Seeking a stylish base in Madrid? This apartment is just the ticket. You'll find it near Chamberí, only a short walk from the metro connecting you to the best of the city. From shopping on Gran Vía to dining in nearby restaurants, there is plenty to see and do here. Neither the kitchen nor some of the bedrooms are the biggest, but it has all the essentials for a hassle-free stay. Just note that though there's space for five, we think it's a better fit for four.

With a fantastic address, just off the Paseo de la Castellana, this apartment has a wealth of attractions nearby. The upmarket districts of Salamanca, Chamberi and Justicia are all close, so you'll have plenty of fine restaurants, chic boutiques and art galleries to enjoy. With one of Madrid's main avenues on your doorstep, the slight downside is you will hear some street noise here, but it's easily fixed with some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We have to say, we love the views over Plaza Villa de París from this home. The kitchen is well-equipped, so you can cook some homemade meals or let your host arrange a private chef to create some of your favourite tapas dishes.

You'll find this apartment in Argüelles, home to low-key tapas bars, art-house cinemas, and traditional eateries popular with students. Exploring is a breeze here. Ventura Rodriguez metro station is a short walk away, though you can also stroll to Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace in about twenty minutes. Back home, there's a practical yet cosy living space. The kitchen is well-appointed for rustling up light bites, while three bedrooms offer respite after a long day on your feet. If you're looking for a laid-back stay, this pad is a great choice.

Keen to be in the hustle and bustle? This apartment, just a ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía, may be a great choice. It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

The Narcisse is only a few minutes away from Calle Fuencarral, one of our favourite shopping streets in Madrid. To say that it's centrally located is an understatement, especially since this home is practically surrounded by Malasaña's finest quirky cafes and restaurants. Narcisse is an ambitious home – the golden details are risky but well-balanced with calmer tones, and the layout is (rightfully) focused on maximising the natural light, which mostly comes from the French doors. But in the end, this home won us over with the urban view.

Get to know the vibrant city of Madrid from this cosy and stylish apartment, located near Malasaña. The facilities are simple here and you'll only have a kitchenette, but there's a range of restaurants right on your doorstep for whatever you're craving. Storage is tight here and there isn't a proper wall or door to separate the bedroom from the rest of the home, but we think it's a great spot for a couple or solo traveller looking to live like a local for a weekend. While you won't find parking outside, nearby public transport will make sure you get to visit all of Madrid's best bits with ease.

This stylish apartment has that perfect blend – a central location that maintains a sense of peace and privacy at all times. Nestled on the second floor and with bedrooms facing the inner patio of the building complex, you're guarded from the bustle of the streets below. 

If you did want to feel the energy of the city from your apartment, we suggest taking a seat on the balcony. A small, intimate table rests at the end of the balcony – an idyllic spot to sit with a glass of sangria or cup of coffee. 

Once you've felt the fervour of the city from the balcony, get out and explore the beguiling streets and charming plazas. For a cultural afternoon, visit the array of galleries and museums, stopping off for an empanada on the way.

The home's location means you're removed from the crowds and yet the city's top sights can be reached in twenty minutes via the Metro (Rubén Darío station is a three-minute walk away). Alternatively, the nearby Almagro area is filled with art galleries, museums, and restaurants if you prefer to stay local. Inside, you'll find three well-sized bedrooms, a home office for remote working, and an inviting dining area. Best of all, the flat offers a private terrace leading off the living area – perfect for pre-dinner drinks with your group.

There’s a cool serenity to this home in Madrid’s lively Chueca neighbourhood with its blue and white living space and bohemian, Japanese-inspired decor. Mellow out on the sofa while listening to a vinyl record or catch up on work at the long desk in the forest green second bedroom. Carefully curated design details – like the master bedroom’s half-moon headboard – give the space a modern feel while the wicker and wood accents lend a peaceful feeling of nature to the proceedings. Our favourite spot, however, is the private balcony with its views over the city’s rooftops. Sit here with your morning coffee while catching some Spanish rays or take in breathtaking sunset views over a glass of Spanish wine. Outside of your home, your Chueca locale is packed with cosy sidewalk cafes, tapas bars, restaurants and a vibrant bar scene, as well as boutiques, and popular markets like San Antón (a ten-minute walk) and Plaza del Dos de Mayo (a four-minute walk). Elsewhere there’s plenty of retail therapy to enjoy along Gran Vía (a fifteen-minute walk) and both the Royal Palace of Madrid and El Retiro Park are walkable in twenty-four minutes.

With this apartment you get the best of both worlds – it’s situated between the traditional Chamberí district and the vibrant Malasaña neighbourhood. The Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Condeduque is a short stroll away, as is the Liria Palace. There’s a wide array of eateries within walking distance as well, offering cuisines from Spanish to Japanese and Persian. We love the large open-plan living space at this home – this room also sleeps guests three and four on a sofa bed. There’s a desk here too for when you need to work while staying in Spain’s capital city.

Chamberí Light

When you see as many flats as we do, you learn very quickly to tell which homes have been done up for convenience, and which are a labour of love. Toquilla clearly falls into the latter category. It’s been designed as a whole, with thought and attention put into the schemes, as well as the materials. We particularly liked the concrete pillars and the glass walls, neither of which are especially common in Madrid. The only real complaint we have is the fake plants – They’re understandable for the convenience, but really, most places would be better off without anything.

With not one, but two workstations, it’s ideal for a spot of remote working if you’re in the city on business. Calle Almagro is probably one of the most iconic streets in Chamberí. Historically, the elites have fled central Madrid in hopes of finding a quieter vibe in this neighbourhood, leading to low-key chic architecture, great restaurants, and bars. Mucha's Jungle has an atypical interior design that reminded us of a Soho townhouse. The wooden floor is a piece of art on its own, and there are lots of beautiful design details dotted around. In spite of the fact that it looks a lot bigger, this is a small attic home, which is perfect for all who thrive in pretty, cosy spots.

Your stylistic Justicia apartment is a reflection of your neighbourhood’s artistic energy, with Jaume Plensa’s “Julia” and dEmo’s “Lucky Frog” statues peeping around the corner on La Castellana. Not only is this apartment’s location second to none, but its vibrant atmosphere is sure to charm you.

With elegant finishes, from the chic artwork adorning the exposed, white brick walls, to the thoughtful choice of contemporary soft lighting, it is at once effortlessly cool and cosy. This home puts Chamberí's diverse bars and shops on your doorstep. Moments from the Paseo de la Castellana, you'll have excellent public transport links too. While we love the bright interior, it may be a better pick for light packers, as there isn't a lot of space in the bedrooms for storage. It's a shame the dining area doesn't seat six, though the kitchen offers another table for two. How about sunset-watching on the balcony after a day spent exploring Madrid?

Tucked away in a typical Madrid townhouse in Chamberí, Grottino is a great base to explore the city. The streets surrounding this home are part of a neighbourhood that's just as opulent as Salamanca, yet closer to the old centre – which is great for a first-time visitor. Grottino might not be the brightest home in our collection, but a lot of care has been invested in designing the lighting in this small home, so that it resembles an urban chalet. We particularly liked the brick wall in the bathroom and the chic kitchenette.

Located in the centre of Madrid, this apartment in the Chamberí neighbourhood is perfectly situated to explore everything the city has to offer. Start each day with breakfast and a cafe con leche alfresco on the balcony terrace as you soak up the morning sunshine and plan your day. 

Close by to this home, you can visit a plethora of museums, including the History Museum, which is just a twelve-minute walk away. Or on rainy days, why not watch a movie at the cinema – a short four-minute walk away. 

The lively Plaza del Dos de Mayo – an urban square which is named after the uprisings that happened on May 2nd 1808, when the population of Madrid rebelled against Napoleon's invading troops – is just an eleven-minute walk away. The plaza is home to many bars and cafes, and at the weekend it often hosts a craftwork and design market. 

Public transport links that are just a four-minute walk away will also allow you to explore further afield. El Retiro Park is just twenty-three minutes away using public transport. El Retiro was exclusively used by royalty until it was opened up to the public in the 19th-century, and now you can admire its ornate fountains, see statues of Spanish writers and heroes, take a leisurely stroll, and lunch in one of the open-air cafes. 

The stunning sights of the Royal Palace of Madrid and the Plaza Mayor are both eighteen-minutes away from this home using public transport. While Casa de Campo – where you will find a zoo and aquarium, an amusement park, tennis courts, an outdoor public swimming pool and much more – is just under an hour away on public transport.

From its privileged spot in Malasaña, you’ll find this apartment waiting to usher you inside with a warm welcome. The cosy living room sets the tone for total relaxation, while the dedicated desk space will be appreciated by remote workers. Both bedrooms come with an ensuite bathroom, and there is plenty of space to stretch out and spend quality time together. It’s worth noting there is no free private parking here, but you will find great public transport links. Plus, it’s just a short stroll to local tapas bars, cafes and shops.

Residential Chamberí might not be smack in the middle of Madrid's theatre scene, but if you're in town to relax and see it on your own terms, then you'll appreciate the quieter neighbourhood. Paquelin is a comfortable home in the heart of it, immaculate and simple. With only a few art prints on the walls (which we thoroughly enjoyed) and generally inobtrusive furniture, it's the kind of home that will best suit an adventurous family who will make it their own. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but it's still well equipped and bright.

The apartment is modern and practical, though it does lack natural light. A fifth guest can be accommodated on the sofa bed, and the two en-suite bathrooms will help speed mornings along, so you can head out and spend more time exploring all that Madrid has to offer.

With a big and luminous living room that transforms into a home cinema, Lovefield is a great stay for those who like to strike a balance between spending their time sightseeing and relaxing at home. The neighbouring streets of Chueca are filled with great bars and restaurants, but they're also well-connected to the city centre. One of the bedrooms in Lovefield doesn't have a window, but otherwise, the design is well-thought-through and coherent.

Proving it's true what they say about small packages, this bold boho apartment might be compact, but it has everything you'd need. Comfortable and well-kept, the living, dining and kitchen space is perfect for a couple exploring Madrid. The dining table could also double as a laptop-friendly workspace for anyone catching up on work. As for your location, Malasaña boasts several hipster cafes and bars. Sights like Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace of Madrid and El Retiro are all within walking distance but can also be reached by public transport if you'd like to preserve your feet.
