Looking to the African desert for design inspiration, this Eixample apartment is dominated by earthy tones, natural materials and a few houseplants to add a burst of bright colour. Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. You're in for a treat with a stay at this contemporary apartment perched along a handsome leafy avenue of the well-heeled Eixample district. Home to Gaudí's architectural gems, haute couture shops, and Michelin star restaurants, they call this neck of the woods Quadrat d'Or (Golden Square) for a good reason.

Back at home, the pristine, uncluttered interiors will appeal to all you minimalists out there. Flooded with natural daylight thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, it feels like a breath of fresh air to return to after a day soaking up all that Gaudi extravagance in the streets below.

Drop your bags in the spacious hallway, grab a glass of something crisp (the complimentary chilled wine will help with that), then fling the balcony doors open wide to watch the grand avenue of Gran Via bustle below. One of Barcelona's longest boulevards crossing right through the city, it's an impressive sight to behold. And thanks to its elevated position on the fifth floor, the spacious bedrooms feel surprisingly quiet at night with the windows closed and the black-out blinds drawn.

Ronda Universitat is close to Plaça Catalunya and the Modernist sights of Eixample. The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. And of course, if you do plan on venturing further afield in the city, you'll have bus stops and metro stations within less than five minutes reach too.

Fabulously located in the heart of Eixample, within easy walking distance of many of Barcelona's key sights, with a beautiful living space full of lovely period details and a spacious master-bedroom with its own private terrace, this home is a delight. Bedrooms two and three are both extremely small, but we won't hold this against an otherwise fab home. The living space might just be home to the most beautiful flooring in the Plum Collection – we are obsessed!

And you’re in the right neighbourhood to do so. The surrounding streets are archetypical of El Born - Barcelona’s ‘It’ neighbourhood, don’t you know. You’re only two minutes from heaps of trendy bars, coffee shops, and independent boutiques, as well as the imposing Basilica of Santa Maria Del Mar. Start your day with a spot of people watching at an outdoor café before heading on to one of the many sights located nearby.  The lively streets of Plaça Catalunya, Les Rambles, and the Gothic Quarter are all just a fifteen-minute walk away – as is the city’s sandy beach. The second bedroom is cosy, but has everything needed for a comfortable night’s sleep, and for quiet nights in, the well-equipped kitchen will have you whipping up Spanish feasts in no time. In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Just eight minutes from the Plaça de Catalunya on foot, this renovated home boasts a central location in the heart of Barcelona. You'll find it in the Eixample, tucked away in an elegant alleyway and offering a quiet refuge from the tourist hustle and bustle. Here, you're surrounded by a delightful array of boutiques and eateries and within walking distance of the main sights. Go shopping on Passeig de Gràcia, picnic in Ciutadella Park or marvel at the Sagrada Familia – all less than a twenty-minute stroll from your doorstep. 

Inside, spacious rooms flaunt high ceilings, large windows and stylish decor, while contemporary amenities promise a want-for-nothing stay. We especially love the balcony. This wonderful home is located between the districts of the Gothic Quarter and Raval. It's right on the iconic Las Ramblas with its street performers, cafes, restaurants, markets and shops, and it's close to some more of Barcelona's most famous streets. Pedestrianised Calle Ferrán, which leads to the Barcelona City Hall and Plaça Reial, one of the city's most beautiful squares, are both nearby.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

Found in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, this home couldn’t get much closer to the breathtaking Barcelona Cathedral if it tried. Easily admired even from the living space, we recommend stepping out onto the terrace whenever you want to swoon over the views of the thirteenth century Gothic construction. Lucky for you, the outdoor area is made for lounging – grab a seat as you watch the sunrise first thing in the morning, have meals alfresco, read under the Spanish sun, or sunbathe on the turf. 

Light and neutral inside, the home makes clever use of the space with efficient furniture choices like the sofa cum dining bench. The perfect space for relaxation after a day exploring the city at your doorstep or getting work done from the workspace in the lounge or bedroom. Inside your home, a lavish theme continues. The furnishings are high-quality, modern pieces, and the colour scheme of the decor is rich and regal. We particularly love the deep crimson tiled bathroom and dark green feature walls. Pick up an art book from the shelf and have a flick through as you catch some rays on the balconette. From up here, the Urquinaona metro stop is so close you can almost see it – just one minute away, hop on to be whisked around the entire city. But there’s plenty to do on foot. See Gaudí’s masterpieces Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, a fifteen and twenty-minute walk respectively, on the elegant broadway of Passeig de Gràcia. This is a simple, luminous home, whose design is focused more on functionality than aesthetics. Still, the beautiful view and comfort make it a good option for a small family or a group of friends.

With all the city's sightseeing hotspots just an amble away, the location of this stylish Eixample apartment is bang-on. Perfect for a large group of friends or a multi-generational family stay, the bedroom proportions are impressive. If ten of you share, the living space and dining table could feel like a squeeze. But with buzzy tapas bars and restaurants just moments from your door, we doubt you'll be eating in much anyway. In town for work? The desks dotted about the home will come in handy. As will Passeig de Gràcia Metro to blaze a trail across the city for meetings – it's just three minutes from your door.

The architectural details in Cinder Symmetry are the most characterful part of this comfortable, bright home. Even though it's a rental property, the professional touch of an interior designer is evident in the selection of high-quality, minimalist furniture that doesn't clash with the busy walls. El Born is close to the Gothic Quarter, but has a completely different character –  think fewer tourist hotspots, and far more award-winning tapas bars. 

Cinder Symmetry

Enviably located in the heart of Barcelona, footsteps from the Plaça de Catalunya and a bus ride from Barceloneta Beach, this apartment is an excellent choice for all travelling types. If you wish to stay as a group of ten, it’s worth noting there’s not enough comfortable seating, and it’s a bit of a squeeze around the dining table for that many people. The small balcony is a nice spot to enjoy a sundowner, and the kitchen is well-appointed for self-catering.

Located on bustling València street, if you're after somewhere vibrant – with popular modernist buildings like Gaudi's Casa Battló, quirky cafes, and interesting retail options right on your doorstep – this spot is ideal. Walk to the Casa Milà in under five minutes or be at La Sagrada Familia in just a fifteen-minute stroll. You really are in the beating heart of Barcelona here. When – full of sangria, paella and weary from all that shopping – you do return to your new home, you'll find an elegant living space with original artwork, sleek glass tables and a striking cowhide pouffe. There's a graceful yet cosy ambience around the home with ornate gold mirrors, comfy leather sofas and calming neutral tones. We really loved the chic and sociable breakfast bar in the kitchen area – it's the perfect spot for drinking your morning coffee while mapping out the day's itinerary. And with so much to see and do here, that may take some time.

Perfect for couples or small families, you’ll find everything needed for a comfortable stay here – and nearby metro stations make hopping across the city a breeze. If you don’t feel like cooking you’ll find eateries aplenty on your doorstep, and when you crave a spot of greenery, a visit to Ciutadella Park is a must for a fresh-air stroll.

This flat's earthy tones and use of natural materials gives the space a warm and cosy vibe – and we adore every inch. Design-wise, the style here is rustic and a little bit bohemian, with rattan furniture, crochet artwork and swoon-worthy exposed brick walls. Everything you'll need is taken care of by your lovely hosts – the glossy kitchen has basic ingredients and cooking gear, the flatscreen comes equipped with Netflix and Apple TV services and the home manual is the most thorough one we've ever seen. And despite the shared lobby entrance being off a busy road, the apartment is sat at the back of the building and is relatively quiet, making it an excellent spot to relax, unwind and sprawl out after a busy day exploring. Speaking of, you'll find this flat in lively Eixample, a hub of cultural attractions, Gaudi architecture and high-end boutiques. The Cathedral of Barcelona is only a thirteen-minute walk, while Mercado de La Boqueria is ten minutes on foot – head there for fresh produce and local ingredients when you feel like cooking. Whether you want to grab brunch or stroll through a museum, people-watch in a square or dance the night away at a nightclub, this area is rife with adventure.

El Born is a bustling barrio of cafés, cocktails, and Catalan culture. Seconds from all the action, your home is located in a historical building with buckets of charm. We love the exposed brickwork and wooden beams of this original flat. These rustic structural features contrast beautifully with modern, understated furnishings and decor. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows open up on balconies overlooking the street, while cushy sofas and flowing curtains add softness to your surroundings. Up on the communal roof terrace, we recommend getting a cold drink and lying back in the sun loungers. This sunny spot is perfect for an iced coffee in the morning, or a chilled glass of wine in the evening. After relaxing up here, head down to street level to check out the bars and restaurants of El Born. It's also a fifteen-minute walk to the beach and just over five to the Parc de la Ciutadella. With the Barceloneta metro stop five minutes from home, the entire city is yours to explore. But if you're feeling a little overwhelmed by all the incredible options, your friendly host is here to help. They can provide tourist information as well as city maps, taxi booking, and tickets for monuments and museums – truly a first-class service.

With authentic Spanish interiors and a prime location in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, this apartment is ideal for those looking to be within walking distance of the city's most celebrated sights. You're a short stroll from Barcelona Cathedral, Plaza Catalunya and the Parc de la Ciutadella with plenty of excellent shopping and dining options right on your doorstep. Inside, traditional Catalan touches combine with a contemporary design to add real warmth to the pad – that said, the bedrooms do vary in size and there's limited storage space.

Floating Cinder is only available for longer stays, and as such we think it has to be judged slightly differently to places that are destined for short trips. For example, we wouldn’t recommend using the sofa bed (though of course, it’s your choice), but equally, the extra space and the decent kitchen weigh heavier in our verdict. It’s really important to be aware that this listing represents several flats. They are all identical, and all in the same building, but we can’t say specifically which one you’ll get.

With a direct view of Gaudí's masterpiece Casa Batlló, this luxury home's location is an indisputable superpower. So, take a seat on the balcony with the complimentary bottle of cava and admire the vista here or from one of the beds. But that's not all it has to offer – the lovely hosts have made it their mission to compete with the architectural masterpieces in Eixample. A love for peacocks and flamingos is reflected in the many paintings and statues around this home, while the contrast between turquoise and pink is a dominant theme. Many of the design choices pay homage to traditional Catalan architecture and design, making this home more than just a comfortable place to stay. This residence is spread out over two wings, so it's ideal for a group of friends or extended family looking for some privacy. If you’re not satisfied with just seeing Casa Batlló from your window –  it’s just a two-minute saunter away. With tall windows and doors opening to traditional narrow balconies, high ceilings, tiled floors and shutters, it's packed with character. The huge living space has comfy sofas and chairs to one end and a big dining table at the other. A well-lit spot perfect for meals together in the sunshine, all you need to do is open the doors to let the outside in. There's a modern and well kitted-out kitchen, two good bathrooms and two large bedrooms, along with a smaller one that would suit children. It's not just the outside space that’s worth writing home about, though. Inside, traditional architecture combines with postmodern design to create stylish living spaces that you’ll be more than happy to linger in. Stretch out on the L-shaped sofa and indulge in a midday siesta or head downstairs for a relaxing swim in the pool followed by a quick session in the communal sauna. We don't know about you, but we can't think of a better way to spend the afternoon.

Comfy, modern, and effortlessly cool, this gorgeous apartment in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter is the kind of home you’ll be itching to return to after a busy day in the city. We can’t quite put our finger on what makes this place so special, but it probably has something to do with its stylish interior, which was inspired by the works of Ricardo Bofill Leví, one of Catalonia’s most celebrated architects.

Come dinner time, head out to the local tapas bars or whip up your own Catalan feast in the super spacious kitchen, before settling in for a movie or to catch up on your favourite shows on the digital TV.

You’ll find this comfortable apartment on a leafy street in the Eixample district. Inside, there’s a laidback homespun charm with an eclectic selection of artwork and inviting soft furnishings. We loved the original brick and beam ceilings, as well as the double set of French doors in the living space, allowing for plenty of sunlight and a fresh Spanish breeze. Put together a charcuterie board in your kitchen and serve at the dining table or head out for tapas in your trendy locale. There’s a good spot three doors down, not to mention an endless array of bars, rustic tavernas and upscale restaurants within no more than a ten-minute saunter. The famous Passeig de Gracia with its high-end stores and feats of Modernist architecture is reached in less than ten minutes by foot. But should you fancy a break from the city heat, Barceloneta Beach is an eighteen-minute bus ride away.

You’ll struggle to find an apartment more central than this, sitting just off the Plaça Catalunya and a three-minute mosey to the leafy Las Ramblas.
