With an advantageous hillside position giving way to panoramic views of Palombaggia Bay, this home is all about tranquillity. You'll find a private swimming pool and alfresco dining table all positioned towards the scenery. Personally, we like the little observation nook. Two chairs create the perfect opportunity for a romantic sunset moment. Though the interior doesn't quite hold a candle to the surroundings, it's still comfortable. There's also more than enough room for a family or group of friends. As for location, beach lovers can rejoice knowing they're only 800 meters from Palombaggia Beach.

Located in the middle of the Burgundy countryside, there's been a building on this site for around two centuries, something you might be able to tell from the wooden beams, flagstone flooring and thick stone walls. However, it's no longer a humble barn, but a luxurious French getaway.

In the intervening two hundred years, plenty has been added to aid in this transformation. Outside, the most notable change has been the building of a heated swimming pool in the middle of the lush grounds and even more recently — in 2021, in fact — a walled garden has been constructed holding over twenty types of herbs and soft fruits. If you time your visit just right, you might be able to pick cherries and grapes straight off the branch.

When the weather's being kind, there's everything from a boules court and swing to a barbecue on the terrace with outdoor speakers to enjoy. If, however, the clouds are ominously grey, you can keep yourselves occupied on the billiards table or home cinema setup instead.

The nearest village is only twenty-five minutes away on foot and offers all the charming bakeries, charcuteries and markets you could want. As well as that, the unspoilt Morvan Regional Nature Park that surrounds the address means the local area is perfect for long walks or cycle rides. If that sounds too tame, the Magny Cours circuit — a French Grand Prix venue — is only forty minutes' drive away.

When we’re visiting a home we like to feel transported to another time and place – one that is rich in beauty, personality and character. And this home located in the centre of Montpellier will take you on a journey to the heart of French style. 

It’s a simple and elegant space with a contemporary twist. This is the kind of home that goes beyond convention to give you a truly extraordinary stay. Whether you’re looking at the art, reading one of the books or simply gazing out of the traditional French doors, there’s an inspirational quality to this home. 

Begin your day in one of the nearby cafes and then walk through Place de la Comédie – only four–minutes away. The train station and tramways are a two–minute walk from this home, making it a great spot to connect with the rest of the city. 

French food lovers won’t want to miss Halles Laissac market – it’s only a minute's walk away and it offers a wonderful selection of regional delicacies. With your basket full, make your way home to put on some music, open the doors and share a beautiful meal in this special setting. 

The Blue Flowers

Tucked away in the Cote de Bourg area just north of Bordeaux, this fairytale 19th-century chartreuse overlooks beautiful vineyards and the rolling landscape beyond. The seclusion makes this a tranquil getaway – especially when swimming in the private pool or enjoying the ample seating outside – but with this being an active vineyard, it's also a unique way to experience the French countryside. The interior, all rustic rafters and palatial furnishings, might not be everyone's cup of tea, but there's plenty of space and charm here. It is worth noting that there are only three bathrooms to share between fourteen guests. The country house is bold and full of character, and the pool table is a nice touch too.

Comte de Montagny

This beautifully renovated sixteenth century farmhouse with sweeping grounds is perfectly suited to a large family or group. Children will love the play room and football goals in the garden, and a couple of the bedrooms are especially designed for kids. The heated salt-water swimming pool really makes this home stand out for us, as does the air-conditioned barn – available for an additional fee – complete with a range of fitness equipment and pool table. Be aware however, that four of the bedrooms and three of the bathrooms are in annexes separate from the main house.

Set amongst the gleaming piazzas and pastel-coloured houses of L'Île-Rousse, enjoy the Meditterean pace of life at this traditional Corsican Casa. Located bang in the centre of town, spend your morning sipping fresh coffee and pastries on the shaded terrace of a boulangerie, before hitting the white sands of the beach nearby. This lovely home has heaps of rustic charm, with exposed wooden-beams, giant windows and a terrace overlooking the rooftops of the town. With careful consideration for modern conveniences, it has everything a large group of multiple generations needs to enjoy a rejuvenating stay. Let the kids splash in the pool while you wait for a homemade breakfast. This home is set in the middle of a park with a private lake nestled between ancient trees. Spend days outdoors and head into the nearby Poitiers for the pain du jour. If you’re up for traveling a bit further afield, go on a wine tasting in the Loire Valley or take the whole family air-ballooning above the Charente River. Return home to a chef-made meal on the al fresco dining terrace. Rumour has it this house was built in the 19th century for a famous dressmaker.

Between the maritime pines and golden beaches of Les Landes, this modern one-storey home is the perfect pad for a small group of friends or a family of four. Wide glass doors slide open to fill the stylish living space with pine-scented air, and a smart matte-black kitchen is fully equipped to make self-catering a breeze. Days are spent surfing the Atlantic rollers and strolling along the golden sands of la Côte d’Argent, the longest stretch of sand in Europe. Head home to catch the early evening sun on the wraparound terrace, and light up the barbecue with fresh local produce from the market halls in town. For a change of scene, the bars, bistros and boutiques of Bordeaux are just over an hour’s drive away, or head south to explore the stunning Basque Country.

Dating back to the times of the Roman Empire, Porto-Vecchio is as picturesque and charming as any town in the Mediterranean. This gorgeous apartment sits in a renovated 19th-century building in the heart of the Old Town and offers stunning views in every direction. Inside, cool off from the midday heat in the air-conditioned living space while enjoying the natural light and views across the town. Our favourite bit is the expansive roof terrace, the ideal place to gather for soaking up the Corsican sunshine. The well-shaded dining area has its own barbecue so you can sit down to eat alfresco at lunchtime. There’s also a relaxing chill-out area, with wicker furniture and beanbags overlooking the Mediterranean sea below. If you can tear yourself away from your home's many little luxuries, you're only a fifteen-minute walk from a sandy beach and the charming marina filled with bobbing yachts, while just outside your door, the Old Town offers up restaurants, bars and plenty of cultural attractions including the impressive Église St-Jean-Baptiste.

When you want to venture out, you'll find plenty of places to explore right on your doorstep. There are 17 acres of shared parkland to enjoy a bike ride or a ramble. Check out the nearby Teraventure, a fantastic amusement park with rides and attractions that are great for little ones. Quirky & Quaint

With its timber exterior and chalet-esque shape, you could be forgiven for envisioning some rustic living quarters upon first glance of this home close to Arcachon Bay. However, step behind the glass doors and guests are greeted by a contemporary interior bathed in natural light and furnished with Scandi-style furnishings – not to mention a super-sleek kitchen designed with minimalism in mind.

However, this is a corner of France in which people try to pass as many hours as possible spent outside and you can do that on the home's verandah, complete with a lounge, barbecue and alfresco dining table, which overlooks the local forest. Alternatively, there's a swimming pool shared with other local residences on the site in which to splash about on warm afternoons, plus children's play equipment, a volleyball court and a bowling green.

And that's not forgetting the wealth of attractions that await in the nearby area. The Dune of Pilat – the tallest in Europe – can be reached on foot via a hiking route and there's also a great selection of beaches in the local region. Both the towns of Arcachon and La Teste-de-Buch have plenty of markets, restaurants and grand architecture to discover, too.

If we could give a home a pass based on location alone, this address would undoubtedly get one. Not only does it sit within the Verdon National Park and a five-minute drive from the truffle markets of Aups, but it has a prime view of the mountain peaks of Massif des Maures.

Thankfully, the villa has a lot more riding in its favour other than this wonderful position. For starters, it really spoils guests when it comes to outdoor space. As well as a pair of terraces from which to admire the scenery, there's a huge garden complete with a petanque court, playground and a fountain to enjoy. Best of all, there's a swimming pool that offers a refreshing spot in which to relax during baking hot afternoons.

Once a sheepfold in a former life, the home itself is imbued with rustic charm, filled as it is with wooden ceiling beams, terracotta tiles and handsome antique furnishings. The main bathroom was once an old pigeon house – not something you get to write all that often – but today it's the very vision of relaxation with its cast iron bathtub.

Walk from Saint Cerice Chapel, a Roman church built into the rock and overlooking the village, along a footbath to the Château before heading down to the riverside beach to sunbathe and swim. Alternatively, hire canoes or get on your bike and set off on the Via Ardèche, a straight 25 km cycle path from Vogüé to Grospierres. History fans can take their pick from several medieval towns and villages nearby, including Foix, which is a twenty-minute drive away. And, if you want to practice your golf swing, then the nearest course is just five minutes away by car.
