The real wow factor is the living space’s wrap-around floor-to-ceiling windows though – take in views over Canyelles’ shimmering bay from your sofa, or better yet, head to the upstairs terrace to enjoy breakfast while feasting on the vistas. Afternoons call for lazing by the pool and soaking up the sun on one of the many loungers, while the little ones will love the play area and the dedicated children’s bedroom full of soft toys. Drive less than ten minutes to sandy Platja de Canyelles to dip your toes in the sea before coming back home for a soak in the sunken tub followed by a barbecue feast. When it’s time to turn in, watch the moon rise over the hills from the bedroom’s letterbox windows or private terraces before falling into a wonderfully peaceful night’s sleep.

Located on the Costa Brava, this family-friendly abode is just 800 metres from Platja de Canyelles and 7 kilometres from Tossa de Mar, a charming town home to traditional restaurants and two Blue Flag beaches. The villa itself is equipped with everything you’ll need for a seamless stay and while the bedrooms are simple, they’re comfortable enough for extended stays. Outside, there’s a private swimming pool and a dining terrace, though, at capacity, not everyone will fit around the table, so we’d be tempted by a picnic on the lawn instead.

You'll find this villa only a ten-minute drive from the sandy shores of Platja de Canyelles. Even when you're not lounging on the beach or exploring Spain's Costa Brava region, you'll be able to bask in the sparkling Mediterranean Sea views from this home's private swimming pool and first-floor balcony. The outdoor spaces have coastal relaxation written all over them, while the interior takes a slightly more old-world approach to the design. It's a tad dated, especially the bathrooms, but factor in the postcard-worthy scenery and fantastic location, and it's no wonder it caught our eye.

You can be on the sand in just a few minutes, and while that’s hard to resist, it’s worth taking a moment to appreciate the house. It’s quite remarkable, with a list of amenities that just goes on and on. The interiors have been designed with Spanish culture in mind, each bedroom taking on the name of a Spanish artist. It’s over the top, but in such an unabashedly bold house, it kind of works. Of course, the fact that each has an en-suite bathroom (and a couple of those have jacuzzis) doesn’t hurt. Nestled in the coastal village of Calella de Palafrugell, a scenic walk from the golden sands of El Golfet beach, this villa promises an exceptional stay – especially since you'll have a House Manager and housekeeping team looking after you. Inside, the bedrooms all have their own en-suites and dressing rooms (spread over three floors), plus there's a lift down to the basement where you'll find an independent suite and a professional cinema. Yes, the cinema is impressive, but we expect you'll spend most of your time here outdoors, where there's plenty of space for swimming and soaking up the sun. And just look at that view – it speaks for itself.

In the charming fishing port of L'Escala, the rooftop terrace of this bright and breezy villa gives you a panoramic view over the Bay of Roses. Up here, above the rooftops of the colourful town, you’ll find a turquoise plunge pool offering respite on hot days, and deck chairs to enjoy the view. Dinner can be taken on the terrace at the table for eight, and glass fold-away doors blend the dining terrace with the open-plan living room. Rattan furnishings and driftwood touches bring the beachy vibe inside and pristine white walls are livened up with sea-glass bottles and rare seashells. It’s a five-minute walk to the seafront where boats land the freshest seafood at the harbour, and a ten-minute walk sees you at the sandy stretch of beach at Platja del Rec. Explore the town on foot and dine on the catch of the day, or stock up on fresh fish and sun-ripened fruit and veg and cook in the vintage-chic kitchen back home.

Perfectly positioned on a hillside, a ten-minute drive from the pretty town of Begur, this villa is all about sea views and laidback living. Your days will be spent on your private terrace, soaking up every last drop of the Costa Brava sunshine. Perhaps you’ll settle into a lounger with an ice-cold beverage in hand or maybe you’ll swim gentle laps in the glittering pool. When it’s time to eat, set the table on the balcony ready for a Catalan feast whipped up in the no-frills kitchen and if you’d like a quiet moment with your holiday read, the window seat in the bright living space is an excellent spot. Stretch your legs with a twenty-five-minute walk to Sa Tuna, an idyllic cove with a sandy beach – it was our favourite spot to while away the long afternoons. Head home before dusk with a bottle of Cava and watch the sunset melt into the ocean from your enviable vantage point.

Located in the district of Santa Margarita, this stylish apartment is the perfect place for family and friends to enjoy the simple pleasures of coastal living. From breakfast on the balcony to lounging by the swimming pool, it’s easy to relax and feel at home here.

Outside, it’s only a short walk to the supermarket for any supplies you might need, while the centre of Roses and its beautiful beaches are a nine–minute drive away. Families will love the nearby water park which boasts one of the biggest swimming pools in Europe – only a four–minute drive away. 

And when you’re full of warmth and fresh sea air, you’ll love coming together on the balcony to watch the sunset over the mountains.

Located in the heart of charming Begur, this stylish Spanish villa offers the perfect sanctuary within Costa Brava’s bustling town. Ideally placed for strolling into town for delicious lunches and designer shopping, you’ll quickly slip into the laid-back local lifestyle here. Vibrant Barcelona is also around a half an hour drive away and makes for an excellent day trip. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into ensuring Sunset Hideaway has a sociable vibe. You’ll find large living spaces across two floors, making this a great spot for two groups of families looking for the occasional downtime. We loved the contemporary windows that flood the interiors with natural light, providing a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. Its stone-walled garden is in keeping with the home’s traditional charm and offers a lovely backdrop to the sunsets over the Pyrenees each night.

Renovated to feel luxurious and modern, this beautiful villa was originally built in the 1940s and it has the patchwork stone facade to show for it. Although imposing from a distance, the interior radiates comfort and homeliness to make your break as cosy as possible, but not without a little dash of pizazz. Wander across three floors to find your favourite spot in this home – we can guarantee for some it will be in the games room where you can pass hours playing billiards, whereas other may take most favourably to the minibar and dancefloor. 

As fun as it is indoors, the outdoor area has even more to offer. Splash in the pool or challenge each other to a game of tennis, but don’t forget to unwind on the sunloungers as you kick back with an ice-cold drink and good book. 

Light the barbecue for lunch and make use of the sprawling terrace to socialise with wine, nibbles and good conversation. For a bit of alone-time, you can take to one of the swing chairs to admire the view, or stretch yourself all the way out on one of the hammocks to have an afternoon nap in the shade of the trees. 

Costa Brava has an arresting Mediterranean coastline and we encourage you to explore it. Start by taking a twenty-five-minute walk to the soft sand of Llafranc beach. When you’re not enjoying alfresco meals at home, you might stroll to find some choice restaurants not even ten minutes away.

Standing in the heart of the Les Gavarres Natural Park, this former farmstead sits amidst oak forests and idyllic nature. Renovated using local materials, the home's rustic charm makes a fantastic backdrop to a family reunion, while the private garden offers stunning landscape views. While the pool is shared with the owners, it's still a great addition – set in the large garden and surrounded by trees, you'll feel the seclusion here. When you start to miss civilization, though, you're just 15 minutes from La Bisbal d'Empordà, a town with shops and eateries, and close to some of Costa Brava's most beautiful beaches.

Spanish Sunbeam

This lovely home in Llafranc is perfect for those looking for absolute rest and relaxation. Boasting countryside views, this home is close to the beach and the bars of the town, while being nicely removed from tourist traps. Llafranc is a quiet part of Spain on the Costa Brava, with a stunning coastline and gorgeous beaches. 

The home is bright and cheerful, with bold splashes of colour that add warmth to the neutral palette. Your eye will most often be drawn outside, through the floor-to-ceiling windows that lead onto the large terrace. Trees surround the home, making it feel nicely secluded despite being part of a resort. 

When you’re not by the shared swimming pool – which is huge and inviting – you’ll likely spend most of your time on the terrace. There are sun loungers so sun-worshippers will be content, and there’s a lovely dining area too. You might like to drive fourteen minutes to beautiful Calella de Palafrugell for lunch by the water, and then spend your evenings grilling up local seafood on the barbecue. 

The clear water and soft sand of Platja El Cau are a seven-minute walk away, so days at the beach couldn’t be easier. To really take in the glorious coastline, walk ten minutes to the viewpoint at Mirador de la Divina Pastora. It’s a wonderful spot for sunset.
