We love the mix of old and new in this charming country house on the outskirts of Mimizan. Travel south in France until you’ve nearly reached the border to Spain and that’s where you’ll find this little home located in the coastal commune of Anglet. With a reputation for Atlantic surfing beaches – there are eleven to be exact – this is where you want to retreat to for a properly beachy holiday. The home echoes its location with hues of white and blue, and a particular crispness that’s definitely helped along by yawning balcony doors and the breeze entering through it. 

The kitchen is great for prepping cheese platters, or a quick omelette, but we recommend venturing out to one of the cafes for a breakfast before hitting the beach. For a different kind of adventure, you might also find yourself on a hiking path, playing a round of golf, or kicking back as you wait for fish to bite when you’re out fishing. 

Although there is a casino and a number of night clubs for evening entertainment, we do recommend catching the sunset from the cosy balcony first. 

The Anglet Apartment

This modern holiday home is located on the sunny coast of France, straddling the Bay of Biscay. The open-air design and tall sliding doors lay bare the home to natural sunlight and forest scents. In this surfer's paradise, their tastes are well-catered for – you're far more likely to grab something healthy than anything with chips in the nearby eateries. We think the home is better suited to a family or firm friends, given any nighttime trips to the bathroom involve using the only bedroom's ensuite. And with free parking available, you're not only confined to the local beaches – drive to the forest at Landes, or the nearby city of Bordeaux.

Tucked away in the French countryside, this charming renovated farmhouse provides the ideal retreat for families or groups of friends who want a picturesque escape. While away the hours drinking the finest wines in the open-plan living space with its authentic exposed beams and tiled floors, or head outside and watch the sunset on the vine-draped terrace. 

In the mornings, we recommend grabbing some freshly-baked baguettes from the nearby bakery. In the afternoons, the extensive gardens make a great area for play for young and older alike, and the swimming pool is perfect for a quick nap in the sun. Further afield, you’ll want to visit the beaches at Hossegor, a cosmopolitan surfing hub with chic boutiques and markets.

This sleek apartment overlooks the beach, enjoying exceptional views of the Landes forest, the ocean and the Pyrenees. At full capacity, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area, so if you're planning on spending most of your time relaxing indoors as a group of four, space and storage might be a bit tight.
