We consider this stunning estate a true gem and a rare find – resting on the banks of Potomac River, within a tranquil, private community, it is a whole, glorious world to itself. Just the first glimpse of the outside of this imposing house offers a promise of a restful stay – an impression which is only reinforced by all the green space surrounding it.

The bright and spacious interior offers more than a touch of luxury, and we cannot get enough of the breathtaking views of the river, courtesy of the grand windows, which flood the large living area with plenty of natural light. This is a perfect place to relax, with huge, comfortable sofas, and a fireplace for cosy evening snuggles. All the bedrooms offer unique, stylish designs and plush beds, guaranteeing a great night’s rest. 
Factor in all the added luxuries, including our favourite – the private movie theatre – and we think that this is a hard one to beat.

Not too far from the bright lights of New York City, this striking and stylish home sits near the beaches of Westhampton and among the protected marshlands of Long Island. The house itself is a modern twist on the traditional clapboard homes the area is famous for, with wraparound decks looking into the treetops to the rear and plenty of sliding doors allowing the indoors to seamlessly slip into the outdoor space. Downstairs, the living space is all about its designer leather sofa and chairs, as well as a large glass dining table. There's an excellent kitchen, with everything you'll need to cook at home, and even a den upstairs, complete with a sofa and office desk for working remotely. Outdoors, the huge deck is the star of the show, with seating areas, an alfresco dining spot, a cabana and a swimming pool. It's just a ten-minute drive to Westhampton beach to paddle in the Atlantic Ocean or visit one of the many excellent bars or restaurants.

In a countryside-like setting, this beautifully rustic cottage resides far enough away from the hustle and bustle yet close enough to be within easy reach of the town of Silver Spring itself. 

The home's structure dates back to the mid-1800s and retains original oak beam ceilings and a stunning fireplace at the heart of the living room. We particularly love how the bookshelves of the living room and bedrooms inject a pop of colour and emphasise the space's homely character with heaps of charm. Picture yourselves drifting off in the peaceful bedrooms with a book selected from the library in hand. During the daytime, you can also find a reading corner at the window seat in the large play space/ yoga room located in the converted hayloft. 

Spend days out exploring the local trails – in fact, you'll find one just at the end of the street, which sidles the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River. If hiking is your thing, you can go for miles, both in the north direction and south. Alternatively, the local area boasts locations for riding and biking – and you'll find space to store your bicycles in the barn attached to the cottage here too. Within proximity to the centre of Silver Spring, you can also be lapping up the sights of Washington DC in just a thirty-five-minute drive. 

Return to the house for a humbling evening dedicated to taking some downtime – warm up your toes on the heated ceramic floors, or light up the fire and snuggle in front of with a mug of hot cocoa. If you're muddy from nature walks and outdoorsy adventures – you'll find a beautiful marble shower in one of the bathrooms and a Japanese soaking bathtub in the other. Bliss. With the smell of firewood soothing your soul, gaze out of the window to see if you can spot any local wildlife, as from here, you may see foxes, many species of birds, flocks of geese, herds of deer and even the odd hare hopping around.

The Mesmerised Voyager is located in Astoria, Queens, and we’ll tell you why this home is perfect. Not only is Astoria super well-connected to the city, it’s also got great international restaurants (Greek food is a must) and practically no tourists at all. This authentic neighbourhood has a local charm and ease you won’t find in other parts of the city. This sunny 1920s home lies in the heart of Bellport Village. While you'll be close to a few lovely shops and restaurants, we think you'll want a car here for getting to see the best of Long Island, not to mention the range of nearby beaches including Mother's Beach and Shirley Beach. The staircase and lack of childproofing here do mean it's not suitable for little ones under the age of 2, but older kids will love the large garden. The thriving veggie patch comes alive in the summer, while indoors, the fireplace adds a cosy touch in the colder months.

Grab the whole family for a most delightful trip to the Hamptons when you stay at Creek Farm. This family-friendly home was built in the 1860s and while it has been updated since then, it is still very much an old home with all the joys that come with it. Don’t expect to see too many true right angles, for example, and the kitchen sink is still the original. Besides retaining plenty of charm, however, this home is designed with its guests in mind and now boasts modern luxuries like central AC, Sonos surround sound and a large TV with access to Amazon Prime and Netflix. Relax on the porch, fire up the Weber gas grill for a delicious meal and let the children run around and play on the expansive lawn. Best of all, you’re just a short distance from the local seafood stand, wine store, bagel shop, artisanal butcher and the beach.

This cosy apartment boasts a superb location on Billionaire’s Row, a short stroll from Central Park. If seeing the sights is important to you, you couldn’t be better placed – you’re in the beating heart of Manhattan here. The petite apartment is in an elegant pre-war residential condominium and boasts delightful views of the formal gardens to the south. The bedroom is separated from the living space with a screen rather than a wall, but for this location – close to easy transport links, shops, and restaurants – that’s easily forgiven.

In a previous life, this hundred-year-old building was one of the many factories found across Brooklyn – but it's now home to some seriously stylish apartments. This two-bedroom home still retains several features that echo its past, such as the wooden ceiling beams and exposed brick walls. However, there are also plenty of modern comforts to keep you feeling fine during your trip to New York, from the sleek kitchen to the polished wooden floors. If you're traveling for business, you'll be glad to find a desk where you can catch up on emails and high-speed wi-fi to keep you connected. There are even views across to Manhattan from the master bedroom, and chic details like a spiral staircase and patterned rug. The surrounding area is just as trendy, with several independent Brooklyn bars and restaurants just a five-minute walk away and the farmers market at McGlorick Park every Sunday. And if you need to travel further, Nassau Avenue subway station is just an eight-minute walk away to speed you into the city centre.

This one bedroom apartment is located in the heart of Midtown, just a short walk away from Times Square, Broadway, the MoMA, and countless other tourist landmarks. This means it's not the most peaceful neighbourhood but it's definitely a good central neighbourhood from which you can easily explore the best of the city. Though not the most characterful apartment we've ever seen, it's got lots of windows, good (even if not hugely expansive) views and a super comfy bed and sofa too.

Wildflower is the product of a charming host, who has poured her heart and soul into creating a friendly and welcoming home. The décor is by no means posh, and some may even find it a bit cluttered, but it’s got plenty of character. We love the number of plants, pops of colour, cosy blankets and all things that make a home a home. Best of all, the private roof terrace boasts spectacular views of New York City’s skyline, with views of the Empire State Building, the East River Bridges, and even the One World Trade Centre.

Right on the edge of Hudson Yards, this fantastic flat is in one of the busiest areas of Manhattan. There's no shortage of great places to eat, drink and shop nearby, and with Penn Station just around the corner, you're well-connected to the rest of the city. If you're in town for an event, Madison Square Garden and the Javits Convention Center are a short stroll away, or if you're here to sightsee, Times Square is fifteen minutes on foot. Following a busy day in the hustle and bustle, retreat to this cosy bolthole. It's snug, we're not denying that, but the rooms are expertly laid out to maximise the space. We adore the quintessential bare-brick walls, and although the kitchenette is compact, it has everything you'll need to rustle up light bites. But the best part is the communal roof terrace, where you can share a bottle of wine and soak up the views of the city.

This incredible penthouse apartment in the NoMad area of Manhattan is in a prime location to see all the sights and attractions on offer in the city that never sleeps. Plus, it offers space that you will rarely see in this city. A large indoor living area offers an ample kitchen with a breakfast bar, plenty of comfortable sofa seating, an office space with a fireplace to catch up on your work, and even a walk-in wardrobe to store all your shopping from Macy’s and Time’s Square – a twenty-three-minute walk away.

Plenty of Manhattan’s bucket list attractions are also nearby, with the East River reachable in twenty minutes on foot. The Empire State Building is only a short ten-minute walk away, or for a different view from above the city, the Rockefeller Center is reachable in twenty-seven minutes on foot. 

The home’s crowning glory, however, is the private rooftop terrace where you can enjoy your morning bagel with stunning views of the cityscape, including catching a glimpse of the top of the Empire State Building – which is a short fifteen-minute walk from here. The rooftop terrace also has comfortable seating under a shaded awning surrounded by plants, perfect for relaxing with a good book when you need a break from exploring the city. Plus, why not take a dip in the plunge pool on warmer days, and then dry off in front of the roaring fire? We would also love to return to the rooftop at night to cook on the barbecue and enjoy our meals alfresco accompanied by the fantastic panoramas and the sounds of the bustling city below. 

A Fairytale of New York

Stay in prime Midtown with this freshly renovated home. It’s just under twenty minutes on foot to one of New York’s most famous landmarks, the Empire State Building, or Madame Tussauds New York is just over a five-minute stroll. Fashionistas, on the other hand, can head to the Garment District, home to the biggest concentration of fashion designers and manufacturers in the USA – just a four-minute wander. After all that sightseeing, you’ll need somewhere super comfy to chill out in – this apartment is perfect. We love the luxurious touches such as velvet curtains and the marble countertops, as well as the artworks dotted around this abode. If you're in the Big Apple on business, you’ll be glad to know there are desks here too. Stylish and practical – this apartment offers the best of both worlds.

This home is filled with pops of colour, plants of every shape and size, and the host’s own artwork. It might not be a look that suits everyone, but you can count on character and homely touches here. We love the vintage and recycled furniture, which sit comfortably amongst the bright textiles and bohemian accent pieces. On top of that, there’s a private roof terrace, equipped with a hammock and a pallet bench. This home is a haven in the middle of Brooklyn.

The Times Square Suite is really something. Carefully designed by Nicholas Cardone, this apartment is adorned with premium amenities, and unique architectural features, like the exposed cast iron structures that pay homage to this historical building. The bedrooms are a tranquil haven, with spacious king-sized beds and luxury linens, while the bathrooms are clad in Italian Carrara marble and include luscious bath products. This high up, guests will also get to enjoy stunning views that are truly one of a kind.

Aslan captures the essence of Williamsburg in one flat. It’s not perfect, but it has so much character and the design is unique. Touches like the toy fire engine under the kitchen table are not the kind of things you see every day, and while the steel kitchen and whitewashed brick walls are common in Williamsburg, in Aslan they feel perfectly at home.

Located on a charming cobblestone street in the South Street Seaport and built in 1793, this lovely, European-inspired loft was once an ice house. Sparely furnished and set across two floors with an intentional open-plan living space, the easy flow between rooms is freeing. Both levels boast wood-beamed ceilings and original artwork created by the host himself. While this isn't the most luxurious home on our books, it's cosy and bright, a fluid mix of rustic and modern. 


The Cobblestone

From the exposed brick walls to the compact kitchenette, this snug apartment is perfect for those wanting a quintessential New York City getaway. It may be small, but it has everything you'll need – there's a desk to work from in the bedroom, a small dining table for sharing quick breakfasts and light lunches, and an in-suite washer and dryer (rare for NYC). We think this apartment is a cosy place to rest your legs once you've had your fill of sightseeing, and the icing on the cake is the shared roof terrace. Head up there with a few beers or a bottle of wine in the evenings and admire the views over Hell's Kitchen. When you're ready to set out, you'll have plenty to do on your doorstep. The newly opened Hudson Yards is a five-minute walk and home to an array of boutique shops and restaurants. Also close by is Madison Square Garden and Penn Station – reachable in five minutes – and sights like the High Line and Times Square are also within striking distance. Safe to say, this is an excellent spot for first-time tourists and seasoned visitors alike.

Grey Brick Road

While it has a very cool, New York vibe with its exposed brick and crittall windows, the real draw of this cosy apartment is its fantastic location. Located in the heart of Hell's Kitchen, not only are you immersed in the neighbourhood's kicking culinary scene brimming with fine-dining restaurants, hip bars and trendy cafés, but you're in a quieter, more residential area of NYC, away from the hustle and bustle of Midtown Manhattan. And yet, only a sixteen-minute walk from the Empire State Building and a fifteen-minute wander to the world's most visited tourist attraction – Times Square. When – full of pizza, cheesecake and skyline views from the Top of the Rock – you do eventually tick everything off your day's itinerary list and return home, you'll find a bright and colourful apartment awaiting you. Put your feet up on the L-shaped sofa or whip up a couple of lite bites to eat around the industrial-chic dining table – complete with quirky pink chairs that we really loved. Both bedrooms benefit from unique artwork and even more vibrant scatter cushions, so there's no fighting over who gets which room. 

Sea of Bricks

Perfect for anyone visiting the area to see friends or family, Rustic Maeve offers lots of space and a cosy interior. Some of the furniture is a bit mismatched, but if that’s not something you’re particularly concerned about then staying here will be a wonderful experience. With five different subway lines within a two-block radius, it’s also brilliantly connected – it will take less than twenty-five minutes, for example, to get to Lower Manhattan. If you’re in town to explore the area, then you'll love that beautiful Prospect Park is a thirteen-minute walk away.
