Dating back to the eighteenth century, it’s safe to say that The Whaler’s Cottage is steeped in history. It has a wonderful garden with lots of room for relaxing, and the interiors are stunning. It’s easy to see that Tom and Max have an eye for design. Light-filled, minimalist, and incredibly elegant, it’s the kind of place you look forward to coming home after perusing Sag Harbor or walking by the beach. Speaking of sandy stretches, you’re close to the village centre, giving you easy access to several beaches, along with lots of wonderful restaurants, shops, and bars.

The Whaler's Cottage

Look out for artists, poets and musicians in the area around this home – it’s located in Springs, arguably the coolest town in the Hamptons. In the past, it’s played host to visionaries like Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning, Kurt Vonnegut, Nora Ephron and John Steinbeck. Luckily, the home’s bright, colourful design lives up to its surroundings, with patterned throws and bedspreads, quirky artwork and unique furniture. There are 1.5 acres of land to explore, with plenty of options for dining outside, whether you choose to relax with a barbecue under the wisteria or socialise on the patio. There’s also a separate barn in the garden, which can hold a further three people. On hot summer days, go for a swim in the pool, or lie back with a book on a sun lounger nearby. As if this weren’t enough, it’s also perfectly located for making the most of Springs, with the sea just a five-minute cycle away, and coastal walks and surf beaches within easy reach. Cook in the state-of-the-art kitchen, barbecue outside on the terrace or screen a movie on the home cinema setup. There's ample outdoor seating and a delightful, heated private pool to enjoy, and in the evenings, you could always treat your loved ones to a performance on the home's drumkit. We love the huge, sociable sofa in the living room and the first-floor sun terrace in particular but nothing beats the location of this place. A matter of metres from the beach and surrounded by quiet streets perfect for walks and bike rides, it's also within easy reach of several shops and restaurants.

This beautiful home is set within dense woodland on the northern East Hampton Coast, just two blocks from a private beach looking out over Gardiners Bay. Inside, there are beautiful hardwood floors, a cosy fireplace for cool evenings and cathedral-like ceilings over the dining area. The bedrooms have that softbox glow thanks to neutral tones and lightweight curtains that offer privacy without blocking the light (so you may want to pack an eye mask for lie-ins). Step outside onto the terrace, and you'll find a seating area centred around a fire pit and a separate dining table, plus a grill for alfresco cooking on long summer evenings. The well-maintained lawn is plenty big enough for the kids to play ball games and keep themselves entertained. If you can tear yourself away, you're just fifteen minutes' drive from an afternoon of wine tasting or twenty-five minutes to Montauk Brewing Company. For a more family-friendly day out, head over to the Hanks Pumpkintown or The Milk Pail for apple picking and corn mazes.

Once you’ve had a flick through the photos, you won’t be surprised to find out that it’s been featured in many design magazines. Inside, the rooms have been thoughtfully curated for families and remote workers with a dedicated home office space and a sleek kitchen and dining area that opens out onto the patio. Note that the third bedroom is only suitable for one adult or two younger children. 

Cruising The Coast

It may look Old World from the outside, but behind this home's traditional shingle exterior is a luxurious and playful home to call your own in The Hamptons. Packed with designer touches, we love the bright, double-height living space, with its character fireplace and huge windows. Parents can enjoy the privacy of the downstairs master suite, with the remaining three bedrooms upstairs. And perhaps while the little ones explore the play shed outside, you could pour a drink from the wet bar and grab a cosy spot on the patio. From here it's just a stroll into Bridgehampton Village when you're ready to explore – an area known for its great walks, cycle routes and water sports. Luckily, the host has provided a shed full of bikes, kayaks and outdoor gear (there's even an outdoor shower for afterwards). Cool off in the saltwater pool, then fire up the grill for a long, lazy meal on the patio or in the formal dining room – doors flung open to the pretty garden. It's just a five-minute drive to Water Mill, and a little further to Southampton and Sag Harbour.

This Hamptons house sits on seven acres of lush greenery, with plenty of space for both kids and adults to enjoy. Old meets new inside, with patterned rugs, antique furniture and an imposing fireplace, along with a slick kitchen complete with coffee grinder and juicer. When the weather is right, stretch out on the sun loungers on the deck before you take a refreshing dip in the pool. No detail has been forgotten here – there's a little kitchen garden where you can pick fresh herbs for your culinary creations, and two bikes are provided for you to get around. A ten minute cycle or five minute drive will take you into Southampton, with its bustling restaurants and boutiques, or down to the sands at Cooper's Beach. Golfers will also be delighted to know that there are several courses within swinging distance.

Whether you want to spend the entirety of your trip at the house or explore the beautiful surrounding area, there is plenty to do on this small strip of Long Island. 

Just A Minute

Exploring East Hampton is a breeze at this coastal cottage. Both downtown and the beach are easily accessible by bike, and a coffee shop and seafood restaurant are just down the street. How's that for being in the centre of the action? Back home, the heated seasonal pool is a highlight, as is the sprawling garden – trust us, they'll be plenty of space for little ones to let off some steam. Fast wi-fi makes remote working easy, while complimentary access to Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ is perfect for family movie nights. The fourth bedroom – which doubles as an office –  has a single sofa bed, which we think is best for children.

A haven of tranquillity, this serene home is perfect for recharging your batteries. Come evening, fire up the barbecue and tuck into an alfresco feast before gathering around the fire pit on the Adirondack chairs to watch the stars come out. The peaceful scenery is made even better by the excellent location. This home is tucked away on a tree-lined cul-de-sac that backs up to a nature preserve, with walking trails right on your doorstep. It's an easy seven-minute drive to the stores, restaurants and coffee shops in East Hampton, while Two Mile Hollow Beach and other stretches of sandy coastline are just eleven minutes away.

The addition of not one, but two wood burning stoves promise to keep you suitably snug throughout your stay, meanwhile the chic eat-in kitchen is kitted out with a host of new appliances, allowing you to rustle up all your best-loved bites in style. 

Clean and contemporary but totally cosy, this place is brought to life by statement light fixtures, beautiful artwork and stylish accessories. We particularly love the choice of soft furnishings in this home – the olive–green sofa is just too sumptuous to resist! Out here, you’ve got a pristine swimming pool set in the wooden deck and a shower to wash sandy feet after a trip to the beach.

Inside, it’s a mix of crisp white walls and ink-black accents. Gabled, white-wash ceilings give that country cottage aesthetic and floor-to-ceiling windows fill the place with sunlight. Boho beanbag chairs and pot plants add a rustic touch to the living room and the sleek, modern kitchen is fit for gourmet meals. Underfloor heating in the plush bathrooms is another nice touch.

Hire a boat, or borrow the home's kayaks and paddleboard to make the most of its unique location. Inside, it's a bright and beautiful space with a truly loved and lived-in feel. Made up of two units, with a staircase joining them together, you'll find two kitchens, two living rooms, and a total of four bedrooms – plus a playroom which can act as a nursery. We loved the upper level's stunning dining area – large enough for you all to eat together, opening out to a large deck and offering panoramic views of the water (it's also where you'll find the piano if you're musically inclined). In the evenings, barbecue outdoors before lighting the fire pit and watching the stars come out one by one.
