The dual-concept living area is swathed in natural textures, rattan and wicker furnishings, and a bespoke tree wallpaper. This is a tranquil space, with a plump sofa for sharing a glass or two of locally-produced Gamay and a charming dining table for enjoying the produce you picked up from the local market. We love this charming single-level holiday home because it encompasses the best of both worlds. Though it is situated near Nancy's centre, allowing guests to make the most of the varied shopping, dining, and cultural offerings therein, it also feels tranquil and secluded – due in part to the small wooded area at the rear of the property. There you will also find a seating area perfect for long summer evenings spent in the company of friends and family. 

While the home's exteriors have a traditional French aesthetic typical of the Alsace-Lorraine area, step inside and you'll find cool and versatile interiors – think funky furniture, design-forward wallpaper, and quirky artwork adorning the walls. One of our favourite features has got to be the sleek shower rooms. Finished in a chic floor-to-ceiling grey marble, lending the room an upscale if somewhat trendy industrial feel, this space is perfect for a bit of pampering before a day – or an evening – spent exploring the highlights of Nancy.

From the Palais Ducal with its archetypal fairytale vibes to the beautifully ornate Basilique Saint-Epvre or the popular Parc de la Pépinière and its fragrant rose garden, not to mention the wealth of cultural attractions including the National Opera and the Fine Arts Museum, there is so much to fall in love with in and around the historic centre of this city. However, we're almost certain you'll be keen to sample local culinary delights at the many fabulous restaurants and eateries scattered around the city. If you're here during the winter, of course, the German markets will leave you awe-inspired and itching to come back during the festive period year after year. 

When in Alsace

So constant is this home’s beauty, you can visit summer or winter and be bowled over by the views on offer from the balcony. In winter, when the Vosges Massif is capped in white and the snow lies in wait at the La Bresse-Hohneck ski resort, you can wrap up warm and enjoy a steaming cup of cacao as you gaze out over the blanketed town below. And it’s even more beautiful at sunset, when the orange glow of lights bathes it all in a fairytale glow. Although some of the winter wonderland atmosphere might evaporate as the warmer weather starts to melt the snow, the vibrant green beauty it leaves in its wake is still a sight to behold. 

When you’re not dining alfresco simply to get another look at that view, you can cosy up in the small living room to spend family movie night together, or opt for a bit of quiet time as you get in bed early with a good romance novel. 

With a free shuttle to and from La Bresse-Hohneck, you can get on the piste as early as you’d like and practice on the slopes until your limbs are in need of a hot shower. After, when you’ve sufficiently warmed up, you can have a après-ski drink on the balcony before switching on the fondue machine for a night of cheesy goodness around the dining table. 

Town centre is only a ten minute walk away, so it’s easy to stock up on whatever you need at the bakery, pharmacy, and shop.

Nestled deep in French wine country, between Burgundy, Champagne and Chablis, this beautiful home will fulfil anybody's dreams of experiencing life in a medieval French castle. Original stone walls and wooden ceilings display the building's history, which is also emphasised by classic old Norman symbols and colours in the kitchen. Ensconced by fields, horses and rolling hills there are opportunities for walks and hiking in abundance, but also for horse riding, tennis, golf and swimming in a nearby lake. The hot springs in the nearest town of Bourbonne-les-Bains is a must see.

Winter, Summer, Autumn, or Spring, this gorgeous holiday home – constructed using timber and so lending the building an authentic Alpine feel – is a great choice at any time of year. 

Luxuriate in the wide open spaces of its wood-clad interior, or step outside to the beautiful balcony and take in the ever-changing view of the picturesque valley below – a view that shifts and alters as do the seasons, from the iridescent greens of the summer months to the blazing ambers of autumn and, of course, the pristine, glistening whites of the snow during ski season.

Nestled in La Bresse, an area of the Hautes Vosges, the surrounding area offers a range of activities throughout the year, including more than 250 kilometres of marked walking trails and 200 kilometres of mountain bike tracks. There is also fantastic fishing (as well as spectacular scenery) to be enjoyed at the stunning Lac des Corbeaux. 

For those with a taste for adventure, then the Bol D'Air Aventure Parc is calling, offering thrill-seekers the chance to try their hand at everything from paragliding to bungee jumping and summer sledging. The storybook villages and world-renowned vineyards of Alsace are reachable within about an hour by car too. 

In winter, snow bunnies can make the most of three downhill slopes in the area, including La Bresse-Hohneck just a ten-minute drive from the apartment. The two other smaller resorts of Lispach with six runs, and Brabant, offering three, also welcome visitors during the season. For cross-country skiing, the Lispach Nordic Area boasts 50 kilometres of runs for all abilities, as well as snowshoeing circuits, an international biathlon stadium, a floodlit track, sledging slopes, and an ice rink.

With all that action and adventure on offer, it's just as well that at the end of a day spent making unforgettable memories, you can retreat to the comfort and serenity of your apartment. Make sure to recharge and refuel with a hearty meal of local specialities, which includes a selection of hearty pies, rich and flavourful meat dishes, as well as decadently creamy cheese offerings from local dairies.
