There's a small balcony with space to stand out and enjoy the fresh air, though the street views aren't the most exciting. The home is very small throughout, with a kitchenette and a pull-out Murphy bed in the living area, so you'll want to pack light. That said, we think it's a good choice for those travelling for work or for weekend breaks. The location means you can expect some outside noise, but you'll be near shops, restaurants, a park, and a supermarket for essentials, with public transport close by for exploring or commuting.

Majestic Hideout

Situated in Opañel, this studio apartment is a fuss-free spot to enjoy Madrid. There’s private parking if you’re bringing a car along, though, with Urgel metro nearby, a car isn’t necessary. The apartment is minimal and not the most soulful, but all the mod cons are here for a practical stay. While there are sleeping arrangements for four, with a pull-out double and a sofa bed, we think this pad is better suited to two. And while the balcony views aren’t so inspired, it’s still a great spot for sharing a drink after a day of sightseeing.

The area is local in feel and certainly isn't glamorous, but it does offer a slice of life if you prefer to be far away from touristy spaces. That said, Urgel Station is a short walk away – from here, you can be in the centre of Madrid in less than twenty minutes.

Located close to Central Madrid, though far enough away from the hustle, this functional studio is the ideal base for city breakers. Being so close to the city, you can easily drive or hop on the metro from Urgel, just a short walk away. Back at home, there are all the mod cons you need, with a laptop-friendly table for remote workers. Keep in mind the bed is a Murphy bed, so you’ll need to transform the space come bedtime, and while we think this pad is best suited to two, there is a handy sofa bed for a third and fourth guest.

Living like a local and function meet in this studio flat in Madrid's Opañel district, with everything you need for an extended stay – ideal if you're a remote worker or someone who doesn't want to be on top of the touristy parts of town. With both beds in the same room, the home is best suited to families, and space is limited – though with a sofa bed and a Murphy bed, you can create extra space during the day. A Postcard from Madrid

This studio in Opañel is for those seeking a quieter neighbourhood but within easy reach of Central Madrid. From here, you’re just a short drive from the inner city and within walking distance of Urgel metro station. The balcony is a nice spot for morning coffees, though keep in mind there’s no seating out here. Inside, the space is minimal and equipped for all your needs – the high-top table will appeal to remote workers, and the sofa bed will accommodate two extra guests. That said, this studio is on the smaller side, and we think it’s best suited for two.

We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. As you'd expect from such a central location, you will hear some city noise while staying here. After all that exploring, you can sit in this home's shared courtyard and get your breath back. Inside, we love the living area's double-height ceilings and galleried landing, and there's a desk here if you need to catch up on work. We'd say the adjacent ground-floor bedroom isn't fully private, as it's a cubicle room with three-quarter-height walls – otherwise, this is a great home for couples, a family or business colleagues.

La Latina is a lively part of Madrid, full of chic restaurants and stylish boutiques. Street art adds a modern touch to the architecture – this is a cool part of town for sure. Finding a cosy corner for a glass of wine or a round of tapas is effortless – it’s the choosing that’s tricky. Luckily your hosts are passionate about the area so can give you their top tips. 

An eleven-minute walk will take you to Plaza Mayor, a bustling square lined with restaurants and cafes. We love a spot of people-watching on holiday so it’s a firm favourite of ours. You might like to wander over to the Royal Palace, which is built on the site of the old Alcazar fortress. It’s sixteen minutes on foot from the apartment. For an afternoon of fresh air, take a picnic to El Retiro Park. We like to stop by a market for fresh bread and Spanish cheese and meats. The park is twenty-seven minutes from the apartment. 

If exploring on foot is proving too tiring, you can zip around the city on the metro. The La Latina stop is just three minutes from your front door. This apartment is a haven in the middle of a vibrant and beautiful city – it makes for a wonderful home base, and has everything you need.
