Inside, your hosts have put a lot of thought into this place, from the plush velvet oversized headboard in the bedroom to the bathroom's botanical wallpaper and marble style finish. Modern and comfortable has been achieved to the tee – nothing is below par here.

On the outskirts of Maspalomas, in the centre of Salobre, this bright, colourful and comfortable villa offers a private pool, gardens and terrace with views of the mountains and ocean in the distance. This home is a rare find – it has a peaceful and private setting, and yet it's just a few minutes walk from the historic city of La Orotava. Surrounded by a plantation of avocados, relax on the multiple terraces (five no less), cool off from the Tenerife sun in the infinity waterfall pool with its Atlantic Ocean vistas or unwind in the hot tub. 

We love the professionally designed gardens – our favourite spot is the yoga/meditation corner –  very zen. There's a fantastic outdoor kitchen, too – cook up a feast while you enjoy the fabulous views of Mount Teide, the forests and hills. As sunset arrives, pick some mint for your mojitos from the herb garden or feel free to pick a lemon for your G&T. As the light continues to fade, gather around the designer fire pit. 

Or, on cooler evenings, cosy up in front of the wood-burning stove indoors. Here, you'll find gorgeous beamed, vaulted ceilings, as well as original pictures and sculptures.

There's plenty to do out and about too. Hire a bike and explore the terrain (many professional cycling teams train here). If you prefer something a bit less energetic, there are three golf courses within easy reach, including one designed by Seve Ballestros. The nearest beach is 3 kilometres away, along with the popular resort beaches and Lido in Puerto de la Cruz, while La Orotava has an array of cafes, shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance.

You'll find sunshine, vistas and golf clubs in abundance at this sea-facing villa in the five-star Salobre Golf Resort – though you don’t need to be a dab hand with the clubs to enjoy your time here. Book a sauna session at the wellness centre, take a yoga class, or go for drinks at one of the resort's many bars. 

We love the layout of this villa, with its crisp, contemporary interiors and floor-to-ceiling windows. Views of the nearby moat and river, and then dramatic hillsides and sea beyond, can be seen from practically every room and terrace. 

Take your morning coffee outside onto the spacious first-floor balcony just off the master bedroom. Then head downstairs for a dip in the pool. When it’s time to cool off, come together under the shaded terraces, or head indoors for lunch in the dining area. Wherever you choose, those incredible views are right there with you. When the sea finally beckons, miles of sandy beach can be found at Meloneras, just a twelve-minute drive away.

With the kind of views you don't see every day, this home is found in the heart of the Salobre Golf Resort. Bound to appeal to golfers (you can watch some of the action from your terrace), it's a great spot for a relaxing break even if you're not a dab hand with clubs. 

Inside, the interiors are modern and fresh – a slate floor and white walls characterise the living space, while the bedrooms are modern and comfy. The covered terrace and lawns look directly over the little river and the striking Gran Canaria hills, all the way to the sea. Even when you dive into the private pool, the drop-side and glass safety barrier mean you can still admire the views. Right on the beachfront at La Canteras, this home has a fabulous spot. Take in the fantastic Atlantic and La Canteras Beach views from this home’s sunny and dazzling whitewashed terrace. You can even spot Mount Teide in Tenerife in the distance. We love this outdoor space, it's ideal for an alfresco breakfast (whizz up a drink in the juicer to accompany some churros). Later, do some sunbathing on the sun loungers. Inside, there are more of those fabulous vistas through the large sliding doors.

In the afternoon, perhaps head to La Canteras  Beach, under a minute stroll away. It’s one of the best urban beaches in the world, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to sample in the vicinity too. Or, for a bit of culture, Las Palmas Cathedral is a ten-minute ride away. It’s a couple of minutes more to Casa-Museo de Colón, which documents Columbus’ voyages. 


Somewhere on a Beach

Start your mornings at this Gran Canaria duplex with a café con leche on the balcony that is attached to the main bedroom, offering great views both day and night. Soak up some sunshine on the loungers on your private terrace or sit under the shade of the awning with a great holiday read. Then, why not take a dip in the complex’s swimming pool, which even has a children’s pool for your little ones?  

Spend days on the sandy beach – which can be reached in just twenty-one minutes on foot – or if you’re more adventurous, then rent a surfboard and hit the waves. Play a round of golf – a five-minute drive away, or keep your eyes on the horizon and go dolphin and whale watching – reachable within eight minutes by car.

In the evening, you could treat yourself to a massage, before unwinding in the soothing bubbles of your private hot tub, overlooking the pool below. Then, take advantage of the home’s barbecue and cook some delicious grilled tapas for dinner. 

Sol & Sand

With its white walls, floating staircases, and wooden architecture, this home feels like something from the future. Set in the heart of Salobre Golf Resort, the plot is breathtakingly modern. Pristine walls and mood-lit ceilings nod strongly toward minimalism, with pops of colour from the plush yellow velvet sofas in the open kitchen. Where decoration may seem sparse, sliding doors flood the space with sunshine, turning your eye towards the impressive view instead. Bedrooms each have a different colour scheme, from the palm leaf-patterned double to the lemon yellow and grey room, which leads onto a marble-covered bathroom. Outside is just as stylish. Come evening, the outdoor kitchen with its grill barbecue is on hand to cook up feasts. Time it right and dinner will be served on the outdoor table, just as the sun is setting beneath the ocean.

Apollo Landing

Located in Salobre Golf Resort in the south of the island, this home feels like an oasis in the lunar-like landscapes of Gran Canaria.

The home itself is cosy and relaxing, with plenty of space and comfy furnishings on which to relax after your tee-off. Along the walls are huge floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to the verdant garden and also have the added benefit of inviting plenty of natural light inside.

What's more, the outdoor space is equally as impressive as the interior. You can take in views of the hilly landscape from the terrace with your morning coffee or opt for a dip in the heated swimming pool instead.

If paddling about gives you the inspiration to head to the beach, you don't have too far to go — it's only ten minutes' drive to Playa Las Mujeres, for instance. Closer to home, there's a golf course and restaurant within the resort, while there are some impressive vantage points and hiking routes to be discovered nearby.

El Cubo Rojo

Gran Canaria is known for its sand, both on its beaches and in the hills. This villa's pretty sandy too, at least in tone, and is your private oasis on the island. It's all about days in the garden here. Swim laps in the long, rectangular pool, before dining at the outside table under the sun. Sit back and work on your tan, while admiring the views of the mountains and forests on the horizon. Within the villa, modern stone walls are a wonderful feature against comfortable furnishings – lie back on the comfy sofa in front of the widescreen TV, and make the most of your stylish surroundings. After unwinding in the garden, embark on a trip to some of the myriad restaurants and shops in the area. You'll also find a nearby golf course where you can practice your swing, and a glorious sandy beach a short car journey away. Or wander across the sand dunes of Maspalomas, one of the island's landmarks. 

Orange Delight

With a great location within the centre of this golf resort – this villa has lovely views, especially from the balcony. There's a private pool and covered dining area for when you want to cool off from the Gran Canarian sun. Inside, the tropical wallpaper reminds us that this island is just off the coast of Africa with a warm climate all year round. Another thing we love here is that you can step out of both bedrooms onto a terrace. There are fresh bread rolls delivered every morning for free, too – a nice touch. This small resort is situated a few kilometres from Playa del Ingles, and other nearby attractions include the dunes of Maspalomas.

A Birdie

This modern villa sits pretty among the hills of southern Gran Canaria, with a delightfully sunny aspect and great views of the hills. Here, you're a short walk from the Salobre Golf Resort and its enormous course, supermarket, shops, restaurant, bar and serene infinity pool. Your own pool is not to be sniffed at, however, edged by mini-decks where you can bask, lizard-like, in the sun – there's really no need to move here. For true decadence, crawl onto the four-poster day bed and drift off. There is a big outdoor grill as well, so you really don't have to think about eating out unless you want to. Post dinner, kick back and watch some DVDs on the enormous TV.

La Tangerina

This eco-friendly studio apartment is situated just moments away from the Las Canteras beach, making it a good base for a couple or a solo traveller. Thanks to the central location, a car is not essential here, as you’ll have plenty of shopping and dining options to choose from within walking distance. Public transport options are also excellent if you want to explore further afield. The pad may be compact in size but there’s enough space here for two guests to be comfortable, and with good internet speed, you can also catch up on work during your stay – although you'll have to set-up shop around the dining table since there isn't a desk.

Sailing for Sights

There's something utterly relaxing about this seventh-floor flat, perched right next to La Puntilla. Between the seaside-inspired design, luminous living space and floor-to-ceiling windows boasting panoramas of the rolling waves, you'll have that beachy keen feeling from the moment you walk through the door. And trust us, with the Atlantic Ocean sparkling in the distance, you'll want to spend all day basking in that view.

Perfect for a couple, this pad has plenty of places to kick back and get comfortable. Plop down in the yellow chair with a good book and a refreshing drink, watching the ebb and flow of the tide. Stretch out on the sun-loungers or curl up on the plush sofa for an afternoon siesta before heading out for a night on the town – with a bevvy of bars and restaurants nearby, we think you'll need a mid-day pick-me-up. 

As far as locations go, you can't ask for better. Las Palmas' sweeping Playa las Canteras is mere steps from your flat, so take advantage and while away your days snorkelling, surfing and swimming in the water. Shops, markets and eateries are also close at hand – as are options for hiking (Isleta Nature Reserve is a six-minute drive) and sightseeing (Plaza Santa Ana is thirteen minutes by car).

Sunburst Sepia

Perched high above the shores of Las Palmas' famous Las Canteras Beach, this apartment's terrace is a seaside show-stopper. Whether you're lolling about on the sun loungers with a cocktail and a good book, sharing alfresco tapas around the outdoor table or chilling out in the stylish living area with the windows wide open, the rolling tides and clear blue skies paint a postcard-worthy backdrop. 

It's downright dreamy – you can hear the waves crashing below you and feel the salt kiss your skin. And it's no surprise that the sunsets are unmissable. If you need to attend to a few pesky work emails, pull up a chair and get down to business at the desk. Come evening, sprawl out on the white leather sofa with a glass of sangria and rest your feet after a day in the sunshine. 

And speaking of the weather, you won't find a sweeter spot to bask in the Gran Canaria rays than on Las Canteras Beach. And, even better, it's mere moments from your doorstep – about a minute's walk, in fact. The go-to place for surfing, sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling, chances are, you'll spend every moment with your toes in the sand. There's also an excellent selection of cocktail bars, beachfront restaurants and ice cream parlours nearby for those nights when you don't fancy cooking. What can be dreamier than that?
