Situated on the banks of Lake Kiltua, this cosy cabin is as comfortable as it is stylish. Although it's a typical lakeside retreat on the outside, step through the front door and you'll find a thoroughly modern and chic living space. Cooking up a storm is easy in the fully-equipped kitchen, and come evening, the all-important wood-burner will keep you feeling toasty and warm. Make the most of the beautiful lake views and enjoy alfresco meals on the deck, grilling up a storm as the unforgettable night sky twinkles overhead. And you can't have a Finnish getaway without a steam in the on-site sauna – we think it's the perfect way to end the day. Those seeking an active holiday can enjoy hiking, fishing and berry picking nearby. Take the boat out onto the lake and soak up the sunshine, or for a bit more action, the owner can organise guided hunting, fishing and trekking trips. In the warmer months, wander over to Jyrkänkoski Ironworks and check out the museum, cafe and summer theatre or, for ultimate relaxation, rent a mobile hot tub and soak under the stars.

Home truths

Two guests will sleep on the sofa bed on the landing

This is a pretty remote spot – a car is essential and you'll want to stock up on groceries and other essentials before arriving

The cafe and restaurant at the Ironworks are open from the beginning of May to the end of September

Although there is internet here, it may be unreliable – we wouldn't suggest using this as a base to work from home

About Finland

Land of a thousand lakes, Finland is all about embracing the outdoors. In the south, it feels more like a series of islands as huge swathes of lake cut through the land. The way of life here is fish caught by your own hand, and smoked on the cabin terrace. Pine trees tower above and woodland walks and cycling is the way to immerse in nature. Summer brings endless daytime...
