The location alone of A Garden in Chelsea is fantastic. It’s right in the middle of yes Chelsea, but protected from the noise and hubbub, on a quiet, tree-lined street full of classic brownstones. While it lacks pomp, there’s something to be said for that, and instead it has plenty of historical charm – with things like the piano really helping in that respect – wrapped up in a comfortable, approachable package.

There's no shortage of great places to eat, drink and shop nearby, and with Penn Station just around the corner, you're well-connected to the rest of the city. If you're in town for an event, Madison Square Garden and the Javits Convention Center are a short stroll away, or if you're here to sightsee, Times Square is fifteen minutes on foot. Following a busy day in the hustle and bustle, retreat to this cosy bolthole. It's snug, we're not denying that, but the rooms are expertly laid out to maximise the space. We adore the quintessential bare-brick walls, and although the kitchenette is compact, it has everything you'll need to rustle up light bites. But the best part is the communal roof terrace, where you can share a bottle of wine and soak up the views of the city.

This location is hard to beat – located between Chelsea and Greenwich Village, you’ll have New York’s cultural institutions and acclaimed restaurants at your fingertips. There’s a balcony for sipping your morning coffee, though this central locale isn’t the most peaceful as you might expect. The interiors are modern and perfectly practical for a city break – your host provides a full working setup too, should you be visiting on business. The kitchen is fully equipped with high-end appliances, though we’re sure you'll want to sample the neighbourhood spots on your doorstep.

Despite being located in the heart of New York City, this apartment's calm coastal colours make it seem a million miles away. Inside, it is elegant and incredibly comfortable. Everything you need is provided, from the plush mattresses to the fully functional kitchenette, to ensure a relaxing stay. We adore the lovely mismatched furnishings, especially the headboard made to seem like driftwood and the chair in the living room with Art Deco influences.

Step outside and you’ll find yourself on the very edge of the Garment District. Better yet, it’s only a ten-minute stroll to the iconic Times Square, deserving of a spot on any New York itinerary, or if you fancy exploring further afield, Grand Central Station is a twenty-minute walk away, and not one to miss – don’t forget to gaze up at the beautiful ceiling art either. Food and drink options need no introduction – you’re in Manhattan’s Midtown where every last craving is catered to at any hour of the day.

Located in the heart of Hell's Kitchen, not only are you immersed in the neighbourhood's kicking culinary scene brimming with fine-dining restaurants, hip bars and trendy cafés, but you're in a quieter, more residential area of NYC, away from the hustle and bustle of Midtown Manhattan. And yet, only a sixteen-minute walk from the Empire State Building and a fifteen-minute wander to the world's most visited tourist attraction – Times Square. When – full of pizza, cheesecake and skyline views from the Top of the Rock – you do eventually tick everything off your day's itinerary list and return home, you'll find a bright and colourful apartment awaiting you. Put your feet up on the L-shaped sofa or whip up a couple of lite bites to eat around the industrial-chic dining table – complete with quirky pink chairs that we really loved. Both bedrooms benefit from unique artwork and even more vibrant scatter cushions, so there's no fighting over who gets which room.

Situated perfectly between the Hudson River Park and Central Park, this cosy apartment in Hell's Kitchen is a great place to stay to be centrally located to some of NYC's most beloved spots without the chaos of Midtown Manhattan. Walk to the neon-lit billboards of Times Square in fifteen minutes, ascend to the Top of the Rock, a sixteen-minute yellow cab ride away, and visit the Empire State Building in that same amount of time on foot. This spot is sure to have you spoilt for choice when comprising the trip's tourist itinerary list. Back home, return to a bright and colourfully decorated open-plan living space for a well-needed lie-down on the sofa. The apartment benefits from tasteful artwork and an industrial-chic style with exposed red brick walls in just about every room – spot the vintage James Dean print and vibrant cushions as you wander into the bedrooms. So, if a more residential area, brimming with restaurants, bars and shopping, that's away from the flocks of excited tourists is what you're after, look no further.

Boasting an enviable location in Hudson Yards with easy access to Midtown Manhattan and the Theatre District, this apartment is an ideal base whether you’re in the city for business or pleasure – and the added bonus of the desk makes remote working a breeze. Comfortable for six guests, there’s just one bathroom here, so there could be a queue to get ready in the mornings. But, with a well-equipped kitchen, you can rustle up an American breakfast to fuel up for the day while you wait. 

The Marine

This small but modern home is squeaky clean, has a pleasing interior, and its own washer and dryer, but the location is less than ideal. With its proximity to the entrance of the Lincoln Tunnel, which is the main travel link between New York and New Jersey, this area revolves around that piece of infrastructure. Not only is there dense traffic and thus, a lot of traffic noise, but there are a many parking lots in this area to cater to the commuters. Nonetheless, if you can see past this flaw, this home is good value for money.

Experience New York living to the fullest at this mega-loft in the heart of Union Square. This is one of those movie-set worth pads, with 14-foot ceilings, custom interiors, a chef’s kitchen and a private terrace complete with a barbecue, swing and alfresco dining area. It’s hard to believe you’re in New York with all this space, though the city sounds will remind you now and then. Need to catch up on emails? Your host provides a complete work setup with an ergonomic chair, ultra-high-definition monitor, and a wireless keyboard. Though you’d be forgiven for wanting to stay home for a Netflix movie night with a Manhattan in hand, you’re steps away from Flat Iron’s top restaurants.

If you're looking to discover New York's most beloved sights, then this bright and playful home, only a sixteen-minute wander from the Empire State Building, will be right up your alley. Follow the flocks of excited tourists and whizzing yellow cabs all the way to neon-lit Times Square, only a fifteen-minute walk from your door, and after taking in the striking billboards, seeing a famous musical, going shopping and soaking up the unique feel of the world's most visited attraction, ascend to the Top of the Rock for skyline views over NYC – under a ten-minute cab ride from your cosy apartment. Back inside, we really loved the exposed red brick that makes the home feel like a quintessential brownstone found in the Upper West Side. Stepping in to look around, you'll notice an individual colour scheme for each bedroom, tasteful artwork and elegant ghost chairs around a sleek white dining table. Everything you need for a sweet bite of the Big Apple. 

The Pontiac

Situated within a ten-minute walk of the Hudson Yards (a bustling part of Midtown with dozens of restaurants and attractions), a mere sixteen-minute wander from the Empire State Building with neon-lit Times Square beckoning close by, you're in a fabulous location to delve into the core of the Big Apple. After an afternoon spent sightseeing, shopping or finding the best pizza slice in the city, return to a comfortable NYC-loft style apartment, boasting bare brick walls and tasteful artwork. The bedrooms are thoughtfully decorated and the glass dining table serves as a charming spot for morning coffee before setting off. Elsewhere in the building, take to the top floor for a communal rooftop terrace surrounded by the skyscraper metropolis of New York City. We can think of no better place to tap away on your laptop, play games or sip sundown drinks while socialising with other neighbouring guests.

The exposed brick walls give it a whole lot of character and the open living plan is fantastic for socialising while prepping meals. It's a rental property so may lack that homey feel, but it's comfortable and easy for your trip to the city. Plus you have a shared roof terrace with expansive views!

This is a well maintained and centrally located apartment in the bustling area of Hudson Yards. You're surrounded by dozens of restaurants and attractions, and Penn Station, Madison Square Garden and Javitz are just a few blocks away. The interiors are quite basic, but you have all that you may need for a comfortable stay in the city. We especially love the bare-brick walls and communal roof terrace here.

Located within Chelsea Historic District this Landmark Brownstone is an ideal base for a family or group of friends visiting the Big Apple. Sure, you’ll need to be able to climb stairs here, but with its layout over three floors, there’s plenty of space to spread out. But for us, the location is key. Within walking distance of High Line Park, the Meatpacking District, Chelsea Market, a view of Hudson Yards and a plethora of vibrant bars and eateries, there’s something for everyone here. With a selection of subways nearby, hopping across New York is a breeze, too.

With the home being where it is, you'll find yourself within walking distance of the world-famous Central Park, hip cafes, and other must-see landmarks. Elsewhere, the bedrooms offer a haven of zen-like calm in the middle of Manhattan, with walk-in wardrobes and a Carrara marble en-suite off the main bedroom, adding a touch of luxury. Head upstairs, and you'll uncover a rooftop terrace that offers direct southern vistas over Washington Square Park, MacDougal Alley and the Empire State Building. 

Down at street level, the delights of Greenwich Village await. Undoubtedly Manhattan's most charming neighbourhood, it's attracted the city's quirky and creative types since the sixties. Uproarious comedy clubs and excellent restaurants make it a real nighttime destination, but there's plenty to do during daylight hours. Stroll half a block to the much-loved Washington Square Park, lay out on Pier 45, or wander up to Chelsea Market for cuisine from every part of the globe – both fifteen minutes away.

As soon as you step foot into this apartment, an aura of tranquility will wash over you, thanks to the neutral colour palette, parquet flooring and tasteful artworks. The gates of Central Park are just two blocks away from the front door and, in the other direction, you'll find the theatres of Broadway and Times Square. There are excellent transport links to help you navigate the city, and those travelling on business will be happy to know that the subway can whizz you to the financial district in less than half an hour. At the end of the day, you can hit the shared gym for an invigorating workout, or watch the city light up from your window – the views are pretty special.

We love this stylish home's location in hip Tribeca, a neighbourhood known for its cobblestone streets lined with fashionable boutiques and chic restaurants. Chinatown is a twenty-minute walk or eight-minute ride, while the One World Trade Centre is eight minutes on foot. The iconic Empire State building is a fifteen-minute drive (just over twenty minutes on the bicycles your lovely host Yvonne provides), or if you fancy some green space, Washington Market Park is a mere two-minute stroll.

Back at this apartment, head up to the gorgeous, private roof terrace and take in the views over the Freedom Tower. Inside, textural 3D artworks adorn the walls, and dark oak floors are enlivened with colourful rugs and furnishings. For the kids, there's a fantastic play area with plenty of toys, books and games. There's a home cinema set up too. Our favourite feature, though, has to be the swing in the living area – so random and yet so right. This playful home is perfect for a family.





It Don’t Mean a Thing if It Ain’t Got That Swing

You’ll find this apartment in Hell’s Kitchen, surrounded by entertainment venues, cafes, bars and restaurants – so, it’s safe to say you won’t ever be short of things to do here. The home itself is well-equipped, and while it can sleep four guests with two on the sofa bed, we think it's better suited to families who don’t mind sharing one space. The cherry on the cake for us? The outdoor space. A rarity in New York, and just the spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing.

This chic, light-filled loft boasts an envy-inducing location in the heart of Soho. Huge windows and 14-foot ceilings mean that it’s a bright and welcoming home, with an open-plan living and dining space that’s sure to impress even the most discerning travellers. The chef’s kitchen will delight gastronomes – though there are plenty of restaurants, bars and coffee shops nearby if you prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals. This comfortable and well-equipped home is an excellent base, whether you’re in NYC for business or leisure. There’s even a convenient desk for those needing to work during their stay.
