Recently refurbished to preserve its charm and whimsical nature, this home is a great place to visit if you need a bit of inspiration. As you'll be staying right on the beach, La Peinture will give you plenty of sea breeze and views to start your day, so get up early, grab a coffee, and sit on the terrace to catch the sunrise. Once you're ready to explore, take a walk on the beach and if the weather is nice, dip your toes into the sea. You can pack light if you're here to swim and work on your tan as you can always return to your gorgeous residence for a snack. If you want to do a bit of sightseeing, visit the nearby towns of Honfleur and Deauville and walk the cobbled streets. when you return, whip up a meal in the well-equipped kitchen to replenish your energy, then organise a movie night with the help of the big flat-screen TV.

This home in Saint-Jean-du-Bois caught our eye after it was recommended by a member of the Plum Guide community. An elegant country chateau, it's perfectly plonked in the heart of the Loire Valley, with Le Mans just a twenty-minute drive away. Here you'll feel like nobility the moment you pull up in the drive. Sat in an eye-wateringly huge 450-acre estate, this place has impressive features by the boatload. Speaking of boats, you can fish or row round the lake, or hop on one of the bikes provided to peruse the countryside, challenge someone to a game of tennis, or dive into the beautiful heated pool. Inside, the home is a super-stylish mix of stripped-back country chic and lux modern design. Each of the nine bedrooms is decorated to a theme, and there are roll-top baths to be found in some of the luxury bathrooms. This is one to savour with family, friends and a few glasses of local wine.

If you're fond of the work produced during the impressionist movement, a visit to Pontoise is essential, as a lot of the most prominent artists chose to base themselves in this picturesque corner of France. The estate of the chateau is perfect for long walks and doing absolutely nothing by the pool, while the interior promotes socialising via the regal antique furniture. Places to see theatre easily accessible from here include the Landing Beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry and Monet's Garden — but there's so much to see around here that we'd rather just let you get on with it.
