Head out the door of this immaculate beach house and you’ll find yourself just seconds away from the golden sands of Mission Beach. Inside, the cool coastal palette reflects the dreamy beachfront location, with accents of driftwood and natural rattan, and there are excellent views of the ocean from the large sun deck. Be the first to bag a spot on the sand and set up camp for the day – the host supplies beach chairs, boogie boards and towels so you’ll be well equipped. That said, you’re so close that you can easily zip back for a forgotten umbrella or some sun cream. If you’re a thrill-seeker, hop on one of the supplied beach cruisers and ride the half mile down the front to Belmont Park’s Big Dipper. As the sun starts to dip in the sky, de-sand the kids ahead of pre-dinner drinks on the outdoor sofa. There’s a barbecue, and the sleek kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, but if you’d rather somebody else did the work, then you’re within walking distance of Mission Beach’s colourful restaurants and cafes.

It’s the ideal spot for long family getaways in the sun. Your host has thought of everything you might need; from a stocked kitchen to beach equipment for the kids and bikes for exploring the boardwalk. After long days on the beach, there’s nothing better than being able to simply stroll back to your home (it’s only a ten-minute walk) and flop down on that plush sectional, queue up a film on the entertainment centre, or just enjoy a cocktail in the private, sunny garden. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific, this home offers spectacular panoramas of crashing waves and the area's famous Bird Rock. The sleek interior doesn't disappoint, either – although the floor-to-ceiling windows guarantee the scenery is always front and centre. We love the enclosed courtyard, with its outdoor fireplace, hot tub and TV screen, and the single-level layout makes socialising a dream. But our favourite spot is by far the oceanfront main bedroom – nothing beats waking up to coastal views each morning. When you're ready to explore, you'll find a few cafes and restaurants nearby, but for more options, make the short drive to La Jolla Village. Beach-wise, Pacific Beach, Windansea and Mission beaches are also within driving distance.

The ideal spot to while away the day soaking up the sun, head back outside to watch day turn to night with a panoramic view of the stars. 
Inside, it’s warm and welcoming, but super spacious all the same. Flashes of blue pay homage to the seafront beyond, while the mahogany kitchen, floors and staircase make things extra cosy. We particularly love the living room. With large, diamond–shaped tiles paving the floor, this space is brought to life by a large, comfy sofa, plush seats and luscious pot plants. We’re sure you’ll find the outside view much more captivating, but if you do feel like watching a series or film, the wall–mounted TV has got you covered. There’s also a huge master suite with ocean views and a luxury, jetted tub. So, for those moments when you feel a little ‘me time’ is needed, pop open the fizz and sink into the depths of your big bubbly bath – bliss!

You’re just two blocks from the beach; take the supplied bikes and cruise around the relaxed neighbourhood of Ocean Beach and over to the cliffs for some stunning views. From biking along the boardwalk to boating, paddleboarding, sailing and swimming – it's safe to say you won't be short of things to do in this neck of the woods. With Mission Bay Aquatic Center located just steps away, and breakfast spots, coffee houses, pubs and restaurants all within close walking distance – you needn't lift so much as a finger when it comes to meal times. However, it's nice to have the option of cooking at the villa, should you wish to rustle up your own recipes too. 

Spread across three levels, watch the sailboats glide across the bay from anywhere in the home – whether that's from the top-floor balcony or down on the ground-level patio with lounge seating. Grab a drink and station yourself ready to watch the sunset over the bayfront. Bliss. We couldn't think of a dreamier way to start and end your days here than with a leisurely stroll along the bayside boardwalks. Or better still, make footprints in the sand as you listen to the waves crash before you on the beach itself.

With ocean views from almost every room, this La Jolla home is something really special. The sound of the ocean sets the scene, rocking you to sleep each night and soothing you throughout your stay. 

The home was originally built in the 1920s and has been lovingly remodelled – it retains that historic charm but is modern and comfortable, with all that you might need for a beachside stay. We’d be dividing our time between the sweet little patio, which is a lovely suntrap, and the various cosy corners with ocean views. The living room just calls out for evenings spent together playing cards, particularly if the weather turns chilly and you can light the fire. 

You’ll likely spend a lot of your time on the beach – it takes at most one minute to walk there. Slightly further afield, La Jolla Cove is seven minutes away by car and the thrills of Belmont Park are just eleven minutes away. La Jolla Village is a treasure trove of fine dining and exclusive boutiques, and it’s twelve minutes away by car. 

When the sun starts to dip in the sky, slip outside to the communal courtyard to take in the breath-taking sunset. Perhaps mix up a cocktail or two for the occasion – you’re on your holiday, after all.

This 1960s mid-century style condominium has amazing harbour views that are utterly picturesque at sunset. Ideally placed, this apartment is close to the best beach in San Diego according to locals, as it is just a short one-minute walk to Bonita Cove following a path down to the ocean and boardwalk. Here, you can play a game of beach volleyball or simply enjoy the serene ocean sounds and clean, golden sands. 

Meanwhile, the famous Mission Beach is only a seven-minute walk away, following a charming beach path that is located just outside your front door. This is a popular spot for water sports. Plus, Mission Boulevard is lined with cafés and eateries for your lunchtime needs, while, other cafés, restaurants, ice cream shops, and even a karaoke bar are within a ten-minute walk from your door. 

Belmont Park, San Diego’s historic oceanfront amusement park – featuring the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster, Liberty Carousel, and Tilt-a-Wheel – can be reached within six minutes by foot. Close enough to walk to from this condo but far enough away that the sounds and crowds won’t disturb you at home while you are admiring the stunning views.

You won’t get much closer to the beach than this San Diego villa, nudged up to the golden sands of South Mission. With panoramic sea views, you’re in a prime position for watching the sunset over the North Pacific Ocean from the beachfront terrace or balcony. Located close to the seafront boardwalk, with volleyball courts, a playground, and calm waters nearby, it’s a great choice for families. It’s worth noting that this villa is only available with five bedrooms and four bathrooms during the summer – at other times it’s rented as a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home that sleeps ten.

Those who see being described as 'meticulous' as something to be proud of will adore this three-storey home in San Diego's North Park neighbourhood. Every component has been thoughtfully considered, from the manicured gardens upon entrance and the colourful modern furniture in the living room, to the sleek kitchen bathed in natural light from the windows running along one wall. Even the exterior is pleasing to look at, the clean lines and black panelling making it stand out as a pillar of modernity in the locale. That being said, you won't feel as if you're in a showroom, thanks to the bountiful amount of space dedicated to relaxation — our favourite has to be the balcony on the first floor that puts you at tree-top level. The location is superb, too. Balboa Park — which holds San Diego Zoo — can be reached in under fifteen minutes on foot, while you can drive to Coronado Beach in ten minutes.
