The soft white sand of Silver Sands Beach is mere footsteps away and there are a handful of laid back beach bars and restaurants in the neighbourhood. Fringed by lush botanica, the corner infinity pool juts out towards the sea, competing for the deepest shade of blue. Three tiers of shaded verandas, balconies and a crowning rooftop terrace provide ample space to laze on loungers in the sun or sit back with a glass of something cool under the hum of a ceiling fan. The outdoor sofas and dining tables are just a plush as indoors, where a huge corner seating area is decked with driftwood sculptures and seashell trinkets. The double-height living room is warehouse-big, but has all the elegance of an old plantation house with a mezzanine study area, cooling coral-stone walls and suspended chandelier. When pulled back, the sliding glass doors melt the barrier between indoors and outdoors, and the sea breeze flows in from the garden. A full living room complete with coffee table, ottoman and wet bar sits under the shade of the poolside terrace, and a separate outdoor dining room is crowned with a sparkling chandelier. It’s the kind of space that calls for fine dining and champagne, which your private chef and butler will be more than happy to provide. The pool itself could belong to a five-star hotel – a long rectangle for lap swimming, crowned with a sunken hot tub and lined with day beds and loungers. Sumptuous bedroom suites are set across the main house and in the separate garden cottage with its own private patio. As you travel along the winding driveway, through an enchanting mahogany grove to this luxury home in the renowned centuries-old 23-acre Porters Great House Estate, you'll be congratulating yourself on discovering this gem. Wander down hidden paths past the sparkling pool and old sugar works through stunning tropical gardens. It's hard to choose, but we think one of our favourite spots is by the peaceful lily pond. Once the old carriage house, the villa is cosy yet chic with coral stone walls, marble floors, and metalwork chandeliers. We particularly adore the dining room with its high ceiling, intricate woodwork design and wall of wooden shutters – it's the perfect place to entertain family and friends. If you can bear to leave this Barbadian paradise with its green monkeys and gorgeous birds roaming the grounds, then the gorgeous white sands and turquoise waters of Colony Club Beach are just over a five-minute stroll away.

Sugar Sugar

The only difficult choice at this home is whether to slip into the swimming pool on the terrace or walk a few footsteps to the crystalline turquoise shallows of Payne’s Bay Beach for a dip. A private path leads straight to the sand where beach chairs and umbrellas are set up every day. Should you need to stock up on supplies at the supermarket or want to head out for fish cutters and rum cocktails, Holetown is a ten-minute drive away.

Apart from a private pool, the terrace is home to sun loungers, a big dining table for alfresco meals and a lounge area for cocktails at sunset. The space between indoors and outdoors can be blended by opening the big glass doors into the living room. It’s an open-plan, social space where the whole group can gather, be it for a round of drinks at the marble-style breakfast bar, around the dining table or on the plush grey sofas.
