One of the first things you'll spot from the private balcony of this smart apartment is the Xemeneia de la Bordeta – the historic smokestack of one of the 19th Century porcelain factories this area was famed for. Today it's a protected landmark standing tall in the small square of Plaça de Joan Corrades i Bosch, just opposite this colourful, freshly renovated home. 

Here you're guaranteed a comfortable stay, with plenty of natural light, a squashy velvet sofa to put your feet up on and that rare piece of outdoor space – somewhere to people watch over your morning coffee as the bustling neighbourhood bursts into life. El Poble Sec is not only one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Barcelona, but it’s also the best place access to Montjuïc, the 173-metre-high mountain overlooking the city. This apartment has been renovated fairly recently, and the result is a contemporary space that will delight guests. The open-plan setup makes socialising easy – pop open some Spanish wine and chat to your fellow travellers as you put arrange some tapas to enjoy together. The private balcony is a great spot to enjoy your morning coffee in perfect peace, and there's even more outdoor space on the shared roof terrace. Flop down on one of the loungers to catch some rays, or make friends with your neighbours over a cool drink. The surrounding area is packed with little pavement cafés where you can watch the world go by, along with theatres and bars. As far as homes in La Dreta de l'Eixample go, Caletre is a solid representation of the neighbourhood's architecture. Adorned with Modernist masterpieces, this part of Barcelona boasts great architecture on every corner and even the insides of an unassuming building like this one show some masterful craft. True, the street you'll be staying on is a little bit noisy, but we think that easy access to the cultural heart of town more than makes up for it.

Ronda Universitat is close to Plaça Catalunya and the Modernist sights of Eixample. The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. And of course, if you do plan on venturing further afield in the city, you'll have bus stops and metro stations within less than five minutes reach too.

From up here, the Urquinaona metro stop is so close you can almost see it – just one minute away, hop on to be whisked around the entire city. But there’s plenty to do on foot. See Gaudí’s masterpieces Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, a fifteen and twenty-minute walk respectively, on the elegant broadway of Passeig de Gràcia. You can hit some designer shops en route, before winding back to your locale for tapas and a glass of Spanish wine.

Fabulously located in the heart of Eixample, within easy walking distance of many of Barcelona's key sights, with a beautiful living space full of lovely period details and a spacious master-bedroom with its own private terrace, this home is a delight. Bedrooms two and three are both extremely small, but we won't hold this against an otherwise fab home. The living space might just be home to the most beautiful flooring in the Plum Collection – we are obsessed!

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

This grand apartment is a rare city find, with its ornate interiors, picturesque terrace and central location. It’s an ideal spot if you’re visiting as a large group, with sharing-style bedrooms and a large living room for enjoying post-sightseeing drinks. That said, the apartment is a little compact in areas, with the kitchen being better suited for light bites and the dining room only seating six or eight at most. We're fans of the exposed brickwork in the master bedroom, which adds a loft feel to the space, as well as the pristine subway tiling in the bathrooms.

When it comes to sightseeing, the place to start has to be Casa Milà, which lies five minutes' walk from the home. One of Gaudí's other famous creations, La Sagrada Familia, can be reached in twenty-five minutes on foot, too. The Gothic Quarter takes a similar amount of time in another direction.

This apartment is ideal for those keen to drop off their bags and head out into Barcelona to explore. The second bedroom is cosy, but has everything needed for a comfortable night’s sleep, and for quiet nights in, the well-equipped kitchen will have you whipping up Spanish feasts in no time. That said, with a host of eateries on your doorstep, dining out will be on the menu. Locally, it’s just six minutes on foot to Plaça de Catalunya or ten minutes to the Arc de Triomf.

Just a few blocks from Plaza de España and in walking distance of both Old Town and Barcelona's port, it's no exaggeration to say this two-storey home puts you in the centre of the action. We were fond of the modern interior, pleasingly combing with the traditional vaulted ceilings. The shaded terrace is a particularly nice touch, allowing you to grab some fresh air while you relax at home. When it's time to head out, you'll find museums and shopping centres practically on your doorstep.
