We loved the industrial-chic interiors – it’s all poured concrete floors, exposed brick walls and reclaimed timber beams. After the plates are cleared, plan your itinerary at the dining table. We recommend starting with the Royal Palace, a mere ten-minute walk from your doorstep. If you’d like to stretch your legs a little further, it’s a thirty-minute stroll to El Retiro Park. Pause for a coffee on the buzzing Calle Cava Baja before picking a spot to bask in the sunshine beside El Retiro Lake.

This bright and comfortable apartment is just a stone’s throw from the Royal Palace of Madrid. The official residence of the Head of State is open to the public, so you can explore the spot where centuries of Spanish history took place. The apartment is also just in front of the Sabatini Gardens, and 100 metres from Príncipe Pio train station. Plaza de España is only a five-minute walk away, too. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, so things might feel a little crowded – you’re unlikely to be spending much time at home though.

Blending rustic charm with stylish modern accents, this home feels wonderfully Spanish. We love the exposed beamed ceilings and the wood floors, as well as the houseplants and colourful rug in the living area that add additional characterful flair. 
 
The bedroom is elegantly pared back, offering a comfortable night’s sleep, while the dining area invites celebratory homemade tapas feasts when you’re not out sampling the local dining scene. 
 
Our favourite spot, however, is the private balcony with its wide-sweeping views over the city’s rooftops. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast here while catching some morning rays or watch the sunset from your privileged position over an evening glass of Spanish wine. 
 
When you’re ready to venture out for some sightseeing, you’ll find Plaza Mayor less than a minute’s walk away, while bustling Puerta del Sol is a four-minute stroll from your door. Elsewhere, the Royal Palace of Madrid is a ten-minute walk, the famous Museo Nacional del Prado is an eighteen-minute stroll, while leafy El Retiro Park is just over twenty minutes away on foot.

You'll find this apartment in Argüelles, home to low-key tapas bars, art-house cinemas, and traditional eateries popular with students. Exploring is a breeze here. Ventura Rodriguez metro station is a short walk away, though you can also stroll to Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace in about twenty minutes. Back home, there's a practical yet cosy living space. The kitchen is well-appointed for rustling up light bites, while three bedrooms offer respite after a long day on your feet. If you're looking for a laid-back stay, this pad is a great choice.

What a fabulous location this refurbished apartment has – Puerta del Sol, one of the best-known squares in the city, is just a two-minute stroll away. Or, a five-minute walk will take you to one of Madrid's most famous streets, Gran Vía. Watch a production at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía or have lunch at one of its many eateries. Alternatively, the iconic Plaza del Dos de Mayo is a fifteen-minute wander. Here, you'll find plenty of bars, as well as a lively weekend market for fresh produce.

We love the French doors to the balcony – they allow so much light in, and the views are fantastic. This is an elaborate home that impresses with the broad strokes as well as fine ones. An enviable structure with high ceilings and big windows is filled with custom-made furniture that leaves plenty of space to move around. We loved the use of space that puts desks, chairs and bold art pieces in unexpected places – against all odds, it works.

We challenge you to find a prettier apartment overlooking the Royal Palace of Madrid. This place is a real showstopper, with twin Juliet balconies opening over Plaza de Oriente Gardens. Bold, bright and just downright beautiful, it's dripping in character thanks to ornate cornice, traditional shuttered windows and classical furnishing. A riot of elegant colours and patterns, it couldn't be further from modern minimalism if it tried.

Once you've arrived and stared out of the window for long enough to take it all in, choose between the two pretty bedrooms – one decorated in calming greens, the other in vibrant terracotta. There's a grand, open-plan living space to keep everything sociable, and a kitchen with everything you'll need for cooking at home. But we suspect you'll be eating out much of the time – it would be rude not to when surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city. And with most of the major attractions on your doorstep too, you'll have plenty to see and do.

It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

Here, you’re steps away from the city’s most popular tourist attractions, but far enough from the throngs of crowds.

Stepping inside, you’ll find a bright, minimalist interior that’ll suit any preference. Natural light billows through the patio doors, inviting you to enjoy your morning coffee from the Juliet balcony, watching daily life resume in the streets below. The Plaza de España right outside the flat is a great place to familiarise yourself with the city – go for a stroll, and soak up the atmosphere of this popular meeting place. Culture fans can take a five-minute walk to the Royal Palace of Madrid to soak up the sense of history, and enjoy a wander through the Jardines de Sabatini afterwards. And, when you get hungry, there's a large selection of nearby restaurants nearby, serving everything from traditional Spanish dishes to Korean meals and Peruvian fare.

Located in one of Madrid's most charming neighbourhoods, the Barrio de las Letras –  step outside and you'll discover terrific restaurants, trendy bars, and little boutiques. It is noisy, but you're in the heart of the action here. Wander over to El Retiro Park, perfect for getting away from the city with a picnic in the park, and a stroll around the art in the 19th Century Crystal Palace. Chueca, famous for its active nightlife and wonderful vintage tapas bars, is a great place to experience Spanish nightlife. Most importantly, before hitting the bars, seek out a quaint restaurant for delightful tapas. This is all achievable due to the transport links that you can easily tour the entire city with.

Equal parts bohemian, artsy and elegant, the living area is bathed in light thanks to the stunning arched stained glass window that opens up in three parts to reveal views of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores church across the street. Further light flows in from the glass doors leading out onto a private rooftop terrace with incredible views over Madrid’s skyline. Whether you start mornings here over fresh coffee and pastries or end the night with a celebratory Sangria, you’ll love feasting on the wide-sweeping views and watching the hustle and bustle below from your privileged seventh-floor vantage point. 
 
Back in the living room, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Kick back on the stylish Mies Van der Rohe chair with one of the countless books on the shelves or make yourself comfortable as you listen to some vinyl from the host’s extensive collection. When it comes to exploring, your Chamberí neighbourhood offers a relaxed atmosphere away from the tourist crowds, with an abundance of tapas bars and restaurants frequented by locals. The Narcisse is only a few minutes away from Calle Fuencarral, one of our favourite shopping streets in Madrid. To say that it's centrally located is an understatement, especially since this home is practically surrounded by Malasaña's finest quirky cafes and restaurants. Narcisse is an ambitious home – the golden details are risky but well-balanced with calmer tones, and the layout is (rightfully) focused on maximising the natural light, which mostly comes from the French doors. But in the end, this home won us over with the urban view.

This apartment is within walking distance of an array of attractions, such as Parque Madrid Rio, Casa de Campo, the Royal Palace and La Almudena Cathedral. Of course, there are plenty of dining options to discover in the area, too. The apartment has a desk if you need to catch up on emails and a well-equipped kitchen for making some tapas. We have to say, we love the main bedroom with its dressing room and en-suite. This home is a great choice whether you’re here for leisure or work.

Metropolitan Magic

Found in the heart of Madrid, only minutes away from the Royal Palace, the iconic Plaza Mayor, and the Catedral de la Almudena, this home charms with a maximalist approach. Expect gallery walls, a bold colour palette, and an enticing blend of old and new. 

The sleek kitchen might be compact, but with enough space to cobble a light breakfast together. Enjoy it at the striking marble dining table before setting off for a day out in the city. Explore the vibrance of the city – a trait it happily shares with the home – stopping off at cafes and restaurants for lunch when not appreciating the art at a gallery or jumping on public transport to get to another landmark. 

Return to the cosy sofa and fireplace for comfort after a day out, or retreat to your bedroom, where you can get comfortable with a cup of coffee and a good book. However, with the living space perfectly set up for socialising, why not pour a glass of wine, light the fire and break out the board games, chatting late into the morning hours?


The Maximalist

When you see as many flats as we do, you learn very quickly to tell which homes have been done up for convenience, and which are a labour of love. Toquilla clearly falls into the latter category. It’s been designed as a whole, with thought and attention put into the schemes, as well as the materials. We particularly liked the concrete pillars and the glass walls, neither of which are especially common in Madrid. The only real complaint we have is the fake plants – They’re understandable for the convenience, but really, most places would be better off without anything.


Toquilla

There are plenty of tourist attractions within walking distance of this home. Go for riverside walks at the Parque Madrid Rio nearby, or visit the zoo and amusement park at Casa de Campo. Other places of interest include the Royal Palace and La Almudena Cathedral. There are plenty of eateries to sample, too, or head back to this apartment and cook some tapas dishes. All in all, we'd say this home is ideal for a business professional, solo traveller or couple.

Sun-seekers will appreciate the outdoor space, with a shared swimming pool and communal gardens to relax in, while inside, you’ll find the building's fully equipped gym for morning workouts. The home itself is bright and stylish with balcony doors that open up and create a calming living space for the family to enjoy some quiet time or to socialise as a group. Nestled in the Chamberí neighbourhood, you'll find yourself just a stone's throw away from the vibrant Malasaña area and a leisurely ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía.

Ten minutes from the alfresco drinking spots of Plaza Mayor, and just over fifteen from the lush greenery of the Parque de El Retiro, this apartment is a wonderful base in Madrid. Despite being so close to main attractions and located among the most vibrant streets, it’s a space where you can relax. This apartment is classy, colourful, and comfortable. The host has taken it upon themself to create a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city, curating an eclectic look with antiques and flea-market finds. We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. Rest up well, because you’ve got some exploring to do the next morning – the three galleries of the Art Walk are all less than fifteen minutes away.

The Venetian

Situated a stone’s throw from Madrid’s Royal Palace and surrounded by the narrow streets of La Latina, this charming duplex apartment is the perfect place to base yourself while you’re exploring all the wonders that this city has to offer. 

From the cosy attic bedroom you’ll be able to admire the breathtaking views over the roofs of the old town, while the living area on the lower level invites you to kick off your shoes and relax after a long day of dashing about the city. We love the wooden ceiling, along with its beams and stylish light fixtures, adding to the warm and pleasant ambience. 

While this space is compact there is enough room to feel comfortable. You’ll be able to whip quick and delicious snacks in the well-equipped kitchenette and enjoy them at the elegant dining table. This can also serve as a great spot to catch up on any work you might have to do during your stay. 

Outside your cosy nest, you’ll find yourself right in the heart of Madrid, with most of its iconic sights within walking distance. If you feel like staying local, La Latina has got you covered with a wide range of dining and entertainment options.

This apartment in the Malasaña district of Madrid is a true sanctuary in the city. With plenty of style and a location in one of the most exciting areas of the capital, it's the perfect place to kick back and relax between your adventures. 

The pink-themed decor is chic without being too sugary sweet – think sorbet-coloured chairs and a soft, velour sofa. Uncork a bottle of Albariño wine and get comfortable after a busy day of sightseeing – you'll feel at home in no time at all. When you get hungry, you can whip up some of your favourite dishes in the kitchen to serve at the serene dining space. And, come evening, you can look forward to a fantastic night's sleep in one of the cosy bedrooms, complete with crisp white sheets. 

The surrounding streets are full of bakeries, quirky bars, and vintage clothing shops that are popular with local students and visiting tourists alike. When you want to do some sightseeing, take a fifteen-minute walk over to the Royal Palace, then visit Plaza Mayor, one of the city's most famous squares. And, if you want to travel further afield, simply hop on the subway at Noviciado station – it's just three minutes away from your front door.

As is common with any flat that is rented out all the time, there’s a lack of personality but the attention to detail, and generally pleasant, if simple, design help make the flat feel more homely.

Malasaña is a frequent traveller's favourite. An ever-changing landscape of artisan cafes and local galleries, it's a perfect start to an off-the-beaten-path holiday. In the Flow is a typical Malasaña resident – relaxed and bohemian, with a mixture of high-quality furnishings and flea-market knick-knacks that add to its charm. It might not be a great home if you're particularly tall (due to the slanting ceilings), but it's big, bright, and comfortable.

Seeking a stylish base in Madrid? This apartment is just the ticket. You'll find it near Chamberí, only a short walk from the metro connecting you to the best of the city.
