This building was once the site of a major manufacturer and there are certain industrial-chic aspects retained in the current apartment, such as the exposed whitewashed brickwork and the bare lightbulbs hanging artfully from a girder. The huge windows that line the walls feel similarly functional, in that they flood the space with natural light — the fact that they also give wonderful views of the Philadelphia skyline is an added bonus. Despite this direction with the interior design, the minimalist white kitchen and bathroom look completely brand new. We appreciated the mural on the bedroom wall by a local artist, which feels appropriate given the creative spirit of the surrounding Callowhill neighbourhood. Here, it's possible to catch concerts at Franklin Music Hall and Union Transfer, both around ten minutes' walk away, or you can take a wander along The Rail Park, which sits just across the street.

Also known as the 'Loft District', the former industrial area is now lined with resorted factories, hip bars and indie coffee houses that attract a cool, artsy crowd. Mirroring the soulful, creative streets below, this industrial-chic loft space is the perfect base for those looking to explore the surrounding area. Filled with exposed beams, concrete rafters and oversized lightbulbs, this one is an interior designer's dream. Natural light pours in through the crittall windows framing the red brick buildings opposite, creating a sunny reading spot for a quiet moment's downtime. Sink into the mellow yellow chairs or sip a glass of wine at the sleek breakfast bar as you wait for dinner to cook – you'll find all of the mod-cons needed for a comfortable stay in this unique attic space, far removed from the excited crowds and Philly locale. When you're ready to head out, catch a show at the Union Transfer (a six-minute walk away) or dine out on 13th Street, twelve minutes from your door, you'll be spoilt for choice with its array of eclectic eateries and gourmet restaurants. Later, swing by the Rail Park for a scenic, post-dinner walk upon your journey home.

Come evening, those in the know flock to Spring Garden Street for its cool brewpubs and live music venues like Union Transfer, or head over to Underground Arts for music, comedy, poetry, and theatre performances. Elsewhere, vibrant 13th street is lined with lively bars and chic eats, while the area's art galleries show off eclectic works by local artists. Just a two-hour drive from New York City, this home in the Poconos is more like a private resort, with an impressive list of amenities and all kinds of entertainment options for a large group. Set less than ten minutes away from scenic Lake Harmony by car, and close to various ski resorts like Jack Frost and Big Boulder Mountain, there are shops and restaurants within a few minutes drive, along with nearby golf courses and a water park.

But that's assuming you'll even want to leave this magnificent home. With four bedrooms, a vast games room, indoor and outdoor pools, a cinema room and a bar, you'll have everything you could need right here. Experience all the vibrancy the area has to offer from this chic, colourful pad right in the heart of it. From its wood floors to the colourful modern art on the walls, there’s a feeling of laid-back, stylish comfort from the moment you walk through the door. We love the sleek kitchen's beautiful blue cabinetry and the inviting window-side sofa that lets you take in rooftop views while kicking back with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. The two bedrooms, meanwhile, have been carefully curated with design and comfort in mind – we’re particularly fond of the city views here too. And then there’s the communal rooftop terrace. Head up there at sunset and take in panoramic vistas over Philly’s skyline before heading out to sample the local cuisine – a Philly cheesesteak is obviously in order. If you’re in town at the right time, Frankford Avenue’s galleries and studios open to the public on the first Friday of every month. Elsewhere, leafy Palmer Park is four minutes away on foot while historic Independence Hall is an eight-minute drive away.
