What this apartment may lack in size, it makes up for in location. It’s an ideal base for a couple or solo traveller – and for those in Madrid on business, the desk will be a welcome bonus. With a sofa bed for two extra guests, it works nicely for families who are happy to share their space, too. The kitchen and bathroom are both on the small side, but you’ll find all the key ingredients for a comfortable stay here. Locally, culture abounds with a plethora of museums nearby, or El Retiro Park for a stroll or morning jog.

Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

This is an elaborate home that impresses with the broad strokes as well as fine ones. An enviable structure with high ceilings and big windows is filled with custom-made furniture that leaves plenty of space to move around. We loved the use of space that puts desks, chairs and bold art pieces in unexpected places – against all odds, it works.

In the historic centre of Madrid, this pristine apartment puts you within striking distance of the main plazas and shopping streets of the Spanish capital. The famous Plaza Mayor is a seven-minute walk, considered the beating heart of Madrid and Opera Square is five minutes away on foot. In the surrounding streets, you’ve got myriad tapas joints, wine bars and fine-dining restaurants to fill your evenings. 

This apartment’s historic building is in keeping with its pretty surroundings. An avant-garde-style entrance hall greets you on arrival and just beyond this, the living room is big and bright, courtesy of classic-style windows. There’s dining for the whole group around the antique oak table and the living area is decked out with all mod cons, including a PS4, for evenings in. Should you need to work remotely, the dedicated office room has video calls covered.

Bright and contemporary, we think this open-plan studio is perfect for a solo traveller or a couple craving a stay in Madrid. With a statue of King Philip III in the middle, Madrid’s majestic 16th-century Plaza Mayor truly is a spot for royalty. While these days it’s more about fabulous alfresco drinking and dining spots, as well as festivals and markets, it’s still pretty incredible to be able to stay in a flat on this iconic plaza. Let the doorman greet you and help take your luggage up to the third floor. Your host is here to help. They’re keen to offer their recommendations for restaurants, events, and the best local shops. If you’re staying a while, there’s even a complimentary welcome package to make your stay extra special. Of course the first thing you’ll notice inside is the fantastic view of the square – you’ve got more than one balconette at the French windows for that. Another gorgeous feature is the original wooden timber beams on the walls, a beautiful contrast to the modern look and feel of the decor. And if you do ever tire of being right in the city centre, take a twenty-minute walk to El Retiro Park. Find lush green spaces and a boating lake where you can while away the afternoon.

Blue Torito is a chilled-out home located in one of the liveliest parts of Madrid. Even though it sports a gentle colour palette, it uses patterns and textures to give it a bit more spunk. From woven carpets to the textured headboards, it's apparent that the hosts like playing with details. The design is somewhat lacking a coherent theme, but Blue Torito is still a solid, bright, and comfortable choice, with access to a resident-only pool and terrace.

The Spy's opulent details, like the stained glass windows and purple velvet dining chairs, ooze character. If you love a good view, this plant filled balcony comes with binoculars to get a better look across the Chueca rooftops. The photos don’t do the master bedroom justice – we can’t get enough of its beautiful tiled floor, and the walk-in wardrobe is an added bonus. The host must be a bit of a neat freak – this is one of the cleanest homes we’ve seen.

Opposite the iconic bullfighting ring, Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, this home has an enviable location. It's extremely well-connected to public transport links and plenty of traditional tapas spots are within walking distance. Some of the furniture is a little dated and the touristic photography won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it still has plenty of strengths. Recently renovated, everything works perfectly. The wifi is speedy, the parquet flooring is immaculate, and we loved the little terrace – a sweet place to enjoy breakfast before heading out to explore the city.

The natural daylight streams into this contemporary home, with crisp white walls and delicate decor. The windows are positioned on the walls to provide plenty of light that flows into every corner of the living space. Live in style as you go about your daily tasks, whether you're cooking up a delicious brunch in the spacious wooden kitchen, or simply putting your feet up in the living room as you read a new book taken off one of the bookshelves. 

Even walking up the stairs grants you luxury, adorned with a beautiful feature piece as you make your way to the minimalistic yet chic bedrooms. If you wish to catch up with emails, there's a handy workspace for all of your remote work needs, followed by enjoying an energising cup of coffee in the courtyard under the shade of the verdant plants. On sunny days recline on the sun lounger and relax to the sound of birdsong, or set up around the outdoor table for an alfresco meal. 

Head out to explore the city of Madrid with plenty of eateries and bars available. Discover hidden gems and browse the many shops on offer throughout. There's a charming park named Fuente del Berro Park for relaxing picnics, or the Museo Nacional del Prado which houses plenty of amazing art to admire.

In the middle of Salamanca, and with El Retiro park at the end of the road, White Cardinal is in a great location for exploring Madrid and doing some high-end shopping.  It’s a simple flat, without much flash, but it’s comfortable, and the kitchen is very well equipped, particularly for a space of its size. The windows face an internal courtyard, which is both a blessing and a curse – a bit of natural light is sacrificed, but it also means that there isn’t as much noise as if the street were directly below.

This bright and welcoming apartment is small but perfectly formed. We love the charm of the exposed wooden beams in this cosy home – it’s a delightful space to return to after busy days of sightseeing. And you’ll be able to explore easily from this convenient setting – Plaza Major is just a short walk away. Puerta de Toledo metro station is nearby too, making seeing further-afield sights as easy as can be.

Angela, the host, actually used to live in this apartment when she was a kid. She later inherited it from her father. It was empty for a while, but then she decided to refurbish it with the aid of her husband and daughter (who are both architects), the result being a rustic-meets-Scandinavian-style home of our dreams. It's impossible to find fault with the design – it’s truly the stuff that interior design magazines are made of. Set against Malasaña, the location is also wonderful, with concept stores, independent eateries and coffee shops on your doorstep.

Bright and comfortable, this apartment in Madrid’s Chueca neighbourhood offers a centrally located base from which to explore the city’s sights with ease. Step into the open-plan living area to be met with a laid-back space that invites ample socialising on its sofas and chairs as the Spanish wine and conversations flow, or around the dining table for celebratory meals when you’re not out sampling the local tapas scene. With a pair of simple yet comfy bedrooms, two sofa beds for flexible sleeping arrangements and relaxing rainfall showers to boot, you’ve got everything you need for a carefree stay. 

When it comes to going out and exploring, you’ve got a wealth of cultural and historic sights from which to choose nearby. Ten minutes from the alfresco drinking spots of Plaza Mayor, and just over fifteen from the lush greenery of the Parque de El Retiro, this apartment is a wonderful base in Madrid. Despite being so close to main attractions and located among the most vibrant streets, it’s a space where you can relax. This apartment is classy, colourful, and comfortable. The host has taken it upon themself to create a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city, curating an eclectic look with antiques and flea-market finds. We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. Rest up well, because you’ve got some exploring to do the next morning – the three galleries of the Art Walk are all less than fifteen minutes away.

Combining the cosy comforts of a home with all the amenities of a hotel, this sleek apartment is a delightful escape. The kitchen is modern and bright, with a huge island that makes cooking a dream. After a busy afternoon exploring, we loved planting ourselves on the barstools, sipping sangria and nibbling on tapas. In the living room, a glossy wood floor and wicker accents add touches of warmth, while the French doors open onto a small Juliet balcony that overlooks leafy Calle del Almirante. The bedroom has a second Juliet balcony – this one looks onto the communal courtyard – as well as a sumptuous bed and en-suite bathroom. Underfloor heating and lush rainfall showers round out the amenities, and with daily cleaning included, you'll always come home to a sparkling flat. We also loved the location – it's a residential neighbourhood bursting with Madrid character, upscale restaurants, chic bars and independent shops. For a night on the town, buzzing Chueca is a five-minute walk and has a charming array of sidewalk cafes, trendy eateries and lively nightlife. Five minutes in the other direction is Recoletos Station, so zipping around the rest of Madrid is a breeze.

Equal parts bohemian, artsy and elegant, the living area is bathed in light thanks to the stunning arched stained glass window that opens up in three parts to reveal views of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores church across the street. Further light flows in from the glass doors leading out onto a private rooftop terrace with incredible views over Madrid’s skyline. Whether you start mornings here over fresh coffee and pastries or end the night with a celebratory Sangria, you’ll love feasting on the wide-sweeping views and watching the hustle and bustle below from your privileged seventh-floor vantage point. 
 
Back in the living room, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Kick back on the stylish Mies Van der Rohe chair with one of the countless books on the shelves or make yourself comfortable as you listen to some vinyl from the host’s extensive collection. In the evenings, gather around the grand dining table for a celebratory soirée, then retreat to the tropical-inspired main bedroom for a blissful night’s sleep. With a children’s bed in the second bedroom as well as plenty of toys and games, this is the perfect spot for families, while the jazzy decor, vinyl collection, DVDs and stacked shelves will keep adults wonderfully happy too.
 
When it comes to exploring, your Chamberí neighbourhood offers a relaxed atmosphere away from the tourist crowds, with an abundance of tapas bars and restaurants frequented by locals. Elsewhere, the ​​Sorolla Museum is a seventeen-minute walk, bustling Gran Vía is an eighteen-minute stroll, while the Royal Palace of Madrid is twenty-five minutes away on foot. 
 


The Rohean

Bright and thoughtfully designed, this charming apartment borders the luscious gardens of Real Jardín Botánico and is moments away from Caixa Forum’s vertical growing wall and suspended architecture. This elegant home provides an idyllic base for a family or group of friends seeking a calm retreat with cultural hotspots on the doorstep.

We knew that, if the towering wooden front door with pretty cast iron rosettes was anything to go by, this home would be hiding away some pretty impressive features. From the elegant archway to the hand-painted floral panels, the sweet antique toy horse to the immaculately-tiled kitchen – it's a real gem. There’s a tranquil ambience here, which invites you to wind down in the cosy living space whilst the central dining table insists on a homemade tapas spread for a memorable night with your loved ones. 

The surrounding streets are packed with a host of options. Mornings can be best spent altogether walking around El Retiro Park, just a twelve-minute walk away. When it comes to lunch, there’s a whirlwind of culinary offerings so take your pick - a meat-centred affair at Sala de Despiece or hard-hitting small plates at Tripea’s open kitchen in ​​Mercado de Vallehermoso. After your fill, contemplate the artworks in Prado Museum or pop into the boutiques that line the Golden Mile.

El Caballito

A lush cinema room is a rarity in any city and a first for us in Madrid. Due to the cosy nature of Cinemateca (and a vast selection of movies to watch), we wouldn't recommend it to someone with a big bucket list of things to see in Madrid – we suspect you'll be tempted to stay in most nights. But if you do venture out, you'll find yourself in only minutes away from Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol, which will make sightseeing pleasant and effortless. Did we mention that the master bedroom has a massage bath? We're pretty sure this is one of our favourites. 

Cinemateca

Shifting Gears has clearly been designed by someone with an eye for interiors. Even though the footprint is pretty small, the space has been manipulated cleverly to make it feel much bigger. Some of the design is more what you’d expect to find in Copenhagen than in Madrid (the wall-mounted bike feels like a particular candidate for an Instagram post). There’s even a balcony, which although too small for socialising, has a lovely view out over La Latina.


Shifting Gears

A strategic location in Chueca is the first of many features that set this crisp and modern home apart from the rest. Sightseeing is effortless when you’re within a twenty-minute walk of the city centre. The scenic views of Circulo de Bellas Artes are closer still at just a ten-minute stroll away. What’s more, you’re in the heart of Madrid’s LGBTQ+ district where you’ll find vibrant bars, cosy eateries and historic museums. Inside your apartment, rooms finished in a variety of patterns work together in harmony to create a dynamic visual experience. The living space is supremely comfortable with its soothing neutral palette and squashy sofas. Throw in a huge en-suite master bathroom and a sociable kitchen, and you have a winner.

Step inside to find a large open-plan living and dining space, with a comfy sofa, an elegant dining table and a modern, well-equipped kitchen. We love the pale tones and plush furnishings, inviting you to make yourself right at home. 

Head upstairs to find two lovely bedrooms, each carrying the promise of sweet dreams and restful sleep. Factor in the sleek bathrooms and we think there’s everything here to make your stay a relaxing one.

Equidistant to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor, The Sun and Stone is perfectly located for those who want to explore Madrid on foot. This home is a typically modern city affair with a minimalist aesthetic and lots of natural light. The thing we liked most about The Sun and Stone is that it's been designed with the guest in mind. The kitchen island is great for socialising, there's ample storage space the communal areas are both inviting and comfortable – basically, an all-rounder.

Style, comfort and spectacular proportions meet at this impressive home in Chueca. Decked out with trendy vintage furniture and striking artworks, the ground-floor apartment is a masterful demonstration of how to fill large spaces. The main living area boasts high ceilings and four French doors that fill it with light – with separate lounging and dining areas, this is likely where you'll spend most of your time.

The kitchen has been given a modern upgrade, fitted with sleek white units and blue-tiled floors. Whip up quick breakfasts to serve at the breakfast bar, and spend sunny evenings trying your hand at Spanish cooking with the double doors thrown open. There's also a separate office with an antique desk, ideal for those hard-working guests who can't quite leave work at home.

Sitting in one of Madrid's liveliest neighbourhoods, this pad is steps away from an eclectic assortment of restaurants and bars that spill onto the pavements. Stock up on fresh produce at the San Antón and Plaza del Dos markets, and venture over to the art triangle – the Prado is just fifteen-minutes – for a culture-filled afternoon.

Ideal for couples, small families and solo travellers who don’t want to be in the thick of things in Madrid, this apartment is in a residential area. It’s not far from the action – you need only walk a minute or two to reach Chamartín station and can be in the centre of the city in no time – but it’s nice and quiet. There’s a desk in the bedroom, too, so this is a good option for those in town for business. The apartment is bright and welcoming, and you’ll have access to shared facilities including a heated swimming pool, sauna, and gym.

A smarter, more sophisticated home in this sought-after part of Salamanca, you're unlikely to find. Set in a beautifully renovated period building, it comes with 19th Century high ceilings, tall windows and Juliet balconies, but also with a generous helping of modern glamour. Think chic furnishings, gorgeous wood floors and a striking flame effect fire built into panelling in the living room wall. 

We love the flow here, with a spacious, sociable living room moving through to a dining area with a sleek, contemporary kitchen off it. There's everything you'll need to cook special meals at home and views out over the street from one side and over the pretty, internal courtyard to the other. Two big bedrooms and bathrooms offer enough space for a group of up six, and it's perfect for a family or a group of friends here to experience this beautiful city.

And have we mentioned the added bonuses in this building? Grab a bottle of wine in the evening and head up to the lovely shared roof deck, or spend the afternoon bobbing around in the communal rooftop pool. There's even a fitness room if you're feeling inspired.

When we go to some places, it’s obvious that they are destined to be Plum homes. Such is the case with Cape Route. It’s a lovely flat, with an elegant aesthetic that never feels too over the top. It’s also practical – the kitchen in particular is well-equipped and seems like it could handle everything. Outside the flat is just as good – the building is newly renovated, with twenty-four-hour security (and a very cute communal courtyard), and you’re right on the border of Salamanca and Chueca, so there’s plenty to do.


Cape Route

Get the most of your Madrid trip with a stay at this lovely apartment nestled rather conveniently in the very heart of the Spanish capital. But the location is far from this home’s only high point – in fact, we think as soon as you enter, you’ll fall under the spell of this place. 

Or perhaps, even before – arrive to be welcomed by the building’s opulent façade dating to the 1880s. Inside, it’s all about style and comfort. We love the high ceilings, light-filled interiors and gorgeous furnishings. The open-plan living and dining area is perfect for kicking back at the end of a long day of exploring. Snuggle up on the sofa or gather at the dining table for a delicious feast you can easily rustle up in the modern kitchen. 

A night of restful sleep will find you in one of the two plush bedrooms, including one with an en-suite bathroom. Wake up feeling restored and ready for more exciting adventures – with the Royal Palace and all the historic sights on your doorstep, you won’t have to venture far to sample Madrid at its finest. 

The Maja 

Several of the original architectural elements in Strength of Spirit have been preserved, so that the flat keeps some character and a sense of place, and this pays off. It might seem like a slightly nebulous point, but the fact that it feels Madrileño makes the guest feel at ease – there’s nothing jarring about the space. There are a few more modern features though, like the sleek, black kitchen, which adds a bit of variety, but these feel a bit beside the point. There’s nothing wrong with them, but nor do they add a tonne.


Strength of Spirit

Home to stately buildings, tree-lined streets and some of the best shopping and dining in Madrid, swanky Salamanca is a pretty impressive neighbourhood to call home. Museums, metro stops, galleries and the gorgeous Parque de El Retiro are all within easy reach of this modern apartment, which is smack dab in the heart of this lively area.

Inside, this contemporary pad has everything you need to make yourself at home after a day filled with shopping and sightseeing in the Spanish sun. Kick back on the cosy sectional sofa with a glass of Cava and rest weary legs, or head straight to the stylish bedroom for some well-deserved shut-eye. Although it's small, the innovative design makes the most of the space – a small desk is tucked into the bookshelf, built-in appliances in the kitchen keep everything sleek and tidy and the coffee table can become a four-seater dining table if needed. Every room is filled with light and features vibrant artwork, white-washed walls and minimal decor – we think it's the perfect blend of comfort and style.

You'll be in good company with a stay at this elegant apartment, overlooking one of Madrid's most iconic baroque churches and with the emblematic Royal Palace just around the corner. With so many hotspots on your doorstep, it's no surprise this place is slap bang in Madrid's Centro district. Dive into its history-rich streets dotted with royal palaces and uncover leafy plazas at every turn – there's a sunny spot at an outdoor cafe waiting just for you when thoughts turn to a crisp glass of vino and tapas plates. More of a sweet tooth? Then the famed Chocolatería San Ginés for churros with chocolate is dangerously close, just a five-minute stroll away.

Back home, behind the building's opulent 1880s façade, a crisp, contemporary home awaits. Flanked by Juliet balcony doors opening onto the neighbouring Iglesia de San Nicolás, natural daylight bounces off the bleached wood floors right up to those high ceilings to glorious effect. Located in the heart of Chueca, with its authentic array of bars, cafes, and plazas, this apartment is well-situated for exploring Madrid’s iconic sights. Madrid is easily explored on foot, but should you wish to hop on the metro, Noviciado and Tribunal are a few steps away. The interiors are fairly simple, though perfectly practical for a city stay. There’s a balcony for admiring the streets below, though there’s no seating out here. And while it may feel a little cramped with three guests, it’s a great option should you need flexibility.

This bright and colourful home boasts high-quality materials, bursts of colour in all the right places and plenty of space to play around with. Your hosts have expertly created a place that feels like home without compromising on contemporary design. We loved the funky patterned rugs and stylish furnishings. The sleek, no-fuss kitchen is equipped for light breakfasts or quick lunches – the perfect setup for adventurous types who are always on the go. When you’re ready and raring to explore, Madrid’s best bits are within easy reach of your doorstep. It’s a ten-minute walk to the leafy El Retiro Park and a little over five to the famous Gran Vía, where shops, theatres, bars and restaurants await. For trips further afield, the Chueca metro station is just 400 metres down the road.

Grey Harlequin

Situated in the San Diego neighbourhood, this apartment is ideal for those who want peace and quiet away from the thrum of central Madrid. Parking is available for an additional fee, or if you'd prefer to stick to public transport, there are bus routes nearby. The place is simple, functional and comfortable, guaranteeding a stress-free break. While a group of four is accomodated for, space is limited, especially in the living area and when the sofa bed is in use.

This holiday home is a great base for families or groups of friends who don’t mind being a little further outside of Madrid. When you want to see the sights, you can walk to the Franco Rodriguez metro stop, so seeing the likes of El Retiro and Puerta del Sol is easy enough – though you’ll be staying far away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You’ll have a patio with a small private pool to cool off in, and an alfresco dining area. Four guests will be sleeping on sofa beds, which isn’t the most private setup so is probably better suited to children sharing with their parents.
