Looking for a one-of-a-kind home with a heaven-sent view to boot? Well, they don’t come more character-filled or awe-inspiring than this. Perched high on the hills of Granada and just a short drive from the sandy shores of Lake Iznajar, this ancient church is lovingly reimagined into a unique retreat for relaxation and reflection. 

Step inside, and the house seems so frozen in time you can almost hear the old church bell ring. Ochre-washed walls and vaulted ceilings bring all the historic charm, and in the central nave now lies a vast double-height living space. And don’t get us going on those hand-painted frescoes – best admired from upstairs on the lofty mezzanine level. And there are some surprising flurries of 21st-century living to indulge in here, too. Starting with that infinity pool with a counter-current swim jet to bank some laps as you soak up the jaw-dropping vistas of the Cordova Subbética mountain range.

As night falls, the home takes on a truly magical feel, with the lights of the nearby town, Algarinejo, flickering on and a blanket of stars twinkling above. Cosy up on the Balinese bed outside with drinks to catch a shooting star – we can’t think of a finer spot to toast a day’s end.

 Located among the Andalusian hills, this charming holiday home is part of a larger farmhouse and is split over two floors. The place is a little dated in parts but boasts nice features, such as a private swimming pool and Jacuzzi, with stunning views of the landscape. Other amenities include a giant chess board, as well as a wood-fired oven, and a tiki bar (possibly our favourite addition). Enjoy long hikes through the surrounding area, or head to Playa de Valdearenas for an afternoon by the lake.

Situated in the residential Arruzafa area of Cordoba, just a short drive from its historic centre, this exclusive studio apartment boasts a huge private terrace and garden, as well as access to a communal pool. A perfect base for a couple or a solo traveller, you’ll enjoy comfort and tranquillity here – while the place is compact, there’s plenty of space for relaxing and enjoying some alfresco times. Although situated on the ground floor, note that there are some steps in the outdoor areas.

With a prime position on the Andalusian coastline, it's actually possible to see the intense azure of the Mediterranean Sea if you step up to this home's rooftop terrace. What's most impressive about this address, however, is that this special view ranks pretty low on the list of perks.

That's to be expected when you have an outdoor space that has everything from a swimming pool, ping-pong table and a traditional stone barbecue for feeding fellow guests once tummies start to rumble. As well as that, there's an alfresco dining table on which you can enjoy the fruits of your labours, as well as a couple of peaceful balconies from which to gaze out at the rooftops of Almuñecar.

There's a lot to like inside as well. The design is fresh and contemporary, with a colour palette of soothing neutrals, no shortage of sleek surfaces and chic mid-century furnishings. You might be surprised to see the sauna given that is Spain rather than Scandinavia, but a quick sweat is an invigorating way to start the day.

And there are plenty of ways to fill the hours afterwards, too. San Cristóbal beach takes ten minutes to reach on foot, while the town's ancient castle and El Majuelo botanical gardens are another quarter of an hour on top of that.

There’s a communal gym, too, ideal for those keen to keep up their routine. We recommend bringing a car so you can drive twenty-five minutes to Malaga to see the sights.

Sitting just 200 metres from Torremolinos’ mile-long beach, this fuss-free apartment offers plenty in the way of relaxation. The private balcony is ideal for enjoying alfresco meals while savouring the balmy air, while the communal swimming pool is where you’ll want to spend your days working on your tan. At capacity, two guests will need to share the sofa bed in the living area and there’s a chance you’ll hear some noise from your neighbours throughout your stay. But for those hoping to soak up the Malagan sun on the beach and by an inviting pool, this practical pad is a winner.

The interiors are traditional, if not a little dated, though we think it adds to the charm. Outside, there’s a furnished terrace, a summer kitchen with a barbecue and a private pool for cooling off during the warmer months. After a game of table tennis, why not explore your surroundings? Granada is around a thirty-minute drive away.

Azul Azulejo

Nestled in the picturesque Tíjola Valley, with the Sierra Nevada mountains behind and the rolling hills of the Sierra de Lújar in front, this location is hard to beat when it comes to tranquillity and stunning views. You'll be completely undisturbed here, and although you'll need to hire a car to get around, the nearest beach of Costa Tropical lies just a thirty-minute drive away, with the charming town of Órgiva 3.5 kilometres from the house. Inside, the decor is a little dated, but we reckon most of your time will be spent outside, exploring the area or lounging by the fenced private pool. There's also a dining terrace equipped with a barbecue, so you can enjoy alfresco suppers long into the endless summer evenings. 

The Oasis in Power

Only a five-minute stroll to the sea – so close, you can just glimpse it from the balcony – this apartment's breezy, open-plan feel makes it a great base for exploring Rincón de la Victoria. Although this flat has a very sleek, contemporary design, it still has plenty of soul – we particularly love the traditional patterned kitchen tiles, vivid pops of colour on the cushy throw pillows and the bright, light-filled living space. Our favourite spot is the sun-kissed balcony. It's where you can start your day off with coffee while watching the neighbourhood wake up and end your evening with a glass of sangria as the tantalising sun goes down beyond the apartment block.

When you fancy exploring, the village has multiple attractions nearby, including golf and shopping, as well as a long sandy beach ideal for sprawling underneath clear blue skies. Hire bikes and go adventuring along the lively seafront with its array of bars and restaurants or, for a bit more buzz, make the twenty-five-minute drive to Málaga – we think it's perfect for a day trip.

This stunning Andalusian villa is the perfect getaway for a holiday with your loved ones. The interior of the home is very nicely designed, but it’s the exterior we’re most enthusiastic about. With an infinity pool, ping-pong table and several lovely terraces (including a rooftop one) we don’t blame you if you’d like to spend all your time here. If you want the best of both – the beach is a thirty-minute walk away and the beautiful cities of Málaga and Granada are roughly an hour’s drive down the road.

Located in Villanueva de Algaidas, this villa can host a large group in a fuss-free and authentically Spanish environment. With a private swimming pool and space to soak up the sunshine on the terrace, it's an ideal base for families and friends looking to explore the Malaga region together – although both the outside space and interiors may feel cramped with all seventeen guests. While the decor may not suit those with contemporary tastes, it offers a characterful experience by blending classic Andalusian designs with modern home comforts. Surrounded by greenery, the locale is perfect for nature lovers. Meanwhile, you'll be close to the main road that connects you to other nearby towns in and around Malaga.

Though the home is a little dated in parts, it boasts some nice amenities such as two fully-equipped kitchens and a cosy living room with a fireplace for those colder evenings. Outside, guests can enjoy several seating areas, home-cooked meals on the barbecue, or keep cool with a swim in the private pool. Montefrío is just a short drive away, where you can visit the ruins of a Moorish castle or have a rebujito in one of the bars.

The views at this home are like no other – on clear days, you might even glimpse the Atlas Mountains in Africa. Choose to dine up on the roof or on the shaded front terrace under the pergola, where the outdoor sofas are perfect for toasting drinks at sunset on a romantic evening. Whether you're getting some remote work done at the dining table or whipping up a home-cooked meal, this home is a treat.

If you're not up for cooking, you'll have plenty of restaurants to choose from just a car journey away, and you're only a few minutes' walk from the beach when you want to feel the gold sands between your toes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, the walk home may be a little longer than the walk there, but it's well worth it!

Allocate days to exploring the sweeping views of the nature reserve as you set out to find the hidden waterfalls on the many hiking trails. On other days, you can appreciate the sunshine by doing absolutely nothing more than making yourself comfortable on the beaches along the coast. Sunbathe, frolic in the surf and built sandcastles as the sun begins to dip. 

Come home to a bright and cosy home where you can utilise the open dining, kitchen, and living space by going back and forth to top up your coffee as you keep your nose in a novel. In the foothills of Sierra de las Nieves, you’ll find the historic town of Alozaina where, if you were to walk along the winding streets, much of its storied past is quite plain to see in Latin-inspired churches and the many monuments. Make your way around, stopping off at cafes or restaurants when you’re not exploring one of the many hiking trails of Málaga. 

Return home after a morning out, preferably with little roscos de vino or cinnamon and sugar covered pestiños and sit down for a cup of coffee together at the dining table. Bright and homely, the blend of rustic comfort and more modern touches make for the perfect backdrop to a relaxed holiday where you can focus on relaxing, spending quality time together, and making memories.

This Costa del Sol apartment is ideal for a family of four. Located in rural Alhaurín de la Torre, we recommend hiring a car to get around. Kids will love the waterpark in Torremolinos and the sandy beaches in Málaga and Fuengirola, and for golf enthusiasts, the nearest course is just 1 kilometre away. The home itself is well set up for family life with an open-plan living area leading directly to the poolside, making it easy to keep an eye on little ones. Add to that a barbeque, alfresco dining area, and private parking space and you’ve got all the ingredients for a fuss-free getaway.

We love that you don’t need a car here, as the centre of Nerja is just a fifteen-minute walk away. A stroll in the opposite direction will take you to Playa de Burriana, a long stretch of sandy beach known as the area’s top spot for swimming. You'll also find watersports and beach volleyball here if you're looking for ways to keep the kids entertained.

This modern apartment in Fuengirola is just 50 metres from the beach. When you’re not splashing in the shallows, you’ll likely spend most of your time on the terrace. There’s a private Jacuzzi to relax in, and you can look forward to wonderful sea views. The terrace is also a great spot for pre-dinner cocktails while you watch the sunset.
