What a fabulous location this refurbished apartment has – Puerta del Sol, one of the best-known squares in the city, is just a two-minute stroll away. Or, a five-minute walk will take you to one of Madrid's most famous streets, Gran Vía. Watch a production at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía or have lunch at one of its many eateries. Alternatively, the iconic Plaza del Dos de Mayo is a fifteen-minute wander. Here, you'll find plenty of bars, as well as a lively weekend market for fresh produce.  

Take some goodies back to this elegant apartment and whip up a bocadillo de calamares (calamari sandwich) in the sleek, white kitchen and enjoy it at the dining table with its plush green velvet chairs. We love the French doors to the balcony – they allow so much light in, and the views are fantastic. Keen to be in the hustle and bustle? This apartment, just a ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía, may be a great choice. It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

We challenge you to find a prettier apartment overlooking the Royal Palace of Madrid. This place is a real showstopper, with twin Juliet balconies opening over Plaza de Oriente Gardens. Bold, bright and just downright beautiful, it's dripping in character thanks to ornate cornice, traditional shuttered windows and classical furnishing. A riot of elegant colours and patterns, it couldn't be further from modern minimalism if it tried.

Once you've arrived and stared out of the window for long enough to take it all in, choose between the two pretty bedrooms – one decorated in calming greens, the other in vibrant terracotta. There's a grand, open-plan living space to keep everything sociable, and a kitchen with everything you'll need for cooking at home. But we suspect you'll be eating out much of the time – it would be rude not to when surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city. And with most of the major attractions on your doorstep too, you'll have plenty to see and do.

Speaking of exploring, you’ve got plenty to see and do within easy walking distance, including Puerta del Sol (eight minutes), Plaza Mayor (ten minutes), the Royal Palace of Madrid (fifteen minutes) and the Museo Nacional del Prado (twenty minutes). In the evenings, it’s all about the tapas and bar culture – with more drinking establishments than any other city on the planet, you won’t know where to begin first.

Despite its central location, this is a peaceful home-from-home, ideal for unwinding after busy sightseeing days and evenings spent feasting on tapas. It’s bright and welcoming, flooded with light, and has been beautifully decorated in muted tones. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living room – if you’re hoping for more space, we’d recommend a maximum occupancy of two.

This is a loud and proud home, filled with bold art and eclectic furniture. Large abstract paintings sit comfortably next to custom art prints and photography, revealing the hosts' love for shapes and stripes. Although it offers more of a mixture of modern and classical styles than a clear direction, this home has a mid-Century Hollywood feel to it. It's not the most typical Spanish home, but each of the rooms is designed around a coherent theme and colour scheme. Apart from the light and space – both abundant – this home has a lovely collection of lamps in all shapes and sizes.

Despite its central location, the apartment maintains a peaceful hum at all times. When sipping your coffee in the morning or relaxing on the sofa in the evening, you won't believe you're in the heart of a flourishing metropolis. 

Start your days admiring the striking buildings that are on your doorstep. Between each landmark, stop off for some paella, tapas or risotto, complemented by the famous Spanish beers. You can also treat yourself to a jug of sangria if you're feeling a more fruity vibe.

With a fantastic address, just off the Paseo de la Castellana, this apartment has a wealth of attractions nearby. The upmarket districts of Salamanca, Chamberi and Justicia are all close, so you'll have plenty of fine restaurants, chic boutiques and art galleries to enjoy. With one of Madrid's main avenues on your doorstep, the slight downside is you will hear some street noise here, but it's easily fixed with some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We have to say, we love the views over Plaza Villa de París from this home. The kitchen is well-equipped, so you can cook some homemade meals or let your host arrange a private chef to create some of your favourite tapas dishes.

Although the apartment isn't especially large, the owners have made excellent use of the space. The spotlessly clean and dynamic living room is dotted with stylish – but not overbearing – design pieces, and the mirror in the kitchen makes it feel dramatically more spacious. And, with an exceptionally fast wifi speed, a brand new air-conditioning unit, and five individual balconies (yes, really!) facing onto sunny Cadiz street, it's easy to see why guests keep coming back.

The terrace is the first thing that grabs your attention at this fabulous home, housed in a historic building dating back to 1919 – it's the perfect place for a glass (or a pitcher) of sangria. It really is a fantastic, south-facing outdoor space, with a sunshade – relax on the sun loungers or enjoy some alfresco tapas. There's an outside shower too to rinse off the suncream before going indoors. Inside, there's lots of light, and the huge living room is a wonderful space to entertain. We love the original artwork and colourful wallpapers in the bedrooms. This apartment is perfect for a group of friends, family or professionals on a business trip. We were surprised, as well, given its central, Calle Gran Vía location, how quiet it is here. Step out of the door, and you're on Madrid's most famous street, right in the centre of the capital. Here you'll find some of the city’s most iconic buildings, as well as boutiques, restaurants (let your lovely host make reservations) and bars galore. Take in the incredible views over Madrid from the roof terrace of Círculo de Bellas Artes, a cultural centre offering concerts and exhibitions, a five-minute stroll away. Or, get inspired at Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza with its masterpieces by Van Gogh, Caravaggio and Lichtenstein, nine minutes on foot. Architecture lovers, on the other hand, can admire Ayuntamiento de Madrid, or visit the exhibitions at Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos, both under a ten-minute saunter.

This apartment is located on iconic Sevilla Street, right in the heart of Madrid. You’ve got all the city’s must-sees, including Museo del Prado, Palacio Real, and Plaza Mayor, on your doorstep. And if you want to venture further afield, Sevilla metro station is at the end of the road. Most of the windows in the home are skylights so you won’t get much of a view from here, but the open-plan living space has everything you’ll need, including a handy breakfast bar and comfortable lounge area. The second bedroom is very cosy – we think it’s best suited to a child or someone travelling light.

There's a reason Salamanca is one of Madrid's most sought-after neighbourhoods. With its gourmet eateries, world-renowned museums and luxury boutiques lining the Golden Mile, the area offers something for everyone. Just on the cusp of this swanky postcode is this apartment. The size is ideal for couples and solo travellers, but the option of a single sofa bed keeps sleeping arrangements flexible. Netflix and a Playstation have rainy days covered, and although it's not the most exciting home, we like the design – particularly the colourful wallpaper in the bedroom.

Madrid Marigold

Ideal for a group of friends or family, this apartment in the heart of the Salamanca district is the perfect base from which to explore Madrid. With a balcony to soak up the Spanish sunshine in the mornings and each bedroom boasting its own en-suite, this is a comfortable home for up to six people. There’s no parking here, but with a host of eateries and shops on your doorstep and a mere five-minute walk to the Velázquez and Príncipe de Vergara stops, hopping across the city is a breeze.

Sunlight Incline

This chic apartment has two large shopping centres within a few hundred metres – this is a great base if you’re hoping to indulge in some retail therapy in Madrid. It’s in the heart of the city, with the Puerta del Sol just a few steps away. The apartment is modern and minimalist, with a tranquil vibe that means you can unwind when you’re not out seeing the sights. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, which may not be the most comfortable set-up for longer stays. 

City Chic Retreat

Malasaña is a frequent traveller's favourite. An ever-changing landscape of artisan cafes and local galleries, it's a perfect start to an off-the-beaten-path holiday. In the Flow is a typical Malasaña resident – relaxed and bohemian, with a mixture of high-quality furnishings and flea-market knick-knacks that add to its charm. It might not be a great home if you're particularly tall (due to the slanting ceilings), but it's big, bright, and comfortable.

Despite being located in the heart of Malasaña, Autumn Jungle is tucked away on a quiet street. Walking to Plaza Mayor or Palacio Real will be a breeze, but the nearby streets of Madrid's trendiest neighbourhood will have you stopping in art galleries and cosy bars along the way. This is a well-executed home with curated artwork, where special attention has been given to the details. It might not be the biggest home in our collection, but it has a pleasant, bohemian chic vibe that fits in perfectly in the spirit of Malasaña. 

Autumn Jungle

Situated in cool Chueca with its vibrant LGBTQ+ scene and independent boutiques, galleries and bars – this apartment has a fabulous address. There's an array of interesting museums to visit here, including Museo del Romanticismo, a five-minute stroll. Or head to Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza with its masterpieces by Van Gogh and Lichtenstein, just under a fifteen-minute walk. If you need a pit stop, have a seat at one of the cafes on Plaza de Chueca and when you've rested, take a three-minute wander back to this stylish home.

Inside, we love the little design details, such as the geometric and stripey wallpapers, as well as the canine and modern artworks. Grey and mustard furnishings, along with plants and vases of flowers, create a homely vibe. Whip up a refreshing drink with the juicer or make some gazpacho for dinner in the modern kitchenette. This place is the ideal Madrid bolthole for two couples or business professionals.



Among the Hounds of Love

Bright and contemporary, we think this open-plan studio is perfect for a solo traveller or a couple craving a stay in Madrid. With a stylish bathroom, walk-in closet and huge windows that let you wake up with a direct view of the city, the clever layout compartmentalises the space in a way that opens up the room and fills it with light. Relax on the cosy sofa with a glass of Spanish vino and your favourite Netflix show, rustle up some tapas and light bites in the sleek kitchen or snuggle up on the comfortable bed with a book after a long day exploring – whatever you get up to, we know you'll be happy to call this pad home. And speaking of exploring, this locale is right in the heart of the city, with many of the must-see sights a short stroll away. Ritzy Salamanca is ideal for high-end shopping and fine dining (stroll down the Golden Mile or grab a bite at Platea food court, five minutes away), while leafy Parque del Retiro is an excellent spot to bask in the morning sunshine. Museums, restaurants and monuments are all within walking distance, but if your feet need a break, hop on the metro – both Colón and Recoletos stations are right around the corner.

Iris Field

This apartment is for those seeking design and location. Located in Retiro, this pad caught our eye for its stylish open-plan living space – it’s an idyllic spot to share tapas dinners and sangria pitchers with your loved ones after a day of gallery hopping and shopping on Gran Via. When you feel like dining out you’ll have plenty of authentic eateries and upscale restaurants on your doorstep, though the contemporary kitchen will lure in the home cooks. And while there’s no parking here, the Retiro metro station is just a short walk away.
