Floating Cinder is only available for longer stays, and as such we think it has to be judged slightly differently to places that are destined for short trips. For example, we wouldn’t recommend using the sofa bed (though of course, it’s your choice), but equally, the extra space and the decent kitchen weigh heavier in our verdict.

Found in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, this home couldn’t get much closer to the breathtaking Barcelona Cathedral if it tried. Easily admired even from the living space, we recommend stepping out onto the terrace whenever you want to swoon over the views of the thirteenth century Gothic construction.

Since Barcelona doesn't have a lot of beachside apartments, there's a zone right across the road from it, where modern high rises offer a brilliant view of the sea and the developing Poblenou. Maresme is only a few minutes away from the beach, but you'll need to take the nearby metro to get to Eixample.
