This classic Venice bungalow is all about those Californian good vibes. Dating back to the 1920s the home echoes the bohemian nature of the neighbourhood, with an authentic, laid-back feel and an eclectic mix of vintage furniture. Inside, there are period features like the pretty arched window and the wood floor, along with a fully equipped kitchen and two bedrooms. But it's the garden that's the real selling point here. Green, secluded and quirky in its own uniquely Venice way, it's a place to escape with your friends and family. Eat at the outdoor dining table, light the fire pit and sit out under the string lights at night. In the morning, grab one of the home's bikes and cycle down to the beach, or bring your boards and head out for a day surfing. A converted garage provides an extra studio bedroom for two in the garden, which can be rented along with the main house. This Venice home is an absolute delight. The proportions and layout are lovely, it's flooded with natural light, has great eco-credentials and it has a private and peaceful outdoor space. Stylishly decorated with a mid-century modern feel, and just a five-minute drive away from the beach, this place is pretty easy to love. Its recent redesign has made it sustainable – there's solar power and an osmosis water filtration system – and created a guesthouse we'd be thrilled to call home for a while. Sit in front of the gas flame fireplace, rustle up a meal in the kitchen (it's a bit retro but we love it) and sit out under the stars in your pretty garden – the soothing sound of the water feature will soon have you ready for bed. Just a short drive or a thirty-minute walk from the beach, you'll probably be heading down there most days. Santa Monica is very close by and it's just a twenty-five-minute drive from Hollywood. You'll also be able to stroll to some of the best bars and restaurants in LA on Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Rose Avenue.

When you get the urge to explore your local area, a short stroll will take you to the Abbot Kinney Boulevard strip where you’ll find a range of trendy boutiques and buzzy restaurants.

It's perched right by the water in Marina Del Rey, and thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass walls, you'll be treated to non-stop ocean vistas no matter the time of day. A private balcony is ideal for alfresco sundowners and watching the hustle and bustle of the marina. Head inside, and you can lounge in the bright living area or gaze further afield with the telescope. There are a few quirks here, though. The main bedroom is open to the living space below, and the blinds don't block out the sunlight. But, with Venice Beach a five-minute drive away and panoramas aplenty, it's an excellent option for a getaway on the coast.

Explore the neighbourhood, and you'll find any number of fabulous cafes, bars and restaurants right on your doorstep. Local standouts include Felix Trattoria and Plant Food + Wine, both just a few minutes away on foot. You're about a half-mile from the shore and the famed Venice Skatepark facing the ocean if you head towards the coast. We fell in love with this home based on the location alone, even before crossing the threshold. Just a stone's throw from the beach, you can easily jump in the ocean before breakfast. The home itself is equally breathtaking – we adore the double-height living space with a sea view. It's exceptionally stylish, brimming with character. The outdoor space here is glorious. Tall hedges and trees shelter the garden, so it’s a secluded little oasis. Soak up the LA sunshine as you swim in the waterfall swimming pool or relax in the Jacuzzi. There’s also an outdoor fireplace, so you can spend alfresco evenings sipping wine and catching up.

This apartment manages to tactfully combine both aesthetics to create a bohemian vibe that fits right in with its creative and all-inclusive surroundings. And should you stay here, you'll certainly appreciate the 10ft-high ceilings, open floor plan, and shared outdoor garden space – complete with a hammock, outdoor seating and fire pit for atmospheric alfresco evenings. The quiet residential street is great for a restful night's sleep. However, you're close to the heart of the action – the many restaurants and cafes of Rose Ave, as well as the iconic Venice Beach Boardwalk are just a short stroll away.

This modern retreat is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your Californian getaway. There’s a large garden with a dining area, grill, fire pit, and outdoor shower, while inside is light and bright thanks to sliding patio doors. The third bedroom may be a little tight and the day bed is in a communal space, but they’re great options if you’re visiting with little ones. And while there’s free street parking, keep street cleaning in mind.

Beachy, rustic, chic and peaceful – this apartment is as cute as can be.  Small yet cosy, the home is beautifully designed for a romantic getaway or solo trip. And we're swooning over the Japanese-style cedar hot tub out front – it's the perfect spot to relax with a drink and a book at the end of the day, and more than makes up for the lack of a sofa. We know where we'd rather spend our time. Located on a quiet street in Venice, you're removed from the buzz but plenty close to the action. So, while the cute kitchen contains everything you'd need, there are so many culinary choices nearby, it's tempting to let someone else take care of the cooking – you're on holiday, after all. This is the ultimate relaxing getaway.

Palm Breeze has been designed in a wonderfully coherent manner, and clearly, with its eco-credentials in mind – there are solar panels on the roof, and the water is heated with geothermal energy. The immediate surrounding part of Venice is very walkable, and the beach is about a twenty-minute walk away (or five minutes in the car).

So, while it's true that Venice is undergoing a bit of a transformation, your hosts are striving to keep Venice weird!

This is one super cool coastal pad. We love the stylish and laid-back design of this home that its surfer owners have lovingly crafted. Your hosts' personality really comes through elements such as the wall-mounted clock collection, the reclaimed wood wardrobe doors and the self-build spirit on show in the jungle garden. Here, they've repurposed corrugated steel panels to divide the space, built homemade garden furniture and even managed to fit in an artist studio caravan. There's even a fire pit for cosy evenings. Time To Surf

This cute and quirky cottage-like home embraces the irreverent spirit of its Venice Beach location. It’s close to great shopping on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, tonnes of great restaurants and bars, and of course, the beach (which is a fifteen-minute walk or three-minute drive).

The first thing you’ll notice is the mural of orange and yellow pansies, practically bursting off the walls outside. Stepping inside, it’s a riot of colour, from the mosaic-covered dining table to the tufted green velvet sofa. Shelves are teeming with books in the dining area and the kitchen has a sunny farmhouse feel with a big range-style cooker and wooden breakfast table in the centre. There’s a little shared garden out the back too, brimming with lush greenery and a cute stone water feature.

In no more than a fifteen-minute walk, you can be strolling past the quirky characters that inhabit Venice's iconic boardwalk, as well as the mulling over which of the plentiful nearby restaurants and bars you're going to head to later along Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
