Known for its vital role in the French Revolution, Bastille and the surrounding neighbourhood has plenty to offer, even if you're not keen on history. From lively jazz bars and the Opéra Bastille to bohemian boutiques and Marché d'Aligre, this pocket of Paris has something for everyone. And it's where you'll find this stylish apartment, just a five-minute walk from the July Column, twenty from Notre Dame and surrounded by a slew of chic cafes, trendy wine bars and delicious eateries.

Come home after a long day and sprawl out on the sofa, nibbling on French cheese, fresh-baked bread and sharing a bottle of wine picked up from the market. We love the exposed brick in the kitchen, the skylights in the bathroom and the soft, modern furnishings. The style is minimal, the living space bright, and the bedroom super comfortable. This flat may be on the smaller side, but we think it'll do nicely for solo travellers and couples wanting to stay in the centre of the action.

Soak up the bohemian spirit of Paris in this cosy Marais apartment. Le Marais has more pre-revolutionary buildings left intact than any other area in Paris. It’s full of winding streets lined with boutiques, bakeries, and art galleries. There are countless eateries to choose from, but if you prefer to dine in, this apartment has a fully equipped kitchen. It’s a charming home-from-home – you can look forward to exposed stone walls and wooden beams combined with a designer sofa and a silk Persian rug. Two guests can sleep on the mezzanine level if they don’t mind the low ceiling – otherwise, the sofa bed is plenty comfortable.

This home is located in what Napoleon considered to be the jewel of Paris – Place des Vosges. It belongs to a painter and her influence is everywhere, with an impressive collection of art adorning the walls, unique pieces of furniture and even a sculpture or two. Maximalism is the order of the day here, but with such charming Parisian flair, we dare even the most dedicated minimalist not to fall in love with this home. It also delivers on the amenities front with plenty of space to socialise and air-conditioned bedrooms. The winding streets of Le Marais are right on your doorstep, leading you to art galleries, boutiques and plenty of bistros where you can stop and watch the world go by. And, if you want to see the city, there are three different Metro stations within a five minute walk from the apartment.

This chic apartment is nestled in the heart of Paris, just a few steps from the Place des Vosges. With Le Marais' trendy eateries nearby and easy transport links to the rest of the city, it makes a fantastic base for your adventures. We're big fans of the interiors, which merges contemporary design with classic character. The large French windows flood the living area with sunlight, making it feel bright and breezy. Though two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the TV room, we think you'll find it a comfortable, albeit fuss-free, place to call home.

This apartment, in the heart of the Marais, is bright, quiet and comfortable – it’s exactly what you need from a place that’s within easy reach of Paris’ central sights. You’ll notice a restrained approach to the interior design; a stylish Scandi dining set provides a modern contrast to the intricate moulding details, a hint of the home’s grand past. Make like a local and idly sip your morning espresso by the enormous windows or recline on the couch with a dog-eared paperback. Munch on croissants with fresh fig jam, put together in your tidy kitchen or seek out a local café for a traditional Parisian breakfast. Your neighbourhood is renowned for its romantic cobblestone streets bursting with boutiques and jewellers – weave through narrow thoroughfares to the Maison de Victor Hugo, a seven-minute walk away or people-watch in Place des Vosges, the city’s oldest square. Despite being in the heart of the 4th arrondissement, this home, nestled in a quiet courtyard, manages to stay serene. While only four minutes from the Bréguet-Sabin metro, arriving at this location feels like a secret garden, with lush foliage leading up to your front door. Inside, a generous living space is bathed in natural light from large French windows. And the innovative use of glass partitions for the kitchen and bedroom keep the layout modern and spacious, yet very stylish. With touches of both mid-century charm and industrial utilitarianism, the result is a fresh but cosy decor. Our favourite piece has to be the feature wall of quirky animal portraits (maybe your furry friend could join in?). Outside, if you’re looking for landmarks, you’ll be spoilt for choice between two exceptionally famous squares. The Place de la Bastille is a four-minute walk, and the Place des Vosges is six. The latter is also home to an important attraction for fans of French literature – the Maison de Victor Hugo. Less than 2km away, we recommend making the trendy Canal Saint-Martin your top spot for drinking and dining. Street food and waterside cocktails are definitely on the menu.

A chic hotel room down a calm street in the trendy district of Le Marais – this location is very hard to beat. The room itself has been stylishly furnished, we particularly enjoy the deep blue velvet banquette and walnut desk at the end of the bed. There's plenty of storage to unpack too which is a plus. The bathroom has been beautifully kitted out with all the luxuries of a hotel. Downstairs guests will find a lounge room with a bar to enjoy a drink or a coffee in. If you're planning a quick stop over in Paris, or just prefer hotels over houses then this is a great choice.

Once the residence of King Charles VI’s mistress Marie Touchet, this is a truly spectacular home from our Paris collection. Wake from your glamorous master bedroom and peer out over the Place des Vosges from your Juliet balcony. To stay in a historic Renaissance building in an elegant square in the heart of the Marais is a rare gift. Just under a twenty-minute walk from the Notre Dame and only fourteen minutes (on foot) from the Bastille, this location is not only affluent, but it's also right in the middle of the city. Back to the home, the hosts entrusted the refurbishment to the famous interior designer Jacques Grange, who has made the place into a real monument. Between the chandeliers, the antique furniture, and the beautifully preserved original structures, you’re unlikely to find a more luxurious apartment. Choose between a rustic and warming living room with 200-year-old ceiling beams, vintage rugs and quirky wallpaper prints or an opulent, pearly-white living room with grand wall mouldings and a glass-topped coffee table. Elsewhere, the bedrooms are a continuation of the sophistication and refinement found in the communal areas – all three bedrooms are accompanied by stunning en-suite bathrooms, two of which offer swanky bathtubs while the other is a marble-clad masterpiece. Indeed, this entire apartment is nothing short of a Monet masterpiece itself.

On a typically Parisian street in the Bastille neighbourhood, this apartment radiates ultra-modern cool. On your street, you’ve got classic French bistros with seating spilling out onto the pavement under awnings and chi chi little gallery shops. A two-minute stroll away are the café-lined banks of the Canal Saint-Martin and the Place de Bastille where myriad metro stations can whisk you to Notre Dame and The Louvre in less than ten minutes. 

Positioned on an internal courtyard, this apartment is a haven of calm in the city. Everything inside is crisp white and raw wood with fawn and stone touches. Pops of modern art liven up gallery-white walls and an exposed brick wall adds a bit of a warehouse-chic vibe. Our favourite spot has to be the private courtyard terrace, which is blissfully quiet and has alfresco dining set up if you wish.
