Bright, boxy and white, you would expect this Protaras villa to have some outdoor space for making the most of Cyprus's famously agreeable climate, but you might be pleasantly surprised that there's a trio of areas on which to bask in the sunshine. As well as a balcony leading off from one of the bedrooms, guests are also treated to a large terrace at ground level complete with a swimming pool and an alfresco dining table, plus a rooftop terrace from which to gaze out at the Mediterranean Sea on the horizon. 

Although you may well prefer to spend as many hours in the open air as possible, you won't feel short-changed when you eventually head inside. Walk behind the glass doors and you're greeted with a space that feels bright and inviting, thanks in main to the stark white walls, shiny floor tiling and open layout that lets the light flow about unimpeded.

When you want to swap the swimming pool for the sea, the nearest beach – Green Bay – is only 700 metres from the front door and there are plenty more to be discovered along the Cyprian coastline, including Konnos and Fig Tree Bay. The centre of Protaras itself is only 1.8km away for when you need shops and restaurants.

Situated in the popular resort area of Protaras – this villa is just a five-minute walk to Sunrise Beach. It’s near bars, restaurants, and shops, too, so there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained and there’s no real need for a car if you don’t want to hire one. Back at this home, there’s a private pool to cool off from the sizzling Cypriot sun or head up to the rooftop terrace and take in the Mediterranean sea views – there’s a barbeque and outdoor kitchen here for meze lunches (including the roof terrace, this home has three levels, so it may not suit those with limited mobility).

Yes, this villa is only 400 metres from the beach and not much further to the centre of the resort town of Protaras, but we'd like this address even if it was in the middle of nowhere. Only recently built, the interior feels fresh and contemporary, but our greatest praise is reserved for the outdoor space. Not only is there a particularly inviting swimming pool, but there's also a balcony with glorious views of the Med and vast amounts of terrace space on which to sunbathe, dine alfresco to even play pool out in the open air.

Feelgood Factory

Located around a five-minute stroll from the centre of Protaras and within walking distance of Vrissiana Beach, this villa is the perfect retreat for small families and couples. The home features an enclosed garden with a private pool and a roof terrace for drinks alfresco. Head inside to find an open-plan living space, comfortable enough for both entertaining and relaxing. Upstairs, the bedrooms aren’t the cosiest, but there’s plenty of storage, and the beds are comfortable.

Out and about, there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in Protaras, a short drive away. You’ll also find the beautiful golden sands and the azure waters of Fig Tree Bay nearby.

The Ocean Around Us

It’s hard not to feel totally relaxed staying in this modern whitewashed villa. Complete with plush furniture, a monochrome colour scheme, and expansive rooms which flow into eachother, the indoor space is pristine and sleek. Meanwhile, the villa boasts breathtaking views down to the ocean thanks to its elevated position. Step out onto the terrace first thing and enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool, pausing for a moment to take in the panoramic vistas. The main bedroom upstairs has a walk-in wardrobe, as well as an en-suite bathroom complete with a spa bath, perfect for relaxing in after a day of exploring. Large glass doors frame the view in each bedroom, and lead out onto a little balcony. Each bedroom is fitted with a TV for cosy movie nights tucked up in bed. 

The villa is in a peaceful location, a ten-minute walk down to the centre of Protaras, where you’ll find local shops, supermarkets and plenty of excellent bars and restaurants. The turquoise waters of Yianna Marie beach are 1.9 kilometres away, where you can spend the day sunbathing and splashing in the water, enjoying a cocktail at the beach bar in between. Pick up some local produce in town before coming home in time for a sunset barbecue, where you can watch the sea turn golden from your terrace. 

Stone & Cerulean

This villa opens its doors to a swimming pool, garden and dining terrace, making it perfect for families and friends looking for a private outside space to relax and soak up the sunshine. Though, our favourite spot is on the rooftop terrace, with beautiful views out to the sea. Inside, it's bright and open, but the interiors are fairly uninspired. The bedrooms are on the smaller side too, so with recommend packing light. Location-wise, the villa is just a five-minute walk from the nearest sandy beach and is ideal for exploring the beautiful resort of Protaras. 

The Garden in Blue 

With its beautiful beaches, pine forests, hiking trails and charming restaurants, Protaras continues to reign as one of Cyprus’ most loved destinations. And just a short five-minute stroll from Fig Tree Bay Beach, this contemporary hideaway perfectly embodies the laid-back spirit of its location. 

Enjoy slow mornings relaxing on the terrace, take cooling dips in the pool and embrace lazy afternoon naps in the shade. By night, you’ll find the outdoor dining area transforms into the perfect setting for golden hour drinks and sizzling barbecue meals. And when you’re ready to relax inside, the living room provides a cosy spot to watch a movie, while the bedrooms deliver a wonderful sense of sanctuary. 

From here, it’s just a short walk to the local bars, restaurants and shops. And for explorations further afield, take a boat trip along the coast or explore nearby Cape Greco National Forest. 

Lightness & Joy  

Minimalist and with views of the sea, you'll love idling by the pool all summer long here. A word of caution – with the vibrant Fig Tree Bay at a five minute walk, beach lovers and cave explorers will have plans of their own. Drive barely 15 minutes and you'll reach Ayia Napa, a town dotted with Blue Flag beaches, historical sites and a nightlife to remember. Nicosia, an hour away, caters to shopaholics and lovers of souvlaki, among other scrumptious delights. Louma Beach and Lombardi Beach are ideal for long coastal hikes. With so much to do, you'll be happy to escape to your starry roof-deck for a bottle of wine before calling it a day.

Beaches are also within easy reach, including popular Vrissiana, where you can try out watersports – or watch from the safety of the sand if you prefer to keep your feet dry. The bright and airy ground floor has an open-plan living and dining area, and the space is flooded with light thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors. Outside, you can relax on the private terrace or in the heated pool.
