This beautifully renovated sixteenth century farmhouse with sweeping grounds is perfectly suited to a large family or group. Children will love the play room and football goals in the garden, and a couple of the bedrooms are especially designed for kids. The heated salt-water swimming pool really makes this home stand out for us, as does the air-conditioned barn – available for an additional fee – complete with a range of fitness equipment and pool table. Be aware however, that four of the bedrooms and three of the bathrooms are in annexes separate from the main house.

Les Chevaliers

This newly renovated apartment in central Bordeaux, home to largest urban World Heritage Site, is perfect for couples and small families. Cute and quirky, this fabulous French home features a lovely, light filled open plan kitchen cum dining cum living room characterised by pops of red, contrasting coloured wall paper.  You’ll love waking up in your idiosyncratically decorated room for two, and delighting in a rain shower before breakfast in the white tiled kitchen. Read, relax or watch the world go by from the sofa next to the window while making a plan for the day. This home’s superb location in the semi-pedestrian Saint-Pierre district, the city’s historic heart, means you’ll be wandering the cobbled streets and stumbling across picturesque squares in no time. 

A stone’s throw from the best Bordeaux has to offer by way of museums and cultural heritage sites as well as restaurants and bars, why not plot a course through the Place du Parlement, the Place du Palais or the Place de la Bourse, before visiting CAPC, the musée d'art contemporain, Saint-André Cathedral, and the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux? You won’t want to miss out on sampling both Bordelais premiers crus and cuisine and vibrant Saint-Pierre hosts a sassy mix of traditional French kitchens, experimental neobistros, creative fusion restaurants, food trucks and barista-run coffee shops, a gastronomic scene that is sure to impress even the most discerning of bon vivants.


Paper, Prints & Pops of Colour

Gourmet Castle  is a little atypical, but in the best possible way. It's a little castle, which combines the beat features of larger chateaus with the intimacy of a holiday villa. With charming turrets and a huge garden that you can explore to your heart's content, this home is a great countryside escape for those looking for a beautiful backdrop to their adventures. Come in, drop your bags, and look around the regal bedrooms. Lounge on the king bed here for a moment, appreciating the space and light that fills this room. Curl up with a good book in the salon, and whip up a glorious meal in the rustic kitchen, then decide whether you want to done outdoors or indoors in the antique dining room. The host team here is absolutely brilliant — aside from being available at any time of day, they're also happy to organise a variety of in-house activities for you. Think babysitting, private chefs, and a local caretaker who's more than happy to help you find things to do in the area

Gourmet Castle

Surrounded by fields where the only sound is the threshing of wheat and coo of pigeons, this chateau sits out in the Lot-et-Garonne countryside. The first thing we noticed was the old pigeonnier rising up like a stone turret which domestic pigeons would have fluttered in and out of in times gone by. A quiet courtyard area is shadowed by this architectural curiosity where you can dine in the sunshine, or on the shaded veranda – the choice is yours. Within the sprawling green gardens, there are towering trees that have stood for centuries and a stone path winds down the lawn to the swimming pool. Perhaps you’ll stumble upon the petanque court for a game in the sun. 

Within the home, the main lounge has a pleasingly rustic feel to it with gnarled old wooden beams on show, exposed stone walls and a lofty wooden ceiling with skylights out to the deep blue sky. A big wood-burning stove sits pride of place – harking back to a bucolic time of hand-tilled land and horses in stables. The kitchen is ultra-modern with a dedicated wine fridge to chill your bubbly, and French doors in here show off a view of rolling fields. Plus, there’s a huge pantry for all the produce you can pick up from the small-town farmers’ markets in the area. But the piece de resistance has to be the private wine cellar with its thick stone walls, barrel tables and a host ready to organise private tasting sessions of the best local vintages. 

Should you fancy a day trip, hop over the border to the Dordogne for an endless selection of wineries and the charming town of Bergerac is around a forty-five-minute drive away. 

Enchanted Pigeonnier

Situated on seven acres of private woodland in the Dordogne valley, this romantic country home offers a tranquil retreat from the stresses of everyday life. Gaze out at miles of pastoral land from your private heated pool, and dine al fresco under the dappled light.

The interiors make a strong case for rustic chic decor. Painted wooden beams and a wide wood-burning stove bring that classic farmhouse flair, while neutral furnishings and abstract art balance the space and keep it contemporary. The vast kitchen invites you to cook up a lavish meal – ask your host to fill the fridge with local produce prior to your arrival. In the master bedroom, you can wake up and step straight out into the garden through French doors, and if you're one for slower starts, why not indulge in a morning soak in the rolltop bathtub?

It wouldn't be a trip to France without a frequent serving of croissants and pain au chocolat – and as luck would have it, your closest boulangerie is within walking distance. If you have a little more time, travel just fifteen minutes to the medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéd, where you can treat yourself to the finest French cuisine at the vast indoor market.

Dans les Arbres

As featured on Channel 4’s ‘Escape to the Chateau: DIY', this 19th-century abode is situated in the French countryside between Toulouse and Carcassonne – an ideal location for exploring these grand cities. Its historic interiors have been beautifully restored and paired with modern amenities, including an orangery with a pool table, private bar, outdoor terraces, and five sumptuously appointed bedrooms. Five bikes are provided if you wish to cycle to the nearby 14th-century village, where you’ll find a wealth of history and culture. With 1.5 hectares of lush gardens to explore, this historic home is a departure from the ordinary and offers a truly unique stay.

Revelling in History 

Named a ‘Best Romantic Break’ by Liz Earle Wellbeing, this chateau in the stunning setting on the Dordogne-Lot et Garonne border presents a unique experience worth writing home about. 

Amidst the spanning countryside of rolling hills, summer sunflowers and fruit trees, it is rumoured that in former times, the fruit was picked from the gardens and served to the aristocracy residing at the 13th-century château just opposite. These days, the abundance of fauna and flora remains for guests' enjoyment. Roam around the castle's grounds, and as you soak up the views, take in the fresh air – sweetly fragranced by the orchards. 

While the home is listed as an ancient monument, it is restored to a pristine standard with contemporary finishings throughout. With plenty of living areas to relax, it's not just the six beautifully furnished en-suite bedrooms that will have you feeling refreshed and revitalised, as you'll find many quiet spots inside and out, to sit in peace with a glass of Côtes de Duras wine. We particularly love that when evening falls, you can control the coloured lighting of this 13th-century castle in a very 21st-century manner. 

Beyond the chateau and its beautiful garden (featuring a terrace and pool area), stroll along the little path that leads straight to the village of Duras in minutes. Pick up fresh bread and pastries from the boulangerie alongside some fresh fare at the local farmers' market. Then, when you're ready to venture further afield, set off on day trips to discover the likes of Bergerac, Château de Monbazillac and Saint-Émilion – all of which boast medieval architecture, quality restaurants and exquisite Maison des Vins. 



Sunflower Spring

Journey through the vineyards of Bordeaux before finding yourself at this stone villa on the bank of the Dordogne. The highlight of this stay for us is not only the view of the romantic river, but the direct access to it via a private dock or one of the included kayaks. If you do happen to tire of a lazy day by the river (or pool if you’d rather), explore the private gardens, scenic as a Monet painting, and pick at seasonal treats for your family or friends to snack on. Speaking of food, you can take the bikes out to the nearby boulangerie for croissants and tarts. We should also mention that the local farm’s goats cheese selection is sensational, especially when paired with wines from the neighbouring vineyards. 

River Days

If you’re always in the kitchen at parties, don’t worry – at Artichoke & Tomato, everyone else will be too. The large, informal table seats 14, and forms the centre of the fully equipped kitchen with pantry. If it gets too hot, grab a glass of Merlot and spill out into the adjoining courtyard or take a dip in the pool. While the adults gossip, little ones can take advantage of the tennis court, table tennis, table football and boules. If you need a top-up, the famous wine-producing region of Bordeaux is just over one hours’ drive away – just remember not to drink and drive!

Artichoke & Tomato

This quintessentially French chateau is simply breathtaking. It’s a twin tower house that could easily be mistaken for a fairy-tale castle at first glance, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding sunflower fields, which create a magical yellow carpet when they come out to bloom. You’ll also be amazed at the beautiful outdoor pool and pool house – both provide the perfect backdrop for summertime family fun. You’re sure to make many happy memories at this home, which boasts plenty of room for every guest to stretch out and relax.

Start each day with a refreshing dip in your outdoor pool while you watch the sun come up over the yellow fields. Enjoy lounging in the shaded area that offers views of the water, while you sip on a coffee and plan out the rest of your day. Cook up a French breakfast of boudin noir and scrambled eggs, and eat together around the majestic dining table. Head into the pool house to play ping pong, and pour some cocktails in the summer kitchen. 

If you want to venture out, Castillonnes is a short drive away, where you'll find a lively market, as well as lovely restaurants and sights to see. Or, just go on a walk around the gorgeous grounds – the sunflowers offer up some amazing photo opportunities. When the evening rolls in, pop the champagne and fire up the barbecue for a night of alfresco fun, or head into the drawing room to sit by the fireplace with a good book. 


Sunflower Fields Forever

It's not every day you find a place with two outdoor spaces in the heart of a city. This gem of a home is putting an end to the idea that being in the city centre automatically means forfeiting space. Here, location, style, comfort, and luxury have beautifully been combined to bring you a showstopper. 

There's a lot to love here, from the contemporary interior to the fantastic location, but the outdoor space takes the cake. There's something wonderful about waking up in the morning and stepping straight outside to feel the sun on your face, and here, you get that small but special treat from each bedroom. Invigorating fresh coffees in the sun are the perfect way to start the day. Whether you're on the rooftop terrace or the patio, you'll feel a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Bordeaux city centre, despite being close to all the action.

Exploring Bordeaux comes easy here. You're just a five-minute walk from the tram, which takes you all across the city. Or, you can take to the wine metropolis on foot – you're just 1.5km away from the historic centre. There, you can take a walk along the famous promenade which is lined by restaurants and bars, discover the city's museums, and spot some notable sights, like the 11th-century Bordeaux Cathedral. 

However you spend your day, you'll love coming home to your bright, welcoming home. Take the spiral stairs up to the rooftop terrace, armed with a bottle of local wine, to watch the sky envelop into hues of reds and oranges at dusk. When dinner rolls around, your kitchen is perfectly equipped for whipping up meals at home. But if you don't feel like cooking, there are several brilliant restaurants nearby, ready to welcome you.
