplaces dotted about the communal spaces, but there's also one in the spa-style bathroom, complete with a tub and relaxation area. We're also particularly fond of the homely design throughout, from the rustic kitchens and bright living spaces to the soft rugs underfoot.

Part of the beauty of this address is its sense of isolation and privacy, although this does mean you'll have to hop in the car and potentially on a ferry for restaurants and attractions. That being said, the host can arrange for a private chef to visit the home, which makes life easier somewhat.

Set in the leafy suburbs of Stockholm, this home offers perfect peace while still being within easy reach of the city. Open the door of this handsome wooden house and you'll find yourself in a bright space that's bursting with that quintessentially Scandi style. Despite its minimalism, there are still plenty of cosy touches, from the movie room, ideal for snuggling up with a blockbuster, to the wood-burning stove which provides a warming atmosphere as you share a meal at the long dining table. Outside, there's plenty of space to enjoy alfresco feasts cooked on the grill, and even your very own swimming pool – take a refreshing dip, or simply laze in the sun as you watch the kids splash about. There's also a tennis court and golf course close by, and a five-minute walk will bring you down to the nearby lake. This corner of paradise might make you forget that you're so close to the bright lights of Stockholm but, should you want to visit the cobbled streets of the old town, you can drive there in around fifteen minutes.

Built back in 1902 and painted in that iconic red hue that epitomises rural Sweden, this spacious and sprawling holiday home has maintained many of its original features over the proceeding century. When combined with its secluded island location, one of some 30,000 that make up the Stockholm archipelago, it's perfect for those seeking that all-too-rare feeling of disconnection from the frenetic pace of modern life.

Despite its remoteness, the house is just a few minutes by car or boat from the vibrant archipelago town of Vaxholm, with its tempting bakeries, fishmongers selling fresh seafood, a surprisingly international array of restaurants, plus supermarkets for stocking up on essentials. However, it's easy enough to maintain your island idyll should you want to.

With a private beach, a stunning sauna that looks out over the water, a private dock for jumping off afterwards, plus an expansive lawn for picnic lunches and outdoor games, why would you want to leave?

Every room has a different character in this Vesterbro home. We love the glamorous Hollywood Regency-inspired materials in the living room that mixes well with an exquisite 1960s teak cupboard. Pink Parakeet is artistic to perfection – and it’s fun to see how trivial art mixes with artsy exhibition posters for a new and personal look. The bedrooms are largely bohemian in style, offering plants, colourful patterns, and cosy bedspreads aplenty.

Part Lego-lovers dream, part tribute to classic Danish design, From Legoland With Love is a little bit of everything. We absolutely love how the host has paired the iconic Corona chair with more playful elements and colours for a charming and adventurous feel. Nestled in between Carlsbergbyen and the outskirts of trendy Vesterbro, you’re also in a calm, residential neighbourhood that’s well-connected to the rest of the city.

The Alphabet oozes Copenhagen charm. Not only is it a loved home with personality aplenty, but you’re also so central that you can see beautiful Copenhagen spires and copper-clad roofs from the terrace. We love how this two-bedroom home juxtaposes contemporary Danish design with design classics like the Safari Chair and the PH 80 floor lamp. It’s very clearly a family home, so expect to feel a cosy and caring atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door.

Even though The Lana is largely minimalist, it’s got plenty of charm with intimate sloped ceilings, bursts of funky colour, and artsy decorations. The bright orange two-seater adds joie de vivre, and we also love the impressive collection of royal blue Arne Jacobsen Ant chairs. This one-bedroom home is right in the centre of Copenhagen, so if you’re looking to be bang in the middle of everything, The Lana could be the one for you.

This penthouse apartment is located right on Strøget, the main pedestrian street in Copenhagen, making it ideal for visitors who want to explore the city on foot. Climb up to the top of the building and once you arrive, and you'll find a wonderfully light and welcoming space that's full of Scandi-style and designer furniture. The lovely kitchen and living space are great for socialising over some smørrebrødands and a glass of wine, and the gorgeous wooden floors and high windows add an extra level of charm. However, our favourite part of this home is the romantic little nook in the bay window where you can look out over the city's spires and rooftops. Back on ground level, you can stroll to Tivoli Gardens, the famous 19th Century amusement park, in less than ten minutes, while the iconic Nyhavn waterfront is a fifteen-minute walk away.

Set against the backdrop of a typical Copenhagen apartment, Antique Fantastique comes to live through its swanky feel. A mix of minimalist style and family heirlooms, you get the best of both worlds, modern and old. Located right by Sortedams Lake, you’re in great hands when it comes to things to do – The National Gallery of Denmark is close by, as well as the Botanical Gardens.

This Vesterbro apartment is a family home with a capital F. It’s both playful and creative in the way it blends colour and its architectural solutions, making this a truly unique sanctuary in the middle of the city. Little ones will love having their own space in the bunk room, with plenty of books, games and toys to keep them occupied. We also love how the master bedroom feels a little like the hideouts we dreamt of when we were kids – because who said the little ones get to have all the fun? The collection of modern art adds a splash of colour to the space, and the designer furniture reminds you that you're in Copenhagen, one of the most stylish cities in the world. Outside, Vesterbro invites you to sample the Danish lifestyle by visiting the brewpubs and antique shops that have made this area so popular. And, if you want to visit the iconic Tivoli Gardens and the Carlsberg Brewery you can arrive there in only twenty minutes on foot.

Cosy yet small, At First Blush is a typical Copenhagen home. We love its feminine vibes and elegant touches – the abundance of posters, artworks and trinkets are particular favourites. Vesterbro is a hipster mecca and great for the younger, artsy crowd. There are plenty of coffee shops, independent eateries and design boutiques nearby, especially since Kødbyen is just down the road. It is worth noting that parts of Istedgade are still a little rough around the edges, which becomes more and more visible the closer you get to Copenhagen Central Station.

At First Blush

The Yellow Brick Road is truly the best of both worlds. Found by the lakes (one of our favourite spots to go for a walk), you’re within walking distance to Nørrebro’s arty, hipster scene, as well as Indre By, Copenhagen’s city centre. The building itself dates back to 1842, so expect lots of charming period features – we found the exposed brick wall particularly mesmerising. On top of all that, Jerrod is also a lovely host – excited to welcome you to his home, you can rest assured he’s thought of everything to make your stay perfect.

The word “wow” came up a few times when we visited this place… A former coal crane located in Nordhavnen (the old industrial harbour area), it’s an incredibly special place that offers an out-of-this-world experience. Set up for pampered living in exceptional surroundings, it consists of three levels of unique luxury. One with your living quarters – the bed is heavenly. Another with a huge meeting room and bathroom – the bathtubs have some of the best views we’ve ever come across. And two terraces – one for enjoying magnificent sunsets, the other tailor-made for sunrises. 

The Old Coal Crane

On the third floor of a beautiful 1870s building, we find Opera Diva. It has expressive interiors with a mix of Scandinavian chic furniture and antique pieces that are paired with some of the host’s own illustrations. And it also comes with a bathtub, which is something we rarely see in Copenhagen. As as an added bonus, one of the most famous Danish opera singers lives next door – and even though she’s retired, you can still hear her practising her singing now and then.

Located in a quiet corner of Indre By but just a five-minute walk from the 17th century Nyhavn waterfront, this bright and welcoming apartment puts you right in the heart of Copenhagen’s action. We love the homey comforts on offer here, from the sheepskin throws to the inviting Scandi and vintage furnishings and the large windows proferring fourth-floor views over the city’s rooftops. Our favourite spot is the private balcony with its views of Christiansborg’s spire. Sit here with your morning coffee while soaking up the fresh air or gather at the elegant dining table with the French doors open to enjoy the warmth and cosiness of your home. With plenty of curios decking the shelves, original artwork, a record player to serenade your evenings and a beautiful antique bureau on which to catch up on work, you’re all set for a relaxing time here, whether for business or pleasure. Factor in the luxurious Hästens bed for a dreamy night’s sleep and you may never leave your comfortable home. When you do, however, you’ll be wowed by the countless sights within easy reach on foot, including the Kongens Nytorv (seven minutes), Strøget’s upscale shops and indie boutiques (twelve minutes) and the Tivoli Gardens (fifteen minutes).

Split across two levels with a wooden ladder connecting the two, this two-bedroom home is ideal for younger travellers looking to be right in the centre of Copenhagen. Even though it lacks in entertainment options, you’ll not have to worry about finding things to do because The Conrad is situated in a repurposed office building on top of Strøget, Copenhagen’s busiest shopping street.

Located in trendy Vesterbro, The Yellow Parasol is surrounded by green outdoor spaces with Sønder boulevard, Enghave Park and Skydebanehaven all a short walk away. This home’s beauty is in its simplicity. The monochrome design is supplemented by quality pieces – we can’t get enough of the large wooden dining table. Be warned, this penthouse apartment might offer great light, but there’s no lift in the building – it’s a seventy-step hike up to the front door.

It’s easy to tell that The Baker & The Photographer is a much-loved home. Flooded with natural light and unique details (we love Pernille’s own photography in the living room), it’s one of those homes that embody Copenhagen really well. Niels dabbles in baking, so you can also expect a fully equipped kitchen, with lots and lots of soul. Located in Islands Brygge, the immediate area isn’t central – but if you love great views and easy access to the world-famous harbour baths, this home could be for you.

The Baker & The Photographer

Niels is an artist, and some of his own works adorn the walls of his characterful home. We can’t get over the bold colour scheme, it really livens up the space in a playful way. While the bathroom is a little worn, it’s a lot bigger than what we’re used to seeing in Copenhagen. And best of all, the location is excellent. It’s right by the lakes, a neighbourhood brimming with coffee shops, restaurants, and picturesque walking and jogging paths.

Diagonals might not be the cosiest of flats we have ever seen, but it has a few unique features that we really like. The sloped ceilings create a warm atmosphere, and the orange shag rugs are a lot of fun and add some spice to this minimalist home. And let’s not forget about the incredible location. You’re right in the heart of Copenhagen’s Latin Quarter, so you’ve got plenty of homely cafés around - and you’re close to Strøget too.

With wooden floors, high ceilings and luminous windows, Union Jack is a typical Frederiksberg apartment. Located by Forum Station, you’re close to Sankt Jørgens Sø and some of the cosy cafés by the lakes. This three-bedroom home isn’t luxurious, but it comes with plenty of charm – we especially love the vintage pieces, nods to the host’s home country and the vibrant colour scheme.

Located a short walk from buzzing Kødbyen, The Good Egg is a typical Copenhagen apartment with lots of charm. Even though it’s not the most unique home in our collection, it has a cool mix of vintage pieces and classic Danish design items. We especially love the superior king-size bed with crisp, high-quality linens, which is definitely not something we see every day in Copenhagen.

Don’t let the graffiti on the front door scare you off, The Green Market is a little haven in young and trendy Nørrebro. Located on the fifth floor, it’s got a loft-like atmosphere with plenty of green plants, vintage furniture and fun artworks. We also love the exposed wooden beams that add a charming touch to this little home. Since it is a studio apartment, it’s especially great for young couples or travellers looking to be in the epicentre of all things cool. It could feel a little cramped – but for what it lacks in size, it makes up for with its charismatic atmosphere. 

The Green Market

Winsome is a one-bedroom home in trendy Vesterbro. It’s eco-friendly, and the efficient open-plan layout is typical of Copenhagen, especially when it comes to this part of the city. We love how the host’s personality shines through the chic original artworks, unique graphic prints, Danish design furniture, collectibles, green plants and the many, many books on art, philosophy and aesthetic. If you want to experience the authentic Vesterbro vibe, this gallery manager’s well-curated home is the place.

Right on the bank of Peblinge Lake, this apartment's location is hard to fault. Being this close to water is as idyllic as it sounds – we loved starting our day with a stroll along The Lakes. If you're looking to explore Copenhagen's scenic streets yet still want to be close to all the action in the centre, this is the spot to be – The Round Tower, Rosenborg Castle and the Strøget are less than twenty minutes on foot, while gastronomic delights and cafes await around every corner. 

We adored the old building, and although the interior is more modern, it's got all the Danish atmosphere you would expect. Everything is decorated in a neutral colour scheme with some vintage French farmhouse touches. The breezy kitchen is well-stocked for cooking, the bedrooms are as comfortable as they are stylish and the bathroom is large and glossy. After a wander around the city, rest weary legs on the squishy sofa and relax with a glass of wine, admiring the views from the two French windows over the lake.

The Ida

It’s evident that Mikkel loves reading. Books are hiding in every corner of his home, manifesting his personality in the feel and look of the home. We love this home’s retro feel, the most outstanding features being the collection of classic Danish design furniture. Mikkel is an analogue kind of guy, so there’s no TV in his home. But why not use that as an opportunity to take advantage of all the things to do in his home (large vinyl collection and record player, books, fully equipped kitchen), as well as bustling Nørrebro, an oasis for artsy, creative types.

The Long Read

Set in a renovated home that dates back to 1880 and opens up to a beautiful garden, Lykke (meaning happiness in Danish) is all we want from a Copenhagen home. Bright and luminous, it sets the scene for a wonderful holiday with the family. The immediate neighbourhood has a distinct character (it’s on the quiet side), but it’s filled with beautiful buildings and swanky villas. We love the delicate combination of colours, Danish design icons (Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton), and the eye-catching posters from the host’s own company.

Lykke

Positively brimming with colour and personality, this funky pad is Danish hygge at its best. It also oozes character, thanks to Sophie, our host, being a psychology student/painter – and showcasing many of her own vibrant artworks throughout the flat. She also offers an extensive fashion and art book collection for guests to choose from, plus there's a lovely private balcony for a spot of afternoon reading. Enjoy meals in the quirky dining area, with chic lighting, Eames-influenced chairs and brickwork wallpaper, that creates an industrial-styled space. Splashes of colour are painted on the home's blank canvas of wooden floors and whitewashed walls to make for a modern and artsy apartment that really packs a punch. In true Copenhagen fashion, the bathroom isn’t luxurious (it’s actually rather small), but we’re willing to look past that as the rest of the home is so charming. Outside, Frederiksberg is on the fancier side, so it’s especially ideal for someone who craves a bit of peace and quiet. You'll find upscale shops, boutiques and gourmet restaurants aplenty nearby, and you're within a five-minute walk from the Aksel Møllers Have metro station, connecting you to the rest of this ever-emerging city.

Pictionary is just a five-minute walk away from Copenhagen’s Central station, which means that you’re very well-connected. Vesterbro is also lovely, especially if you’re looking to sample some new restaurants or coffee shops – or want to be in walking distance to Tivoli and Rådhuspladsen. It’s not the most characterful home on our books, but we like that it feels welcoming and bright. The kitchen is definitely the highlight – it’s large, modern, and well-equipped for cooking.
