The peaceful outdoor space is undoubtedly a highlight. On hot days – thanks to the Costa del Sol climate – you can cool off in the pool and dry off on one of the surrounding loungers, all whilst soaking up the impressive landscape vistas. Head to the shared tennis courts to admire the arched architecture – they’re worth visiting even if tennis isn’t your forte. As evening comes around, cook up a smoky tapas feast on the barbecue for your loved ones and make the most of the stunning scenery.

When you head inside, you won't be disappointed. The open layout makes the interior feel bright and expansive, while there's an eclectic array of original features dotted about the place that adds a good dose of authentic character. As well as looking the part, it's also really rather cosy – come evening time, why not treat yourself to a soak in the bath before snuggling up next to the fireplace with a glass of Rioja?

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, the golden sands of Playa de la Caleta de Vélez are easy to reach in the car, while you can head into the mountains for unforgettable nature walks. If you’re in the mood for a day trip, the centre of Malaga will take you under an hour to get to when you fancy a day packed full of museums and historic architecture.

You’re practically at cloud height, up at this glorious hilltop location. The Andalucian hills unfurl before you like a map, and each element of this home has been designed to make the most of that stunning panorama. The rustic stone patio is crowned with a deep blue swimming pool, gazing out over the mountains speckled with sugarcube towns. Fire up the Green Egg barbecue for an alfresco feast in the fresh mountain air, or head inside to the dining room with its picture-frame window looking out over the view.

As soon as you arrive, you’re greeted by a magnificent view of the peak of Maroma from the leafy courtyard. 

You might spend your days swimming in the pool and soaking up the sunshine in the gardens, which are filled with almond trees, olive groves, and a vineyard. Or perhaps you’ll sit under the shade of a pergola to read, accompanied only by the soothing sound of the fountain trickling in the courtyard. To take your relaxation to the next level, you might book an on-site massage – it’s almost impossible to leave here without feeling entirely blissed out.

We love the uncluttered feel of the interior here – think white walls and sleek Swedish furniture – but it’s the outside space that really stands out. Boasting lush communal gardens and a secluded private terrace, this is the perfect place to soak up the Spanish sun and unwind with all your favourite people. 

Start your morning with a dip in the dreamy infinity pool then settle in for a day of relaxation on the veranda. When it’s time to eat, grab a bite at one of the city’s leading restaurants – paella, anyone? – or rustle up a delicious home-cooked meal in the well-stocked kitchen. 

If you fancy getting out and about, there’s plenty to keep you occupied in Nerja’s historic centre, but if we were you, we’d be tempted to stay put and make the most of the view. Only a five-minute stroll to the sea – so close, you can just glimpse it from the balcony – this apartment's breezy, open-plan feel makes it a great base for exploring Rincón de la Victoria. Although this flat has a very sleek, contemporary design, it still has plenty of soul – we particularly love the traditional patterned kitchen tiles, vivid pops of colour on the cushy throw pillows and the bright, light-filled living space. Our favourite spot is the sun-kissed balcony. It's where you can start your day off with coffee while watching the neighbourhood wake up and end your evening with a glass of sangria as the tantalising sun goes down beyond the apartment block.

When you fancy exploring, the village has multiple attractions nearby, including golf and shopping, as well as a long sandy beach ideal for sprawling underneath clear blue skies. Hire bikes and go adventuring along the lively seafront with its array of bars and restaurants or, for a bit more buzz, make the twenty-five-minute drive to Málaga – we think it's perfect for a day trip.

The private balcony is equipped with an awning (a welcome addition for when the sun becomes a bit much) and you’re only 200 metres or so from Playa Torrecilla. If you’d like to make your stay that little bit more special, your host provides a bottle of champagne as an optional add-on.

It’s what we love most about this home and you can almost feel the waves washing a sense of calm over you. With a saltwater infinity pool and a delightful area for alfresco dining, you have plentiful options when it comes to finding somewhere to enjoy those vistas. 

Nestled in the hills of Málaga, you have the best of both worlds – Spanish countryside and the sea nearby. Characterised by the wash of terracotta, this home is contemporary with a traditional Spanish feel. This apartment sits in a gated community at the heart of Axarquia. It’s in the first line from the beach, so you can admire sea views and stroll to the soft sand in no time. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. You’ll have access to the communal salt-water swimming pool, from which you can gaze out to sea as you float in the sunshine. There’s a communal gym, too, ideal for those keen to keep up their routine. We recommend bringing a car so you can drive twenty-five minutes to Malaga to see the sights.

In the picturesque coastal town of Nerja, this contemporary villa is tucked away on a cul-de-sac. Featuring a wrap-around balcony and private garden, there are plenty of cosy corners from which to enjoy the sunshine, our favourite being the private pool. We love that you don’t need a car here, as the centre of Nerja is just a fifteen-minute walk away. A stroll in the opposite direction will take you to Playa de Burriana, a long stretch of sandy beach known as the area’s top spot for swimming. You'll also find watersports and beach volleyball here if you're looking for ways to keep the kids entertained.

This stunning Andalusian villa is the perfect getaway for a holiday with your loved ones. The interior of the home is very nicely designed, but it’s the exterior we’re most enthusiastic about. With an infinity pool, ping-pong table and several lovely terraces (including a rooftop one) we don’t blame you if you’d like to spend all your time here. If you want the best of both – the beach is a thirty-minute walk away and the beautiful cities of Málaga and Granada are roughly an hour’s drive down the road.

Sitting at 550m above sea level, this stunning mountain refuge offers an enviable bird's-eye view over soaring landscapes and verdant valleys. The peaks of the Sierra Tejeda command the vista to the east while staring southwards will lead your eye all the way to the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea. 

Your hosts first discovered this hidden gem back in 2015. Enchanted by the setting, they spent months tracking down the home's original owners, followed by a couple of years creating this idyllic Ibiza-inspired escape. Thanks to their background in interior design, the inside is gorgeous, with terracotta-tiled floors, eye-catching artwork and enchanting trinkets lining the shelves. While it would've been easy to copy and paste similar designs throughout all five bedrooms, they've gone the extra mile to provide each one with a unique personality.

Distinctively Moorish in appearance, Frigiliana is home to a 17th century Archaeological Museum, the Santa Fiora botanical gardens and as well as narrow, winding, cobblestone streets full of small shops, tapas bars and restaurants. Why not sample some local seafood –Pescaito frito and molletes or pick up some supplies for a family picnic post wild swim in the Higueron river.   


Tranquility Itself

Typically Andalusian with whitewashed stone and red roof tiles, this home in Torrox is pretty as a picture. Although it can’t quite compare to the breathtaking vistas of the rolling hills of Málaga, and the Mediterranean beyond, you can get the best of both views by sitting out on the terrace. Covered, the patio also offers a welcome break from the sun whilst still enjoying the mild heat the region is known for. If you’re up for a swim, duck out through the arch and make a splash into the pool whilst the food is grilling away on the barbecue. 

Rustic and homely inside, you might retreat to one of the bedrooms for a nap after enjoying a Mediterranean feast. Wake up to the aroma of freshly-brewed coffee and enjoy it in the shade of the umbrella out by the patio furniture.

Days away can be spent at any of the two closest beaches – both are only a short drive away – or take a road trip and explore more of Costa del Sol and Málaga. Golfing enthusiasts can also head to the nearest course and anyone wanting to get up close and personal with the native foliage might check out the many hiking trails around the area.

There's a market held every Tuesday, plus a myriad of delicious eateries serving up classic Spanish cuisine. The gorgeous Balcón de Europa is a can't-miss – lined with swaying palm trees and built on the foundations of an old fort, the panoramic views from this lookout are absolutely incredible. With boutiques, bars and beaches aplenty, there'll never be a dull day in paradise.

We never underestimate the power of a killer view – and neither did the smart developer responsible for dreaming up this dazzling-new and oh-so-intimate apartment complex. From its hillside perch above the coastal towns of Nerja and Torrox Costa, the sea and mountain vistas are jaw-dropping from every angle, inside and out. And just imagine the panoramas at dusk as the sun dips into the horizon.

Designed to make the very most of alfresco living, the expansive private balcony running the entire length of the apartment is the spot to savour morning coffees and sundowners (your host can organise champagne on ice to be delivered). While that stylish, inviting shared pool is all about sun-worshipping sessions and cooling dips. And you can always squeeze in a workout in the shared gym should you fancy upping the ante.

When you can bear to part with the seascapes, you’ll find you’re closer to the action than you think. The chic coastal town of Nerja, with its ten miles of sandy shores and wander-worthy Old Town, is a fine place to start and just a short drive away. Dive into its charming, cobbled streets and discover authentic tapas bars and restaurants aplenty for plates of Jamon Iberico and jugs of Sangria, just like you imagined.

Compact yet well-equipped, you’ll find this apartment tucked between Torrox Costa and Nerja. With sea views from the private balcony and communal swimming pool, there’s ample opportunity to soak up the vistas and work on your tan at the same time, while for days on the coast, you’re spoilt for choice with the beaches of Playa Vilches, Calaceite, and Playazo all within two kilometres. We’d recommend hiring a car to get to the nearby towns, handy, then, that this home also has a private garage – and for those fitness fanatics, there’s an on-site gym too. 

Wicker & Waves

High in the Andalusian hills, this home boasts fantastic views across the mountains. Access is via a dirt road, so a car is a must, but the secluded area and rural scenery make the steep, winding trek worth it. The one downside of this location is the lack of a nearby beach – you'd have to drive about 45 kilometres to reach the coast – but a private pool will do the job when you fancy a dip. The design is a bit more rustic than we'd like, but it's roomy inside and out. That said, as there are just two bathrooms between all ten guests and only room for six around the dining tables, we suggest a lower occupancy here.

Gazing at the Horizon

Located in the charming town of Frigiliana, this villa offers stunning views of the Sierras Almijara Natural Park and the coast. The scenery is best enjoyed from the garden, where you’ll find a private swimming pool, a Balinese-style sun bed, and a fully-equipped outdoor kitchen for alfresco meals. While the rural location makes for a peaceful retreat, you’ll need to rent a car if you’re keen to explore the local area. With an array of beautiful beaches, villages and cities within driving distance, you won’t be short of things to see and do here. 

Peace, Sunshine & Pines

Surrounded by terraced gardens linked by charming paved pathways and stone walls, the outdoor space at this home on the Costa del Sol is a delight. Follow the brick bridge over the pond to reach two hanging basket chairs, which you can swing in while admiring the view over Frigiliana, known as the prettiest village in Andalucia. There’s also an outdoor kitchen with a coal barbecue for alfresco meals, and two dining areas on the terraced balconies. After a swim in the pool, relax with a book on the daybed. Children will be kept busy too, thanks to a small garden house, hammock and table tennis.
