Spend your days wandering around museums and the El Tajo gorge before driving to Cueva de Gato to cool off in the natural river pools. If you're feeling peckish, there are plenty of authentic restaurants where you can sample tapas and sangria, but we highly recommend buying some fresh ingredients – Ronda is known for its delicious olives – and heading home to fire up the grill. The rustic outdoor kitchen makes preparing local dishes a dream, which are best enjoyed alfresco on the stone patio. Complete the meal with a Spanish dessert and a glass of wine while you watch the sunset over the city.

Found in a resort with a tropical vibe, this apartment caught our eye thanks to the fantastic surroundings. The home itself is simple but has everything you need for an extended stay – the terrace stood out to us in particular as a spot to get some privacy while still enjoying the sun. The large communal pools will be a real hit with the kids, and golf enthusiasts will be pleased to know there are two courses nearby. And if you want to hit the coast, Puerto Banús is just a short drive.

To call this split-level penthouse bright and modern is an understatement. The design is sleek, sure – and yes, natural light is all but guaranteed to spill through the floor-to-ceiling windows. But what turns an otherwise ordinary apartment into a tropical getaway are the two sun-kissed terraces. Between the bubbling Jacuzzi, cosy outdoor sofas and alfresco dining areas, you'll have plenty of spots to sit back with a cocktail and admire the views. In this rural haven, there is plenty of room to bask in the sun. The two single beds in one of the bedrooms make it ideal for bringing your children on vacation, especially with the sparkling pool in the backyard. Float on your back while gazing up at the blue sky; here's your reminder to wear sunscreen. The cottage's interior has a rustic motif and is large enough to accommodate a family.

Gather the family around the wooden table, which features a unique autumnal tree feature. Though this may slightly block your view while attempting to talk to your loved ones, you have to admit that it looks fantastic. While sipping a martini on the wooden roof area, listen to your children's laughter as they play in the pool.

We recommend renting a car when staying here due to the property's remote location. The nearest beach is about a twelve–minute drive away, and the restaurants and stores in the area are only accessible by vehicle, unless you like long walks. However, in a location like this with gorgeous views, is a long walk really a bad thing?
