We're not sure if BBC sent you here, but if you want a closer look at Mulberry House's kitchen, look no further than Rick Stein’s 'Secret France' featuring the smiley host making a delicious meal here — and were absolutely expect your to try to recreate it! This is a typical French hilltop chateau, but this doesn't mean it's ordinary. The casually welcoming atmosphere is a product of modern furniture and restored period features, the kitchen being the best example of this harmony. Still, we expect you to spend much more time around this home than in it. With the huge pool that's perfect for a morning splash and the futuristic loungers around it, a gorgeous dining spot under the pergola, and a breezy back garden, there are plenty of spots to socialise or reflect in peace. The host team that looks after this home is always available to help and organise those extra touches that will make your stay even more special. With a loft apartment vibe – this home in Avignon is full of charm. We love the exposed stone walls and wooden beams, while the modernity of the stainless-steel kitchen and contemporary staircase blends well with the old. There's a Zen atmosphere here, too, thanks to the buddha artwork in the living space. Relax with a good book on the silver velvet sofa, then cook up a Provençal style lunch with ingredients from Avignon Halles, a mere three-minute walk away. However, there are plenty of eateries on your doorstep if you prefer to eat out. Later explore Palais des Papes – one of the most significant medieval Gothic buildings in Europe or watch a production at the Opéra Grand Avignon, both around ten minutes on foot. This cottage-style villa has plenty of character – we particularly like the imposing fireplace in the lounge and the elevated library in the master bedroom. Outside there’s lots of greenery, with a plant-filled terrace and small, lawned garden to enjoy. While the swimming pool is on the small side, the pretty surroundings mean it’s still a pleasant place to cool off. Location wise, you’re close to the centre of Loumarin, often voted one of the most beautiful villages in France, where you’ll find cobbled streets, an array of cafes and restaurants, and a bustling, weekly market.

This beautiful village house is the perfect place to enjoy a holiday in the Luberon region of Provence. The property is located on a hillside on the edge of Gordes, one of France's classified 'Plus Beaux Villages'. The Provençal valley views from the terraced grounds are incredible.

The house has been decorated with refined style and there's an authentic ambience across its elegant lounge, dining room and perfectly equipped kitchen with doors sliding open to the al-fresco dining terrace. Modern additions include air-conditioning throughout, a Sonos music system and Smart TVs in its mezzanine lounge and two of the three bedrooms.

Sleeping up to six guests, the bedrooms are gorgeous, one with a king-size double bed, wood-beamed ceiling and romantic rolltop bath, another with a queen-size double, sofa and en suite shower room and the third en suite with twin beds and lovely views through its little windows. 

Outside, the vistas of Provence will take your breath away whether you are enjoying a glass of Luberon AOC wine on the upper terrace or peacefully reading on the outdoor sofa beneath the poolside pergola. The swimming pool is superb for warm summer days when you don't wish to venture too far. We love the rustic charm of the terraced grounds with old stone steps, pretty pathways and swathes of summer colour.

First and foremost, with a pretty south-east facing garden, furnished terrace and private swimming pool, there's plenty of outdoor space to while away sun-soaked afternoons in the French countryside, with nothing but the sound of the chirping birds to interrupt your rest and relaxation. 

Inside the cottage, appealing artwork adorns the walls and a ruby-red colour palette runs throughout the open-plan kitchen, living and dining space to make for warm and welcoming interiors that will quickly have you feeling right at home. Wander around the hectare of grounds, where you'll find an abundance of fauna and flora amidst the rosemary and thyme gardens. Unwind on the surrounding lawns surrounded by Provençal plants, or better still, take a seat on the terrace shaded by the ancient trees.

The interior of the house has been sensitively restored. Classic features, including wooden beams, an open hearth and ornate tiles are maintained whilst modern finishes complement its original charm. There are plenty of spaces dedicated to relaxation inside the home - a serene living room with plush sofas or a calm master suite opening out to a Juliette balcony. We highly doubt a rainy day here, however, the pianist of the group can soundtrack evenings in front of the crackling fire if a shower does show.

Leisurely afternoons are best spent in the pool or lounging on the south-facing terrace. Come evening time, gather around the Mediterranean-style dining room for a chef-cooked dinner with the region’s best ingredients. End the evening with a few games of boules as the sunset unfolds.

The hardest decision you’ll have to make here is whether to take a dip in the sea at the private beach, the heated pool, or the brand new jacuzzi. If you’d rather stay on land, horse riding, hiking and cycling trails are right on your doorstep. Whatever takes your fancy, you know you can finish your day with a tipple from the vaulted stone cellar in the wine and food tasting room.

The Fort

Beautifully rustic and full of Provençal charm, this rural villa is the perfect spot to explore the French countryside if you’re looking for tranquillity and calm. Situated just outside the village of Gargas, enjoy wandering through cobblestone streets lined with ochre stone buildings and visit the 16th century church. The area is known for its ochre quarries and striking red cliffs, and this can best be appreciated with a visit to Roussillon – named one of France’s most beautiful villages – which is just a mere four kilometres away. The home blends into the landscape with its terracotta roof, pale stone walls and garden with blossoming flowers and lush greenery, perfect for alfresco dining on the terrace as the sun peers through the surrounding trees. Spend lazy afternoons by the glistening pool, and if the sun gets to be too much, the veranda shaded by a canopy of branches is a great spot for a cool glass of rosé. Inside, the light interior is warm and welcoming with traditional features, exposed beams, an open-hearth fireplace for the cooler months and air-conditioning in most rooms. If you feel like getting active or heading on a day trip, there’s an array of scenic cycling paths and hiking trails nearby as well as an abundance of other notable sights including the villages of Joucas and Gordes and the Luberon Regional Nature Park.

In the garden, you'll find a swimming pool and plenty of loungers that look out over the French countryside, but there are equally wonderful views from the two stone terraces.

The surrounding region of Luberon is both beautiful and peaceful, something that's easy to discover for yourselves with the amount of hiking and cycling routes that start from the grounds. The village of Saignon is a five-minute drive away too and offers a boulangerie, art gallery and a twelfth-century church.

While the spot is part of a resort, there's a strong sense of privacy thanks to large, shrub-surrounded gardens and spacious plots. Best for walking, rest, and relaxation, the villa has got its own private swimming pool. Cool off on hot summer days, before bagging your space on one of the loungers. Inside, Provincial charm meets modern style, from the grey sofas with poppy cushions to the pencil-drawn prints on walls. Bedrooms each have their own shower for washing swimming pool water off quickly, before heading back out and lighting up the BBQ for feasting alfresco.
