This holiday home is a great base for families or groups of friends who don’t mind being a little further outside of Madrid. When you want to see the sights, you can walk to the Franco Rodriguez metro stop, so seeing the likes of El Retiro and Puerta del Sol is easy enough – though you’ll be staying far away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You’ll have a patio with a small private pool to cool off in, and an alfresco dining area. Four guests will be sleeping on sofa beds, which isn’t the most private setup so is probably better suited to children sharing with their parents.

Situated in the Cuatro Caminos and near the financial and business district, this modern apartment is a short walk from the Alvarado metro station, so you can be easily transported to the city centre when you’re ready to catch the sights. It’s a good spot for remote workers or a small group, though please note two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room. Though natural light is lacking here, and you’ll need to climb stairs to reach the bedroom on the mezzanine, it's a comfortable base. Rustle up meals in the kitchen as you chat with your fellow guests over a glass of Spanish wine, or head out to sample Madrid’s’ vibrant culinary scene.

For some of the city’s more iconic landmarks, you’ll need to get a cab or take advantage of the excellent public transport links a short stroll away. So that’s the neighbourhood, now for the home itself. The spacious living and dining room is a great place to relax and if you need to work from home while away, there’s a desk in the main bedroom. If you prefer to try out your Spanish cookery skills, there’s a well-equipped kitchen here too.

We challenge you to find a prettier apartment overlooking the Royal Palace of Madrid. This place is a real showstopper, with twin Juliet balconies opening over Plaza de Oriente Gardens. Bold, bright and just downright beautiful, it's dripping in character thanks to ornate cornice, traditional shuttered windows and classical furnishing. A riot of elegant colours and patterns, it couldn't be further from modern minimalism if it tried.

Once you've arrived and stared out of the window for long enough to take it all in, choose between the two pretty bedrooms – one decorated in calming greens, the other in vibrant terracotta. There's a grand, open-plan living space to keep everything sociable, and a kitchen with everything you'll need for cooking at home. But we suspect you'll be eating out much of the time – it would be rude not to when surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city. And with most of the major attractions on your doorstep too, you'll have plenty to see and do.

Despite being located in the heart of Malasaña, Autumn Jungle is tucked away on a quiet street. Walking to Plaza Mayor or Palacio Real will be a breeze, but the nearby streets of Madrid's trendiest neighbourhood will have you stopping in art galleries and cosy bars along the way. This is a well-executed home with curated artwork, where special attention has been given to the details. It might not be the biggest home in our collection, but it has a pleasant, bohemian chic vibe that fits in perfectly in the spirit of Malasaña.

This chic and attractive apartment has everything you might need for a comfortable city break. It’s located in Chueca, one of Madrid’s liveliest neighbourhoods, full of cafes, boutiques, and bars. Despite its central location, this is a peaceful home-from-home, ideal for unwinding after busy sightseeing days and evenings spent feasting on tapas. It’s bright and welcoming, flooded with light, and has been beautifully decorated in muted tones. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living room – if you’re hoping for more space, we’d recommend a maximum occupancy of two.

Located just outside Plaza Mayor’s arches, this ideally located apartment is the perfect base for those looking to soak up Madrid's vibrant, buzzing centre. 

Blending rustic charm with stylish modern accents, this home feels wonderfully Spanish. We love the exposed beamed ceilings and the wood floors, as well as the houseplants and colourful rug in the living area that add additional characterful flair. 
 
The bedroom is elegantly pared back, offering a comfortable night’s sleep, while the dining area invites celebratory homemade tapas feasts when you’re not out sampling the local dining scene. 
 
Our favourite spot, however, is the private balcony with its wide-sweeping views over the city’s rooftops. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast here while catching some morning rays or watch the sunset from your privileged position over an evening glass of Spanish wine. 
 
When you’re ready to venture out for some sightseeing, you’ll find Plaza Mayor less than a minute’s walk away, while bustling Puerta del Sol is a four-minute stroll from your door. Elsewhere, the Royal Palace of Madrid is a ten-minute walk, the famous Museo Nacional del Prado is an eighteen-minute stroll, while leafy El Retiro Park is just over twenty minutes away on foot.

The upmarket districts of Salamanca, Chamberi and Justicia are all close, so you'll have plenty of fine restaurants, chic boutiques and art galleries to enjoy. With one of Madrid's main avenues on your doorstep, the slight downside is you will hear some street noise here, but it's easily fixed with some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We have to say, we love the views over Plaza Villa de París from this home. The kitchen is well-equipped, so you can cook some homemade meals or let your host arrange a private chef to create some of your favourite tapas dishes.

This homely apartment puts you in the upmarket neighbourhood of Castellana, Madrid’s main financial district. It’s not all business, though – the streets are lined with flashy boutiques, bars, and restaurants. It’s handy for both business and leisure travellers. Plus, the easily accessible public transport connects you with the rest of the city. Back home, the space might be a little snug for all four guests, but it’s a cosy place to relax after a day in the city. Blue Torito is a chilled-out home located in one of the liveliest parts of Madrid. Even though it sports a gentle colour palette, it uses patterns and textures to give it a bit more spunk. The design is somewhat lacking a coherent theme, but Blue Torito is still a solid, bright, and comfortable choice, with access to a resident-only pool and terrace.

An enviable structure with high ceilings and big windows is filled with custom-made furniture that leaves plenty of space to move around. We loved the use of space that puts desks, chairs and bold art pieces in unexpected places – against all odds, it works.

The Porcelain Penguin

Boasting a privileged location on Madrid’s famous Gran Vía, this elegant apartment puts countless of the city’s most famous sights on your doorstep. It’s not just its incredibly central locale that caught our eye, however. Plasterwork ceilings, marble detailing and a whopping eleven Juliet balconies make this pad stand out from the crowd. Beautifully dressed bedrooms with bespoke wallpaper add to the luxe feeling here too. And did we mention the en-suite’s Turkish-style sauna shower? Of course, being in the beating heart of the capital means noise is to be expected. But we think it’s a small price to pay for a home as striking as this one.
