This spectacular, gated Mediterranean-style home in Pacific Palisades has sweeping ocean, city, and mountain vistas. We love the large wrap-around balcony – it's perfect for a morning coffee or sundowner. Walls of bi-fold glass doors in the living and family rooms open to a fabulous garden with fountains, a sparkling pool and a jacuzzi. As the Californian light fades, sit by the fire pit with a glass of wine and enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. This place is perfect for entertaining – there's a large media room with full surround sound to keep everyone occupied as well. 

The absolute highlight for us, though, is the large master bedroom with a walk-in closet, fireplace, automated curtains and a fantastic ensuite with jetted soaking tub and incredible views. There's a spacious separate office with room for assistants or filming with its own restroom and kitchenette too.
 
When you're ready to explore, Downtown Los Angeles is a twenty-five-minute drive, or sunbathe on Venice Beach, twenty minutes in the car. For architecture buffs, the Eames House, a landmark home built in 1949, is just a ten-minute ride.

If it’s just a luxurious Malibu experience you have in mind, the pool and other endless amenities are not too shabby.

Nearby Studio City & Universal Studios, this estate is a nice choice for large families or group get-togethers who want to get out and explore some of LA's hot tourist spots. You'll be in northern Topanga, within easy access to the 101 freeway so you can skirt around town in a jiffy. This home certainly won't win any prizes on the character front as it lacks a consistent design aesthetic, but it's huge and comfortably sleeps 14 – so perhaps it'll be just the ticket for your large group.

Inside, the muted decor ensures that none of your attention is diverted away from that view. Get distracted for even a second, and you might miss a chance to catch a glimpse of breaching humpbacks and surfing dolphins that are frequently spotted off the California coast. 

Though Malibu is, of course, best known for its beaches, those mountains behind you are crisscrossed with trails for all levels of hikers. Afterwards, you can refuel at Neptune's Net, a kitsch seafood diner that serves a mean clam chowder less than five minutes' walk from your home. At the end of each day, mix up a cocktail and listen to the waves roll in as the sun dips slowly below the ocean.

We are really smitten with this stunning beach-front home. Charming coastal interiors, a massive kitchen, twenty-foot high ceilings, a hot tub, ocean views galore – it’s hard to know where to stop. This is an ideal home for a large group of friends or family, looking to spend quality time with one another in a peaceful location. And for those that want to get out and explore, it’s just a two-minute walk to great grocery stores and restaurants. Oh, did we mention that guests have access to a private beach? We’ll leave you with that thought.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the host of this century-old cottage was in fact a fairy godmother and the home itself were to turn back into a pumpkin at the stroke of midnight. There's a distinct fairytale feel to the interior, which is bursting with folkloric design, a whimsical colour scheme and charming architectural features — chandeliers hang from the ceiling and gilded mirror frames sit on the wall waiting to be asked who's the fairest of them all. The one-time hunting lodge is tucked away in the rollings hills of Topanga, and surrounded by lush woodland and majestic mountains, further adding to this most magical setting. Topanga State Park can be reached in five minutes' drive, while Las Tunas Beach only takes ten. There are outdoor adventures to be had without even leaving the home, however. Just step outside into the huge, multi-level garden and you'll find lots of pretty places to take a perch and a recently installed hot tub, as well as some friendly neighbours — the mini pigs. They're looked after twice a day by a caretaker, but you can feed them over their fence, too.  It’s not every day you come across such a special home, but for those who enjoy magic and fairytales, you'll find it completely spellbinding.

With any possibility of traffic noise blocked by the houses beneath, it's a quiet retreat with the beach just a five-minute walk down some nearby 'secret stairs'. A hillside home, there are plenty of outside spaces as you'd expect. Choose between the rooftop deck, the covered dining balcony off the living room or the decadent private spa deck off the master suite – complete with an outdoor bathtub and shower with a view. Inside, there's a laid-back, stylish feel to the place, with teak floors, sloping ceilings and plenty of picture windows. The inside is no less impressive, with huge glass walls and beautiful design – there’s even a private cinema room here.
