Blue Torito is a chilled-out home located in one of the liveliest parts of Madrid. Even though it sports a gentle colour palette, it uses patterns and textures to give it a bit more spunk. There's a reason Salamanca is one of Madrid's most sought-after neighbourhoods. With its gourmet eateries, world-renowned museums and luxury boutiques lining the Golden Mile, the area offers something for everyone. Just on the cusp of this swanky postcode is this apartment. The size is ideal for couples and solo travellers, but the option of a single sofa bed keeps sleeping arrangements flexible. Netflix and a Playstation have rainy days covered, and although it's not the most exciting home, we like the design – particularly the colourful wallpaper in the bedroom.

Surprisingly spacious for a pad this central, you’re all set up for remote working here with a dedicated desk space, and the Juliet balcony is a nice touch for peering over with morning coffees.

There are lots of quirky details in Flowerhead, but the location is probably its greatest strength. Just across the road from the green vastness of Retiro, this home is within walking distance to both the museum quarter and the famous Puerta del Sol.

The transparent doors between the bedrooms and the living room help the natural light get through, but they also mean that there isn't much privacy – maybe not the best option for a business trip.  But for a group of friends or a family, it's a great, comfortable stay.

There’s not much food preparation space in the kitchen, but that said, it’s well-equipped, and you can always let your host arrange for a private chef to cook some authentic tapas dishes.

This pet-friendly apartment is a great choice if you fancy staying in the Esquerra de l’Eixample neighbourhood. Here, you'll get a feel for old-town Barcelona, as the daytime art galleries and traditional tapas bars offer something for everyone. This home's earthy interior design, flowy living space, and Juliet balcony promise nice touches for a base in the city. But the internal patio is where we imagine remote workers sipping sangria and making sightseeing plans after a day in the office.

If you’re after easy living in the heart of a cultural hotspot, this chic apartment is right for you. The building's located in Madrid’s charming and vibrant Justicia neighbourhood, albeit on a quiet street so you slip in and out of the urban hustle and bustle as and when you please.

Inside, the overarching impression is one of stylish simplicity. Muted grey walls and wooden floorings are a classy combination and work particularly well with the vintage framed artwork and modern furnishings. We're also impressed by the sleek finishes and generous amount of surface space in the minimalist kitchen — here, you can quite easily take a break from the city's restaurants for a night.

Take a glance out of the large windows in the living room and bedroom, and you're greeted with beautiful views across the city, which should inspire you to head and explore. El Retiro Park is only a fifteen-minute walk away, while there are also seven museums that can be reached in under fifteen minutes on foot. If you want to feel the wind in your hair as you get to know Madrid, there are also bikes for hire just outside the building.

We love the soft tones and simple, rustic style of this apartment. When you’re curled up with a guidebook in the light-filled living and dining space, it’s easy to forget you’re in the heart of Barcelona’s bustling Eixample district. But step outside, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by bars, restaurants and theatres. You’re a short walk from Plaça Universitat and Plaça de Catalunya, where you can people-watch for hours.
