This home is in the heart of the development, its verdant green lawn and deep infinity pool looking out over a canal. If you've got a boat, there's space to moor it. Failing that, we suggest pulling up a chair, either right on the canal or the upstairs balcony, and watching the world float past. With a lived-in vibe and some unique design choices, this home is one-of-a-kind from the pink mosaic tiles of the bathroom to the bright orange bedrooms – kids will love it. There's also plenty of space to entertain the whole gang, with two kitchens, a study, a games room complete with consoles, and an open-plan living area. Come sunset, there's only one place to be, and that's on the top floor watching the last rays set over the terracotta rooftops.

Speaking of, getting to and fro the golden sands and turquoise waters for water sports and sunbathing is easy, so you’ll have no trouble popping back to the terrace for lunch. The canals of the surrounding town, known as the Venice of Spain, are one of its defining attributes, so when you’re not with the kids engaging in activities, you can head out on a nightlife scene as vibrant and luxurious as some of Europe’s other seaside destinations.

Inside, you’ll find a space sleekly designed for comfort and easy living. Arched windows and patio doors bring the Spanish sun in, and allow guests to wander with ease from sun lounger to kitchen and back again.

Our favourite room has to be the cobalt blue accented kitchen with ceramic wall tiles. Outside, the garden is expertly manicured and the swimming pool sits just overlooking the canal, prime position for sunbathing and people watching the glitz and glam of the area, referred to by some as Spain’s Venice. The home offers direct access via the canal to the sea, making your transition between land and water as seamless as masterly brushstrokes.

It’s based just a short stroll away from the stunning Racou beach, where you can enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean, sunbathe on the sandy shore, or sip on a glass of champagne in a beach bar. The home sits nestled away in a peaceful spot, surrounded by leafy green gardens, giving you a serene retreat to return to after days spent in the more vibrant parts of town.

We adore how this home is packed with character – ornate tiled floors, elegant light fixtures, traditional artwork and chic French furniture give it a je ne sais quoi that’s rare to find. There’s plenty of places to make lots of memories here – the beautiful outdoor pool provides the perfect place to cool off in the sunshine, while the terrace invites you to sip on sundowners while you watch the sky turn pink on warm summer evenings. For autumn and winter stays, you can cosy up around the fireplace with a French hot chocolate – drunk out of a bowl, of course – or spend evenings stuck into a good book in the library with a glass of wine.

Plonked right on the Torremirona golf course, this home is a perfect base from which to explore the densely forested landscapes of the Paratge Natural l'Albera and Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa, both within an hour's drive. There is also plenty to do right on your doorstep, from quaint shops to bakeries and butchers. If you're chasing the waves, there are sandy beaches a short drive away with access to water sports, as well as a skydiving centre if you really are chasing the rush. After a day packed with activities, return home to your villa and kick back on the comfortable patio chairs. The light, bright interiors are filled with eclectic art and sculpture, though we wouldn't blame you for abandoning them in favour of the pool. Cook up dinner at the outdoor stove, and don't forget the sangria.

Perfectly positioned on a hillside, a ten-minute drive from the pretty town of Begur, this villa is all about sea views and laidback living. Your days will be spent on your private terrace, soaking up every last drop of the Costa Brava sunshine. Perhaps you’ll settle into a lounger with an ice-cold beverage in hand or maybe you’ll swim gentle laps in the glittering pool. When it’s time to eat, set the table on the balcony ready for a Catalan feast whipped up in the no-frills kitchen and if you’d like a quiet moment with your holiday read, the window seat in the bright living space is an excellent spot. Stretch your legs with a twenty-five-minute walk to Sa Tuna, an idyllic cove with a sandy beach – it was our favourite spot to while away the long afternoons. Head home before dusk with a bottle of Cava and watch the sunset melt into the ocean from your enviable vantage point.

Standing in the heart of the Les Gavarres Natural Park, this former farmstead sits amidst oak forests and idyllic nature. Renovated using local materials, the home's rustic charm makes a fantastic backdrop to a family reunion, while the private garden offers stunning landscape views. While the pool is shared with the owners, it's still a great addition – set in the large garden and surrounded by trees, you'll feel the seclusion here. When you start to miss civilization, though, you're just 15 minutes from La Bisbal d'Empordà, a town with shops and eateries, and close to some of Costa Brava's most beautiful beaches.

The well-designed interiors reflect the Catalan heritage, and the building benefits from ground-floor bedrooms and en-suites. Outside living is where this home shines – whether you want to unwind by the swimming pool, explore the gardens or enjoy a glass of Byrrh, a local aperitif on the terrace. The location suits those eager to explore the woodland, but the beaches aren't too far away either.

Sandwiched between northern Spain's mountains and the Mediterranean sea, this apartment has incredible views over Costa Brava. Sliding doors surround the living area, flooding the white- and sand-hued room with sunshine. Push the doors open to relax on the wraparound balcony – prime position goes to the sun loungers and small breakfast table, which look directly over the waves. When you get too warm, wander down to the communal pool to cool off. Interiors are simple, with earthy, neutral tones in bedrooms – think swirling terracotta browns and clay reds on walls, with unique Japanese-style beds in two of the rooms. Both of the dining tables look on to beautiful vistas, though for a sea breeze, head out to the alfresco space – perfect for cool glasses of wine and star gazing.

Not far from the Spanish border you’ll find Perpignan, a classified City of Art and History – thanks to its roots as a former Majorcan capital – and home to this eclectic apartment. It’s only fitting that the bold interior echoes elements of both Spanish and French flair as an ode to its surroundings. Come inside and be prepared for a beautiful treat – what the home’s façade promises with its old-world glamour, the interior more than delivers. We love the stone and wood details, the unique art pieces and furnishings, and the cosy, inviting ambience. There is more than enough space to snuggle up and enjoy a movie night or an afternoon of wine and conversation, with an ornamental fireplace to add to that homely feel. 

The bedrooms, situated upstairs, are another highlight: with plush, comfy beds, timelessly stylish furnishings, and beautiful wooden floors, you’re guaranteed a restful sleep.

You’ll find large living spaces across two floors, making this a great spot for two groups of families looking for the occasional downtime. We loved the contemporary windows that flood the interiors with natural light, providing a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. Its stone-walled garden is in keeping with the home’s traditional charm and offers a lovely backdrop to the sunsets over the Pyrenees each night.
