In the picturesque coastal town of Nerja, this contemporary villa is tucked away on a cul-de-sac. Featuring a wrap-around balcony and private garden, there are plenty of cosy corners from which to enjoy the sunshine, our favourite being the private pool. We love that you don’t need a car here, as the centre of Nerja is just a fifteen-minute walk away. A stroll in the opposite direction will take you to Playa de Burriana, a long stretch of sandy beach known as the area’s top spot for swimming. You'll also find watersports and beach volleyball here if you're looking for ways to keep the kids entertained.

In one direction, you’ve got the meandering trails of the Sierras de Tejeda
Mountains and in the other, it’s a leisurely walk to Nerja’s beachfront. Simplicity is the watchword, inside and out. The backyard is dominated by a shimmering swimming pool – as it should be in the southern Spanish heat. The huge, open-plan kitchen, living and dining room is sleek, if a little sparse – a place for folk that prefer clear surfaces, no clutter and plenty of sunlight streaming in through walls of glass. Up on the first floor, a balcony looks out over the sea.

An apartment, in the heart of Nerja, with a private heated pool? Count us in. Inside, there’s a kitchen with all the accoutrements for home cooking and an en-suite bedroom with access to the furnished terrace. While this home can sleep four guests, two will be on the sofa bed in the living area, which will compromise any social space. If exploring is on the itinerary, the Balcón de Europa viewpoint and Carabeillo Beach are within easy walking distance of your doorstep.

There’s no doubt this is one of Nerja’s most impressive sea-grazing apartments. With a Scandi-luxe interior and compelling panoramic views all the way across the Mediterranean, this apartment is a sumptuous place to call home. Get set to escape reality and embrace all things coastal as you retreat to this sensational Malagan oasis.

Inside, it's a vision of its own, with minimal design elements and Spanish-influenced furnishings. Lounging and dining in this space feels cosy and opulent – a linen sofa and marble coffee tables are accompanied by considered touches whilst the sleek wooden table is positioned under the lantern mood lights – allowing you to create your perfect ambience. We particularly love the industrial accents – the iron-framed bedroom is a uniquely cool design feature. We can't speak about this home and not mention the views, however. While some of the interiors may be a little dated, there's plenty of room across its three floors to spread out. There's even a cute playroom for the kids, so it's a great option for families. But the best part of all is the stand-out location. It's just a short walk from Burriana Beach, known for its long coastline, crystal-clear waters and collection of fantastic restaurants, bars and amenities that line the sands.

Three levels of comfort await at this home in the heart of Nerja. It won't suit guests who struggle with stairs, but it's bound to be a hit for those who don't mind multi-floor living. Head up to the top-floor terrace to take advantage of the private plunge pool and alfresco dining area. We're big fans of the second kitchen on this level, which makes it easy to whip up a meal without having to clamber up and down. A few of the bedrooms are on the smaller side – and they're all on the first floor – but two have desks for remote working. Location-wise, Playa Burriana and the ever-popular Balcón De Europa are just twenty minutes away on foot.

We love the earthy, boho vibe of this Nerja home, but the real selling point is definitely the outside space. There are different alfresco spots to choose from, including a tiled pool terrace, a dining area, and a suntrap balcony shared between the first-floor bedrooms. You’ll definitely be able to work on your tan here. The nearest sandy beach is 800 metres away, so if you tire of the swimming pool you don’t have to travel far for a dip.

The gorgeous Balcón de Europa is a can't-miss – lined with swaying palm trees and built on the foundations of an old fort, the panoramic views from this lookout are absolutely incredible. With boutiques, bars and beaches aplenty, there'll never be a dull day in paradise.

In this hilly residential district, sea views are of course as readily available as the coast. However, the VIP vibe of this neighbourhood would hardly feel out of place in the Hollywood Hills. A shining white exterior trimmed with balconies and chrome railings creates an almost yacht-like appearance – especially when you check it out from the back. Your courtyard has a glistening private pool, parasols, and sun loungers to complete the look of the lower deck.

A five-minute drive from Nerja’s centre, this villa will appeal to traditionalists. It’s a classic Spanish-style home in a residential area so it won’t appeal to everyone, but we think it’s got charm in abundance. Only two of the bedrooms have sea views, so you and your guests will have to fight it out, but there’s plenty of outside space for everyone to enjoy – gourmands will enjoy the outdoor kitchen. There’s a bakery and mini market within walking distance, but hiring a car to see more of the area would be a good idea.

 This well-designed villa in Nerja is a great place to share with a large family or a group of friends. The home is well-kept and boasts stunning views of the town and coast. It also features some nifty amenities, with the highlight being the pool, which is surrounded by a couple of terraces that lend themselves perfectly to alfresco meals. The villa’s convenient location means guests are within walking distance of several amenities, including supermarkets, a handful of restaurants and even the beach can be reached on foot within half an hour.

There are several areas for mingling here, outside and in, allowing you to be sociable and get some privacy in equal measure. It sits in a charming complex of red-roofed villas and apartments reminiscent of Andalucia’s shambling mountain villages. Plus, there’s a huge shared swimming pool, kids’ play area and shops and restaurants onsite.

What we love most about this apartment has to be the view from the private terrace. From the shaded dining table, you’ve got a fabulous panorama over the rooftops of Nerja to the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. There’s also a rattan set of sofa and chairs out here, perfect for a sundowner or two. Inside, it feels like an homage to traditional southern Spain with a cooling tiled floor, crisp white walls and an old, decorative fireplace in the living room. A brick archway separates the living and dining room from the full kitchen. Those that bag the main bedroom can enjoy direct access to the terrace.

Burriana Buzz

Not likely to run out of seating here, this beautiful Spanish villa has a patio with a private swimming pool, oriented to get the sunshine all day long. Stretch your legs out here or on a walk into town, where you can find restaurants and pavement cafes lining the cobbled streets. If a beach day is where you're happiest, then Burriana is only minutes away. Though the living room might be a little cramped for fourteen, the kitchen table can be pushed closer to the outdoor dining set to make it more sociable for the entire group.
