Steps away from the beach, this home has large living room windows that look out onto the deep blue Pacific Ocean. Take a seat with a good book and soak in the view, or go down to the second and third floor balconies for some fresh sea air with your morning coffee. 

We love how the cutouts in the kitchen blend the space together with the living room for a more social atmosphere. Unwind after sandy days in the comfortable bedroom, and wash up in the pastel blue tiled bathroom. You’ll be in a great location for exploring this wonderful stretch of coast – the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is just a four-minute walk, while the sprawling Angel Gate Park is only fourteen minutes away. By car, you can visit Long Beach in fifteen minutes or Redondo Beach in thirty. And if you’d like to explore the beautiful island of Catalina, San Pedro has a ferry station just ten minutes away by car from home.

There are so many fantastic, shared amenities to mention at this home’s 100-plus acre oceanfront resort, that we could be here for some time. Facilities include several pools, a spa and fitness centre, beach access, a golf course and more (fees apply). What about the villa itself? We love the private patio overlooking the ocean and golf course and you’ll also find a hot tub too. A couple of things to mention – one bedroom can only be accessed via the courtyard. And at full capacity, two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the family room. The location, we have to say, is great – Los Angeles and many other attractions are within driving distance.

Set right on the sunny West Coast, this beautiful home oozes mid-century charm, and by echoing the relaxed vibe of its Long Beach surroundings, is the perfect place for rest and rejuvenation. 

Imagine yourself here, sipping freshly-brewed coffee with your feet up as you read in the light of the striking living room. Using the statement wall in there as a backdrop for family holiday photos is one of the features we love most about it, but we can’t deny that the outdoor space is our absolute favourite. 

Find yourself out by the pool after a quick breakfast and bask in the sun as you catch up on podcasts in the sun lounger, or find shade under the gazebo or patio umbrella. Pour drinks, enjoy each other’s company, take a dip in the pool whenever you need cooling down, and allow yourself to unwind. 

Drive minutes away to spend entire days on the beach, exploring the restaurant and bars of the area before going sailing at the Shoreline Yacht Club.

From cooking in the kitchen to curling up with a book in the bedroom, this home has been thoughtfully designed to inspire a sense of comfort. But it’s also filled with charm and character – there are unique touches throughout the space. You’ll love taking long soaks in the vintage bathtub or spending evenings sipping drinks on the patio. 

Families and groups of friends will love this area. Days can be spent shopping and dining in Bixby knolls – just a three–minute drive, or down at Shoreline Village and Junipero Beach, a thirteen–minute drive. Art lovers won’t want to miss the contemporary works on display at the Museum of Latin American Art – an eight–minute drive away.

We can think of nothing better than warmer evenings spent out here with friends and family, soaking up the last of the stubborn Cali sunshine with alfresco drinks in hand. The garage parking at this home makes it very easy to head down to the beach and enjoy long fun-filled days spent building sandcastles with the kids, swimming in the sea and frisbee throwing on the sand. In fact, there's up to five beaches under a five-mile radius from your home, meaning you can mix up your chosen tanning spot each day. And after all the lounging around on the coast, you may be in need of a culture fix – if so, The Museum of Latin American Art is a short twelve-minute stroll from your front door.

From the grey timber exterior to the walls painted in shades of ocean blue, this is a home where colour is used to create a certain atmosphere. Step through the front door and you can't help but feel calmer than you did just moments before. The house plant collection contributes to this zen feeling, as does the copious amounts of natural light coming in through the large living room window, which dances pleasingly off the wooden floor. The peaceful ambience is in keeping with the Long Beach location, which is a lot more laid-back than neighbouring Los Angeles. Here, you can get to the eponymous beach in twenty-five minutes, but Downtown LA is only forty-five minutes away in the car if you want to up the ante at any point.

Tucked away in the beautiful neighbourhood of Bixby Knolls, this charming home is within easy walking distance of Atlantic Avenue, where you will find a wide selection of restaurants, bars and breweries. Spend your days visiting the local beaches, learning how to surf (if you’re not already a pro) and sampling the area’s wonderful seafood. At the end of a busy day, you’ll be glad to return home to A Wee Wonder. This newly constructed home has a private entrance, but sits at the back of the main property, where your lovely hosts live, meaning you can always ask them for any help or local tips. Inside, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchenette, a comfortable living area and a wonderful bedroom, featuring a queen Casper mattress. Treat yourself to a glass of wine and wind down on the patio before enjoying an excellent night’s sleep, then do it all again for a perfect vacation in Long Beach.

This lovingly restored 1940s retreat has been a family home for almost three decades. Packed with intriguing artefacts from around the world, every inch is bursting with character and charm. The owner is also an interior designer and sculptor – make sure to play a tune on the upright piano, which is a relic from her childhood. Each bedroom is cosy and well-sized (particularly the main suite), while the many lounges – including an office space – ensure there's a quiet spot for everyone. We're also big fans of tropical terraces and patios. With Manhattan Beach and the Strand both within easy walking distance, it's no surprise we fell hook, line, and sinker.

Just three short blocks from the ocean in Manhattan Beach, its sophisticated beach-vibe styling is fresh and comfortable, and there are two balconies to take in the salty sea air. Nearby, there are plenty of dining options on your doorstep, and from here it's easy to rent bikes and cruise the oceanfront bicycle path that stretches for miles. An evening walk on the strand after dinner is sure to be a memorable experience, just be sure to make it back in time to watch the sunset from your balcony.

A sensational property located directly on Manhattan Beach, this head-turning home is a designer's dream. The cutting-edge glass exterior contrasts nicely with the wood and stone elements inside, which serve to connect you to the natural beauty on show through the double-height floor-to-ceiling windows. The secluded bedrooms allow for a certain amount of privacy. However, it's worth noting that the third bedroom is accessed through a hatch in the ceiling of the second – which certainly makes the prospect of going to bed a lot more exciting for the kids. The communal areas are inviting and cosy and do everything possible to orientate you towards those incredible vistas. So grab a glass of wine and watch the waves roll in as the setting sun reflects off your sleek beach house.
