You'll be completely undisturbed here, and although you'll need to hire a car to get around, the nearest beach of Costa Tropical lies just a thirty-minute drive away, with the charming town of Órgiva 3.5 kilometres from the house. Inside, the decor is a little dated, but we reckon most of your time will be spent outside, exploring the area or lounging by the fenced private pool. There's also a dining terrace equipped with a barbecue, so you can enjoy alfresco suppers long into the endless summer evenings.

Nautical in whites and blues, this single-level home on the outskirts of Adra offers one of the most breathtaking views over the Mediterranean. With a prime position on the Andalusian coastline, it's actually possible to see the intense azure of the Mediterranean Sea if you step up to this home's rooftop terrace. What's most impressive about this address, however, is that this special view ranks pretty low on the list of perks.

That's to be expected when you have an outdoor space that has everything from a swimming pool, ping-pong table and a traditional stone barbecue for feeding fellow guests once tummies start to rumble. As well as that, there's an alfresco dining table on which you can enjoy the fruits of your labours, as well as a couple of peaceful balconies from which to gaze out at the rooftops of Almuñecar.

There's a lot to like inside as well. The design is fresh and contemporary, with a colour palette of soothing neutrals, no shortage of sleek surfaces and chic mid-century furnishings. You might be surprised to see the sauna given that is Spain rather than Scandinavia, but a quick sweat is an invigorating way to start the day.

And there are plenty of ways to fill the hours afterwards, too. San Cristóbal beach takes ten minutes to reach on foot, while the town's ancient castle and El Majuelo botanical gardens are another quarter of an hour on top of that.

This apartment sits in a gated community at the heart of Axarquia. It’s in the first line from the beach, so you can admire sea views and stroll to the soft sand in no time. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. You’ll have access to the communal salt-water swimming pool, from which you can gaze out to sea as you float in the sunshine. There’s a communal gym, too, ideal for those keen to keep up their routine. We recommend bringing a car so you can drive twenty-five minutes to Malaga to see the sights.

With its Mediterranean Sea views and private balcony, this apartment is the ideal place to crash between dips in the communal pool and tapas-tasting in the heart of Nerja. The private balcony is equipped with an awning (a welcome addition for when the sun becomes a bit much) and you’re only 200 metres or so from Playa Torrecilla. If you’d like to make your stay that little bit more special, your host provides a bottle of champagne as an optional add-on.

Only a five-minute stroll to the sea – so close, you can just glimpse it from the balcony – this apartment's breezy, open-plan feel makes it a great base for exploring Rincón de la Victoria. Although this flat has a very sleek, contemporary design, it still has plenty of soul – we particularly love the traditional patterned kitchen tiles, vivid pops of colour on the cushy throw pillows and the bright, light-filled living space. Our favourite spot is the sun-kissed balcony. It's where you can start your day off with coffee while watching the neighbourhood wake up and end your evening with a glass of sangria as the tantalising sun goes down beyond the apartment block.

When you fancy exploring, the village has multiple attractions nearby, including golf and shopping, as well as a long sandy beach ideal for sprawling underneath clear blue skies. Hire bikes and go adventuring along the lively seafront with its array of bars and restaurants or, for a bit more buzz, make the twenty-five-minute drive to Málaga – we think it's perfect for a day trip.

Sat atop a hill overlooking the undulating Andalusian landscape, this homespun villa is a place to relax and recharge. Inside, it’s cosy and rustic with timber beams, terracotta tiled floors and a collection of antique furnishings. We particularly loved the farmhouse-style kitchen with its quaint green gingham curtains. After a peaceful snooze in the quiet bedrooms, sit down to a light breakfast on the leafy patio. With an infinity pool, ping-pong table and several lovely terraces (including a rooftop one) we don’t blame you if you’d like to spend all your time here. This postcard-perfect home is quietly tucked away in the outskirts of Salobreña. It's quintessentially Spanish, with a terracotta-tiled roof, stone floors and wooden beamed ceilings, but the interior also plays tribute to Moorish design, with its ornate mosaic tiles and lanterns. The top-floor terrace enjoys views out towards a sparkling sea – we think a vista like this is best enjoyed with a plate of delicious food and something cold in had, so fire up your personal barbecue for a relaxed evening in. Salobreña is located at the southern tip of Spain, just an hour's drive from Granada, where you'll find a melting pot of African and European influences. Closer to home, make sure you pay a visit to the eye-catching, tenth-century Moorish castle, Castillo de Salobreña.

You'll also find watersports and beach volleyball here if you're looking for ways to keep the kids entertained.

Rattan furniture, woven rugs and leafy plants add a bit of bohemian flair, but all the mod-cons are accounted for, too – from the rain shower in the master and a glossy kitchen stocked with crockery to Netflix on the flatscreen. The whole flat revolves around the gorgeous terrace and its panoramic views of the Sierra Tejeda (forty minutes by car if you're in the mood for a hike). There are two terraces – our favourite is the rooftop one reached via a spiral staircase, which has plenty of room for entertaining. More outdoor space is available, but it’s shared – you can lounge by the pool or go for a refreshing dip. There’s also a communal gym to maintain your fitness regime while away. Inside the apartment itself, there are more Mediterranean Sea vistas to enjoy, and there’s a lovely outlook from both bedrooms. Out and about, explore the beaches or charming towns of Nerja and Torrox. We’d recommend hiring a car to make the most of your stay.
